According to Michał Oracz, next player decides about that.

Thread: Mad Bomber Image - beta version & fan made

Some time ago I have uploaded an image of Mad Bomber beta version - http://www.boardgamegeek.com/image/303442.

But both versions of Mad Bomber Tile are made for first edition, so I made another one - for second edition. It can be found at http://www.boardgamegeek.com/image/309902. Hope You like it.

Great review Russ. Haven't had a chance to play with it yet but sounds like fun.

Just a heads up, Ignacy at Portal gave me permission to post a version for print&play. It's in the files section. I actually cleaned up your nice scan of the unit.

Thread: Mad Bomber: a one-tile NH supplement

The Mad Bomber is a single tile supplement for Neuroshima Hex! I received mine during the game convention Pionek in Gliwice, Poland 2007-12-08. I am not sure how easily it is available by other channels, but since it consists of only one extra unit, it would be easy to experiment with a homemade version.

RULE SUMMARY:

The Mad Bomber is a single unit who belongs to no player nor army. He starts the game on the center of the map. If he receives any damage during a battle, he immediately explodes in the same phase, causing a point of damage to units in all 6 neighboring hexes (except headquarters). (Like the red Moloch army's Bomb.)

He then will be drawn as the first tile by the next player in turn order after the one who caused the Mad Bomber to be hit, and that player can deploy him on the map again. (I.e. the player will have the Mad Bomber as well as 2 of their own army tiles to use.) If that player doesn't use him as one of his 3 actions, then the Mad Bomber passes on to the following player to use.

If more than one player hits him in the same initiative phase of the battle, then he is knocked out of the game.

There is a rule ambiguity about pushing the Mad Bomber (since the owner of the pushed unit decides where it is pushed, but nobody owns the Mad Bomber). (This is a general problem with games like this, with lots of diverse rules subsystems and expansions interacting in unforeseen ways violating assumptions of earlier rules. E.g. Magic: The Gathering...) Until I learn otherwise, we suppose that the pushing player decides where to push the Mad Bomber. (It might be reasonable to say the opponent decides in a 2-player game, but it's less clear then in a multiplayer game. Should the next player decide? Should all the opponents vote?)

EFFECT ON GAMEPLAY:

The Mad Bomber is an amusing addition to Neuroshima Hex! The idea of a non-player unit is interesting. Although the Mad Bomber is superficially similar in effect to the red Moloch army's Bomb, the Mad Bomber introduces new tactical possibilities due to being continually usable by everyone, and also because (unlike the Bomb) it can be placed on outer hexes of the map.

It can be very powerful to drop the bomber into the middle of a mass of enemy units if one of them is poised to attack the Mad Bomber's hex. (And very funny when the opponent realizes that their own unit's attack will cause the Mad Bomber to explode and kill many of their units!) Sometimes it is quite reasonable to place one of your own units next to the Mad Bomber to attack him, sacrificing your own unit to take out enemy units.

If there are very few units on the map, then the Mad Bomber is typically less important. Then it can be useful to shoot him just to force him into the other player's hand next turn, depriving him of one of his 3 tiles from his own army.

Having played about 5 times now with this unit, I have observed that (like most NH units) it can sometimes have a decisive impact on the game and sometimes be inconsequential. So it is neither too powerful nor too weak, and seems to fit in reasonably well in that sense, but it can definitely change the flavor of the game, as one must often step carefully around the Mad Bomber... It is a fun change of pace.

Thread: Pushing the Mad Bomber - who decides where he goes?

According to the rules for pushing, the owner of the pushed unit decides where the pushed unit goes if there is more than one possible destination hex.

According to the rules for the Mad Bomber, he can be pushed.

But the Mad Bomber belongs to no player.

So who decides where the Mad Bomber is pushed to if there is more than one possible destination hex?
