I feel your pain. I'm looking forward to this one as well. Could be lots of fun. There was a preview written after GenCon by a guy who played the prototype. He also played a prototype of Strozzi which has just been released so hopefully Ra isn't far behind.

This game's existence was announced an epoch ago, yet there still isn't even a photograph of it in prototype form, and scarcely anything has been written about it. Is this all because Jay Tummelson and Reiner Knizia are keeping a tight lid on it, or have people played it at Essen and/or BGG.CON and just not said anything about it yet? C'mon. My thirst for details burns like the desert sun!

I was lucky enough to chat with Dr. Knizia at Origins and he hinted it would be at Essen.

I got to play a prototype at Gencon 07, so it may have changed dramatically. At that time, there was a common board where the results of your roll were recorded by placing cubes. (Shocking, wooden cubes in a Eurogame about dice.) No idea if that will be final form, but it worked well. Player interaction was limited to racing for particular monuments (says my hazy memory).

In the form that I saw, it would be more portable than the original, but still takes up a bit of space.

As I recall, the BGG user who posted the prototype review (which is now gone) made no mention of individual player score sheets or anything of that nature...I think there was more player interaction than that.

Mind you, I don't blame Rio Grande for requesting the review's removal, since it dealt with a game that was still in development.

I concur with Jay's decision there. Anytime a game publisher shows a far ahead estimated date, what it really means is that "it will take more time than this" and then people get all bent out of shape when it doesn't come at said time.

I discovered the Original Ra Game a couple of month back and I am in LOVE!!! I really would like to know if anybody has any info on this game i.e. release date, or just how this game works. Is it similar to the original, do you have a score sheet to track your rolls each epoch? I just think this could work especially well for a portable version of RA.

I don't think you can assume that at all. Rather, after all the whining about Race For The Galaxy:Gathering Storm, Jay has literally been forced to stop announcing release dates until he is absolutely sure a game's going to be ready with no delays or mishaps.

Note the following two quotes from the RGG website.

Recently, we have received comments regarding several missing schedules for new games. We had tried to accomodate people who wanted advance schedules. As we have found this to not work, we will no longer offer release dates until we have scheduled the print of the game. This means there will be less than 3 months lead time on release dates for our games, but no more long waits for games that are not done on time.

We are working on several other games, but have no scheduled print dates. Thus, in keeping with out new policy, we are not going to mention them now.

Note that this is just text I found, I don't know any more than that.

I think on the RGG website they're saying July.... I know it'll be sometime this summer. The game mechanics are all done, they're just finishing the artwork, etc I think.

This is also being produced SOLELY by Rio Grande, so no dual licensing. It's Jay and Reiner

That explains why there's been practically no information about it anywhere since it was first mentioned, months ago. Seems kind of obvious, now, but that's not how Rio Grande usually operates.

I have RA, and I will absolutely buy it. It's RA you can play with people who aren't into the deeper tile collecting elements.

I think it would work well as a 2p game, that's one of the things I'm looking forward to. As in the normal RA the spot you start Ra on is closer to the end, so the rounds are shorter. A definite buy for me!

Four of us got to play this at GenCon last year. I'm typically not a big Knizia fan and I haven't played Ra, but I absolutely loved this.
