Thread: P A N A M A ! Canal Rules addition by James Frediani

This is taken in whole from Page 21 of "Battlefield #15" as attributed to James Frediani.

P A N A M A !

The one most obvious omission in SPI's INVASION AMERICA is a rule covering the usage of the Panama Canal by the South American Union (SAU). It should be assumed that the United States would have the presence of mind to render it impassable for the duration. Such an action also has the possibility of going wrong.

After the capture of he Panama Canal by the SAU, the SAU player rolls one die. This will indicate how many turns must pass before the Canal is useable. This roll is modified if the Canal was defended or not. If there is no defense, cut the die roll results in half (1,2=1 turn, 3,4=2 turns, 5,6=3 turns). If the results of a combat action to capture the Canal is a DR, or if it was defended by a 0 strength Militia unit, use the result of the die roll. If the result is a DE, add 50% to the die roll (1=2, 2=3, 3=5, 4=6, 5=8, 6=9). If the result is an EX, than double the die score results. In any case, if the SAU player does NOT advance across the Canal, even if there is no opposition or if all defending units are eliminated, the Canal is NOT considered captured. A land unit must pass through it to capture it.

Once repaired, the SAU suffers no delay in transferring troops by sea from the Atlantic to the Pacific. Never, even if captured, can the Canal be used by non-SAU units. There is no reason, other than hostile to the SAU, that non-SAU players have for crossing through the Canal, and it prevents a slightly unrealistic employment of the Canal by non-SAU units in the 2-3 player scenarios.
Thread: Re: Designer Version of Invasion: America - What's Different?

The designer's edition has an actual game BOARD, that's the major change. The board is in many sections, but it is very sturdy.

And the box is a nice smaller size that fits on the booshelf, so you don't have the plastic shell get crushed. There are no other changes I know of, it has the same rules, with all the errors (the victory point requirements in the scenerios are the most noteworthy.)

Thread: Designer Version of Invasion: America - What's Different?

What exactly is different about the Designer's Version of "Invasion: America" than the standard one?

Is the board/map hard back mounted instead of folded paper? I thought someone mentioned that somewhere but the maps are pretty big. Is this true?

Are there any other differences between the versions (rules, pieces, etc.)?

The "Counter manifest" file has 2 errors:

- There is only 1 blank CAN (light blue) counter not 2. Total CAN Counters = 40 not 41.

- There are 4 ESC (dark blue) "S (6)" counters not 3. Total ESC Counters = 90 not 89.

You can see scans of the "tried" side of the 2 counter sheets here:

http://www.thewargamer.com/Scans/InvasionAmerica1.jpg

http://www.thewargamer.com/Scans/InvasionAmerica2.jpg

I just used the manifest and these scans to count my pieces.
