Thread: Re: What clear finish for painted figures?

This is an odd thing to announce, but there is a MAGNIFICENT spray called Mr. Super Clear, which is NOT sticky, DOES NOT alter the color, and works amazingly for models, miniatures and such. Problem is, it's only found in Japan for now. Can be ordered from Hobby Link Japan.

I've tried using GW Satin which has a blue tint to it, and Testors Dulcote, which has a yellow tint to it. But other than that, I'm sure someone has a better suggestion. :D

Thread: Re: What clear finish for painted figures?

I use a matte varnish finish that I found at Michael's. It comes in one of those small tubes similar to the ones that acrylic paints come in. I have used it for all my Descent miniatures so far and it works great. I brush it on though, not spray. Last time I used a spray-on varnish it looked horrible for some reason. :(

Thread: What clear finish for painted figures?

Hello all,

After painting playing pieces, I normally spray on a matte finish by Kryon to protect the paint job. I've noticed that soft plastic pieces (such as these and those found in the DOOM boardgame) end up very sticky to the touch thereafter.:yuk:

What is everyone else using that prevents this issue?

Thanks!

Thread: Re: Replacement Boards

The current plan is to have these extra sets of boards be available through our webstore (one set per customer) at a very low cost, just to cover the printing and shipping.

Great news! I hope you will extend the order to two per customer. I purchased one set for my Nephew & he doesn't have the means to order/pay for a replacement set.

These should be arriving with the next shipment of LNOE, sometime in August. The current plan is to have these extra sets of boards be available through our webstore (one set per customer) at a very low cost, just to cover the printing and shipping.

I should have a more exact idea of the timeframe in a few weeks.

- Jason

Jason C. Hill
Flying Frog Productions

Free is kinda better, since I will have to pay shipping on top of purchase cost. With oil at $140 that won't be cheap and I'd consider just not buying anything.

puck71 wrote:
I think all that's been said officially is that they'll look into it, and that was quite awhile ago. However, it sounded like they (Flying Frog) like the lighter boards better so if they do replace boards they might send you light base boards, not dark expansion boards. That's just speculation on my part, but if the lighter boards are now the standard, as it sounds, it follows that future expansions would use the light boards, so for everything to match you'd need light base boards.

This would solve the problem so yeah, FFG, do this and you'll get my $50 for the expansion.

coolpapa wrote:
But at the same time, they went with printing the expansion in a way that would match what they're currently selling. Now, does it stink that the early adopters, the customers most valuable to them, are getting the shaft here? Yes. But I think they just had to do something - someone was going to be unhappy with this situation one way or another.

That said, I think a little more openness from them on this issue in advance would have prevented some of these hard feelings.

They're a young company, and I hope they learn from this and continue to put out more great games in the future. I'm really looking forward to Touch of Evil as well.

I agree with the earlier poster, this print error became reality, they should have sucked it up and standardized their product lines. I have been penalized for my early adoption, which in part made their later printings possible.

Elstree wrote:

My understanding is that this was not a "design choice". Somewhere they mentioned that the proofs they approved for the first printing of LNOE were the lighter color (like GH). You can see this in a photo of the prototype from GAMA last year. Apparently the printer in China screwed up the first printing of LNOE and printed it too dark.

Blame China! (it's the new Canada).
Different color boards are a dealbreaker for me. If you print cheaply in China then it's up to you to fix any problems or make sure you are seeing a real prototype before the full run, or getting a reprint from the supplier. I too will wait for 2nd printing.
