Bankler wrote:
2) The claim for "Put X on a building next to a start building, where X == level." If you put $3 on a building, it's wasted because there are no more levels to be built, right?

X doesn't equal the height of the building; from page 5, X = "the value of one level of your Building next to your Start Building." (Emphasis added.) So if I initially built a building worth 5 next to my Start building and this is the claim, I get to place $5 on that building; if that building is worth 2, I can place $2 on that building.

As I understand the card, if I have built a second floor on this building, then I can choose either the value of the first or second level when using this claim.

Eric
Editor, http://www.BoardgameNews.com

Thread: Red Hotel Misprint

Is the Red Hotel supposed to be a diamond or a heart? The building and the summary (on the start building) disagree. (My guess is diamond).

Is there any other place where we can read about how the game plays, rules, length, complexity, etc?

Thanks

Thread: Re: A few rules Qs

Brian,

1. Both claims pay out to each person and the end of Investment Phase 2

2. If you put x on a building that has been improved to the 3rd story, the money is useless. In any other situation, the money is there to make the improvement cheaper.

3. The idea of the Investment phase is: you deal out players plus one cards. Each player will receive one of the cards and one of them will be the claim. The person who staked the claim will receive the remaining card--in other words, they gave up their choice of cards for their hand in order to choose which card becomes the claim.

You will begin each Investment phase 1 with 6 cards in hand. You will begin Build phase 1 with 8 cards in hand.

I hope this helps,

Alan

The purpose of putting money on a building is to make it cheaper to build another story.

Yeah, I mean, the card seems clear enough but it just seems ... off. I'd never take the building if it were level one (why get $1 on a building when I can get $1 for any building), and level 3 is worthless, so that means it only affects 2nd level buildings. OTOH, that may mean that it makes a good play to limit the cash into the game (which may extend the game if people start pitching expansions to get cash).

1) Right.

2) I think so. The purpose of putting money on a building is to make it cheaper to build another story.

3) Everyone gets one card, so yes it's Player 2. By picking a claim, you consign yourself to the last choice of cards.

Thread: A few rules Qs

1) Both claims pay out at the end of Investment Phase 2, right?

2) The claim for "Put X on a building next to a start building, where X == level." If you put $3 on a building, it's wasted because there are no more levels to be built, right?

3) In the investment phase, does everyone get a card, or is it just around the table? For example, with 3 players.
Player 1 -- Take Card
Player 2 -- Pick Claim (Player 3 is the new start player)
Player 3 -- Take a card.
Does player #1 get the last card, or does player #2? I think it's number two, but I'm not positive.

Thread: Available at Boards & Bits

I see where this is available at B&B. I enjoy a western theme, but there doesn't seem to be much information available for this yet. There seems to be an earlier game Dry Gulch (1999) that is twice as expensive and for more players with a lowish 5.7 rating.
