Copyright law varies from nation to nation, but unless the copyright owner has released the rights to the public domain or re-releases it under Creative Commons, then in the United States it would certainly not be legal.

I have seen many people, especially on the electronic side of the hobby, treat long unavailable products as "abandon-ware". This is often morally acceptable to many, and the copyright holders rarely bother to legally enforce their rights in such situations, but it is rarely legal.

Hi all,

I tried finding this games for a long time now, but it is really hard to get (or very very expensive!!). So, I wondered: As this game is very old, alomost 25 years, would it be legal to upload (or download) the files and do a print and play version of the game? Or does such a version already exist?

Wow... I've had the Contest version of this supplement for 20 years, and never played through it, because I could never get access to the answers.

I've copied and printed the answers now (Thanks!!!) and I'll be putting them in a separate envelope (no... I didn't read them!). Once I play through, and think I have the solutions, I'll finally look at the solutions!

I have a copy of the Queen's Park Affair [Vol.3 of Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective] that has never been opened and is still encased in plastic. I am sure it contains the Queen's Park Map which I would be willing to scan it as best as I can and send to you if you give me your email address. However, perhaps you can help me too. The version of the game I have is the one that came out during the 'Reward' period. Therefore, it does not contain a 'Solution.' Perhaps you could send me the Solution [which I promise not to read until after I have tried to work it out for myself. In my view, without having the ability to check a proposed solution against something, my game, although playable, might not warrant the same effort without the Solution that undoubtedly came with what you have.

I've only ever seen the boxed versions; never an envelope version. In fact, I've never seen "Mansion Murders" in another version; only this contest version of Queen's Park vs. the version sold after the contest closed -- in a light green box. Sorry.

The first post in this forum discusses the various versions of this supplement, and whether it was a stand alone game or not. My question is a bit different: I know that the Mansion Murders (the first expansion) was available in an envelope from Sleuth as well as the later boxed version by both Sleuth and Chessex. Does anyone know if this is also true in this case?

Does anyone have the solution to this module? I bought a copy off of ebay but it's the older edition where the solution is not included. I didn't know until I opened the box that it was a contest -- later I found out that the first edition was the contest and then, after the contest was closed -- you could buy the solution or the new ones put out had the solution.

I've got a copy but I'd have to get someone else to type the solution as because despite having had it for 20 years I've still not played it and don't want to see the answer. Interestingly there is no edition information on the box.

I have the first edition of the "Queen's Park Affair" to the Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective game. In the first edition, this supplement was to be a contest in which you sent your solution to Sleuth Publications. After the contest was over you could send for the solution. Does anyone have the solution from the editions later published? I'd be interested in obtaining the solution. Thanks.

Sigh, and how does that proves that it wasn't released as a stand-alone? As I said I have the game... My version has no text on the back but had a paper inset in the shrink-wrap. I'm uploading a picture of it. My copy is by Sleuth Publications, Stock No. 1030, ISBN 0-915341-05-0 as you also can see in the picture - and of course note the "Complete Game" text.

I managed to acquire a copy of the "supplement only" Queen's Park Affair. The back of the box lists the components as:

* Clue Book
* Clue Packet
* Newspaper Clippings
* Map of Queen's Park

It also states:

"Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective is needed to play this supplement."

I'll be uploading a photo momentarily.

Nope, my copy is not a Chessex copy - it's the original one from Sleuth Publications and the box looks like the picture on this site.

It sounds as though Chessex may have reprinted the expansions and included all materials necessary to play. I have not been able to actually confirm this though. Unfortunately, I can't confirm the existence of the "expansion only" version either (other than my own experience). I don't have a copy at present and all the photos I have show only the contents, not the box itself.

Dug up my copy and the game is a complete game and the rules included are complete. The box also includes the Map of London and the Telephone directory that apparently every copy you have seen have been missing (unless those actually was Adventures by Gaslight which wasn't standalone).

As with Mansion Murders, I recently had a shrinkwrapped copy of this game that I have since sold. It stated on the back that it was a complete, stand-alone game and the contents listing matched what is given in the BGG listing.

The above summary indicates that The Queen's Park Affair is a stand alone product. I do not know for sure if it was ever released as such but I can confirm that every copy I have seen has been strictly an expansion. That is, it technically requires the original game, Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective, in order to play.

Obviously the contents listed above do not agree with what is in the expansion which is as follows:

- Case & Clue book
- Envelope (containing various miscellaneous items)
- 17" x 22" map of Queen's Park
- Time pad
- Newspaper archive
- Rules sheet
- Solution sheet
