Thread: Re: Fallschirmjaeger Reprint by MMP

Emailed MMP about this issue i.e. you're publishing variants with no copies of the game available. Got a quick response stating it will be reprinted in '09 after their current crop in the pipeline is caught up.

I've come across several copies over the years from local sources but the $100 I can get for them on Ebay forces me to sell (so I can buy multiple other games I want!) It will be nice to pay $20-$30 for one again.
Thread: Re: Fallschirmjaeger Reprint by MMP

MMP's business model seems a bit lacking to me.

Why publish articles on games they no longer sell?

I've read several articles on Fallschrimjaeger and now have the extra counters provided in the operations special issue, but I can't buy the game.

I can buy it second hand but that doesn't help MMP's profits.

By the time a reprint is done my interest may have waned and thus MMP will lose custom.

Come on MMP, the articles you print in operations will drum up interest and make people want to play, and thus buy, the games; your costing yourselves business by not having these games available to sell.

Baska wrote:
I've asked it today too and this was (unfortunately) the answer...
Well, I don't think LuAnn would really be the person to ask about reprints until they're officially in the pipeline (i.e. in the P# system or close to it). As I mentioned above, I think that Dean and Brian are definitely considering a reprint of this, but that it's still too far off for it to be officially "in the works".

That's just my take on things from the way I've seen MMP operate in the past, but I certainly don't have an special knowledge here. It's hard for us to know what's in the collective mind of MMP until something actually shows up for preorder.

Thread: Fallschirmjaeger on an auspicious day

Bill and I had prearranged to play this one at Unicon IV. While Bill did the setup, I briefed other players on Here I Stand and then we had a whack at it. Unfortunately we had to break after turn 6 as Bill had a previous engagement, but we did get a good feel for it. I played the Dutch and Bill played the Deutsch.

First of all, a sidebar. January 19, the day of Unicon IV, is the birthday of Princess Margriet of the Netherlands who was born in 1943 a few kilometres from where I sit, at the Ottawa Civic Hospital (a portion of which had been made Dutch territory for the occasion) during the Royal Family's exile here. This partly explains the close relationship between Canada and the Netherlands, and Princess Margriet has taken an interest in Canada and particularly in the situation affecting Canadians veterans who served in WWII. Her residence is situated in Apeldoorn, also the site of the final resting place of the dead from the Royal Canadian Regiment who fought in the liberation of Holland. The Dutch Royal Family's one time gift to the city of Ottawa of 100,000 tulip bulbs and subsequently 20,000 every year for 50 years was a grateful thank you for the welcome they felt while living here.

The game started with the German hordes coming in by air over Holland. Luckily for me, my AA units scored some great hits and forced some planes to abort and the subsequent phase caused a crash over Walhaaven airport (30.24) and the loss of many planes.

Dutch resistance to the invasion was determined but also we did not go out of our way to engage the enemy except with barrages and AA. Two good Dutch air phases resulted in some significant groups being DG.

The bulk of the ground fighting occurred in Rotterdam, on the west side of the Maas (between Kralingen and Hillegersberg) and the bridges on the far left of the map. The Dutch troops were able to clear those areas by the end of turn 6, aided by German forgetfullness re supply.

Two supply drops (out of 4) were eliminated by the end of turn 4 which made the German subsequent turn (night) difficult. Drops of two of the big Mothers (10-25) of all supply units (the german had only 31 planes left at the beginning of turn 6) were met with accurate AA and both were eliminated before they could resupply troops.

With the eastern road access cut off until a large land contigent came up, the Germans were about to be cut to pieces by hordes of angry Dutch bicycle troops swarming suddenly on the map. Dutch troops were also moving up between Rotterdam and Den Haag in an attempt to achieve a significant cutoff of all supply on at least the Den Haag group. As it was, the Germans had to huddle in a 5 hex area around their one supply unit or risk a gouda trashing :-)

As a tribute to the princess, I evacuated Queen Wilhelmina from the Fishing Harbour on turn 6 even though it cost me 1 VP. I had already removed the gold and I could afford it. I had over 25 VPs by then. Bill had maybe 15 points (2 airports and a bridge in Rotterdam). I had almost no AA left (mostly ships) and he had barely 30 planes left which was significantly less than half his starting number . If he was going to spent 20 of them to resupply his units every time, and I could keep shooting them down, it was going to be a cakewalk.

Of course, as von Moltke (or von Clausewitz) said: Kein Plan überlebt den Kontakt mit dem Feind. And how true that is even to this day.

I rolled quite good results overall and the German was not on a winning streak, so at the end of turn 6 it looked good for the Dutch.

I don't deny that Fallschirmjaeger will get reprinted. After all, I recently acquired a copy, whcih usually guarantees a game is about to be reprinted. (Have to learn to wait just a bit longer, but sometimes the price is hard to beat.)

I was just a bit skeptical about the timing....

Brian Youse was actually kind enough to reply to a geeklist I did recently about MMP games where I had mentioned hoping that a reprint for Fallschirmjaeger would be coming soon. He said...

"We get asked for a reprint of this more than any other Gamers title, now that we've reprinted DAK, so this will probably be put on P# around the same time we put Guderian's Blitzkrieg up for preorder.

We're not thrilled with having a lot of reprints up, but I think this one may have a good chance of hitting its number and getting done. We'd also like to do (eventually) Omaha and probably Drive on Paris."

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/item/485665#item485665

I would take that with a grain of salt. Thoughthammer is also listing:

Yanks (Sep 2007)

and a few other titles (eg):

For King and Country
Monty's Gamble: Market Garden

that aren't even on MMPs pre-order page right now. As well as a bunch of pre-order titles with 2007 dates which are not likely to get published in 2007.

Brian Youse has posted on CSW about pre-order updates later this week - so will wait for further confirmations.
