Thread: Can anyone help me with the rules?

I found a copy of this game that appears to be complete with all clips and the Patent Machine and everything...except for the rules! I didn't even think to look for those when I got it. I assumed that like most Parker Brothers games they would have printed the rules on the inside of the box lid.

If anyone has a copy of the rules that you can scan into a file and post it here or contact me to make arrangements, it would be much appreciated!

Thank you!

Jeff Ritter

This is the very first game that I saw in a thrift store that I passed on, which soon after started my interest in collecting board games from my teenage years. The game was missing the dice, and I thought they needed to be specific to the game to fit the dice 'tower'-how silly I was to pass on it!! I've been looking for a copy ever since..
Anyway, has anyone else noticed that the hand that points up, to the chute the dice go in, has 6 fingers?!? Intentional by the designers or just an oversight? Things that make you go hmm..
Thread: Re: Parts inventory?

Hello all...

I just picked up a rather used copy of The Inventors at a garage sale and I'm trying to determine what is all mising from the game. From the content listing that has been posted above I know I am missing 2 "Eureka" cards. I'm just curious as to which ones they are. I have:
Advance to next Corner x9
Patent Protection x2
Silent Partner x3
Eliminate SP x2
Cancel 1 Uh-Oh x2
Collect 1 Patent Claim x6
Collect a "A" invention x2
Collect a "B" invention x1
Collect a "C" invention x3

I'm assuming that I'm missing at least 1 Collect a "B" card. But I dont know what else..

The other part that is missing is rather vital, that's the instruction manual. Hence, I havent got a clue how to play the game. So I was wondering if any one knew where I could get a copy of the rules, either for purchase or a photocopy or online...

thanx in advance!

Jon

Edit: I discovered a complete list of game parts elsewhere online and discovered that I'm missing 1 Collect a "B" invention card, and 1 Collect 1 Patent Claim card. I'm sure we can do without them. However, I still need a set of the rules. If anyone would be able to email a scanned copy or fax it or something like that, please Geekmail me. Thanx!

You seem to be missing:

* Parachute Hat (A)
* Air Conditioned Rocking Chair (B)

The latter invention seems like a good way to burn calories, and create some wind. I'm surprised that it didn't take off.

I only about 16 Patent Claim clips, unfortunately. Would somebody be kind enough to find out how many there are of each kind?

I'd like to point out that the Incredible Patent Picker MoveMaker Machine comes in 2 parts. It's probably kind of obvious by looking at the photos, but when I bought the game today, it was supposed to be unplayed, yet it had only the top part. Fortunately, it fits alright by sitting in a tray in the box.

Thread: User Review

The Inventors is a fun, short variant on Monopoly-style roll-and-move games. Though it was first released in the early 1970's, The Inventors' nostalgic theme, inventors from an earlier era compete to design the "next big thing", keeps the game from seeming dated.

In this game, players compete by buying wacky inventions, based on real-life contraptions, and profiting off of their public offering. The mechanics are simple and intuitive. The board consists of two tracks. The outer track is similar to the Monopoly board, with spaces that allow players to buy a certain invention or an invention from a certain class, and also force players that land on them after they are purchased to pay a penalty to the owner, as in Monopoly. Luckily, that is where the Monopoly similarity ends. The Inventors also has an inner track, known as the Royalty Track. When a player enters this track, her or she can designate either one invention or one class of invention that he or she owns for public offering. After rolling the dice to find out what multiplier is landed on, the player consults the chart on the inventions to see how much money is made with the public offering. The invention is then returned to the bank where it can be purchased again by another player--or the same player.

Some take-that style of game play exists withing the basic structure as players can use Eureka cards to force their way into a partnership on an invention when it goes through the royalty process. Another Eureka card cancels such partnerships. This, like the dice rolling, introduces a large element of luck, so no deep thinking is required here.

The centerpiece, literally, of The Inventors is The Incredible Patent Picker Move Maker Machine, a cool plastic dice tower that also allows patent clips to be clipped onto the invention cards. The dice tower works well and the clip distribution is pure genious. This is easily my favorite 70's board game gadget, narrowly beating out the Monopoly computer that a friend had that I was never able to find.

The Inventors is not a great game, but it is a fun family game with a cool gadget and an amusing theme. Any collector interested in American family games needs this one in their collection.

Score: 6/10
