1. I assume because it is meant as a trial run. If this card was an environment, it could potentially be stuck in place for a very long time making the game easier.

2. I don't think every Mythos card is themed to each respective expansion. It could have easily gone in any of the expansions.

The effect is quite straightforward, and the purpose to include this card in the The Black Goat of the Woods Expansion is also pretty obvious -- i.e. to let the investigators avoiding those moving Dark Youngs in the streets.
But I still have these questions:
1. Why a Headline instead of Environment (Urban)?
2. Is it thematic to add this Mythos to Black Goat Story, or just for Hexagon monsters avoidance?

When we drew this card (which I also agree is pretty straight forward) there were 4 flyers in the sky! As you can guess, that was a pretty tough time to launch a cab service

It is rather simple, imo. During movement, you may move to any street area as your entire movement. In otherwords, you "teleport" to any street area of your choosing as if you had the patrol Wagon (it is taxi cabs after all). If you choose to do this, then you don't get any other movement points (i.e., you can't read tomes or move to a location afterwards).

You can do this for exactly one turn. Headlines stay in effect until the next Mythos card is drawn. But you only need to keep it handy until Phase 2 is complete.

Not sure I've come across this one yet. WAY too lazy to check now, should I grab a game later today and remember to check, will do.

First thought is that they forgot "leave this card in play until next turn" or something, similar to a few of the headlines that stick around, there is one that prevents all investigators from being arrested that I recall.

This Mythos card is really hard to figure out. Here's the text of the headline:

"All investigators in Arkham may move directly to any street location [sic] in Arkham as their entire move (ignoring all monsters between their current location and their destination.)"

And that's a headline.

So, how do you interpret that mess, if it's a headline?

When the symbol AND color match the Mythoc card that is drawn in Phase 5, the ability below the symbol takes effect. So if both copies of the same card is out, only one will every be activated at a time.

I seperated my expansions yesterday. It took me 20' (I did not seperate the monsters tokens though). I think it was worthwhile since now the game will be light enough for 2 player - 2 character games. Just imagine 2 characters against 3 boards!!!!!

I still remain without a loss in 5-games with the Black Goat Herald, last game vs Glaaki was a nail-biter though, coming down to the very last die roll of the game . Actually, without Gloria casting Call Ancient One and getting 3 tokens off Glaaki, it would've ended in defeat. Stupid Gug dealing Wilson and Bob Broken Hands on the 2nd last turn .

There should be no interaction between this card and Injury/Madness. Injury/Madness is tied to loosing Stamina/Sanity and a side-effect is preventing half your items being discarded.

The Corruption card is directly related to the items you possess and by-passes Sanity/Stamina loses and so by-passes Injury/Madness as well.

However, if you go insane/ or are knocked unconscious, you could use Jealous guardian to keep your things without taking the Injury/Madness card.

I played two games with the Black Goat expansion. I think it's FFG's best effort yet. In the first game, one of the investigator's ended up with 9 corruption cards and had 11 all together. The monster surge's did us in.

In the second game, one of the players had three investigators devoured in midgame, though none of it was really the fault of the Dark Goat. It was Yog-Sothoth's fault. They were lost in time and space.

All together the investigators removed or were corrupted by 14 out of the 16 corruption cards. We barely won that game with 4 monster surges adding doom tokens. The extra 3 toughness hex monsters makes the game very rough and we had a bunch of very mean monsters threatening us throughout the game.

One of the corruption cards says something like the First player must make an investigator into a cult member or if all refuse remove one corruption card from the deck. By that time all of the investigators were already cult members. I don't have the card in front of me, but it seems that everyone had to refuse to burn the top card. Nobody refused but probably cult members can't take two cards. We burned the top card.

Another question had to do with the Jealous Guardian corruption. You can't lose items unless you choose to but if the symbol comes up, the player must lose half of his items. We were a little confused on how that interacted with Injury and Madness in terms of giving up half of your items.

What you're thinking was Scenario 3, and the ruling was that every monster, even yellow ones, would move toward the Black Cave instead of doing their normal movement. Special movement monsters and stalkers would move like they normally would after moving towards the Cave.

The problem here is the wording on the Dark Druid. It could either mean that everything--even yellow monsters--move one space, following the black arrow; or it could mean that every monster moves as though its movement symbol came up in black. In that case, yellow monsters wouldn't move, green ones would do something special, etc.

I got the same notice. I don't know why they couldn't just send me the copy that was "in stock" in the games section, but whatever.

I canceled my order and ordered the expansion from www.thoughthammer.com, along with some animeeples for Agricola. I wanted to get some, but I couldn't think of an excuse to justify the 8.00 flat rate shipping

You should never pre-order something that you must have by a certain date. That's almost a guarantee for disaster, especially with board games.

That being said, don't take Amazon's wild estimates as anything close to accurate. They are seemingly grabbed out of thin air. When other retailers get it, Amazon will get it too.

I got my Amazon preorder of Black Goat on November 5. I did have to approve a delay. It was originally listed as being in stock October 31 and they did not get it in time for that, though it was obviously only a couple of days later.

2 quick comments:

Corruption cards are discarded if they have the same symbol as a just-closed gate. Just in case you forgot that rule.

If the first card is a rumor, it is discarded and you keep drawing until you get a non-Rumor card.

Today I played with the herald against Azetoth.

At one time, my Ashcan pete had 8 corruption cards, and Gloria had 10 or so. We both had a card with which you have to discard the top two cards of the corruption deck.

"Luckily" Ashcan was devoured and his corruption went away

Needless to say, we got our asses handed to us big time.

What did I think of it?

Veeeeeeery difficult (I'm used to just the base game).
We didn't have any cult encounters though, but it was a strange game overall.
The first card was a rumor. And just after we passed that one, we got another rumor. Also some gatebursts after eachother and all. Wasn't our luckiest game in the world

Hope to play it again soon though!

Same thing is happening to me right now with Black Goat and with the Kingsport expansion. Supposed to now ship in December.

What if this were something time-dependent, like a birthday gift? Not good. I'm with everyone that says "one more time and I'm taking my business elsewhere".

I get the feeling that the free shipping folks get shafted first if they start running out of copies. What do you think?

The Black Goat + Herald kicked my ass for the 3rd time in a row. The doom tokens for monster surges with the Black Goat Herald did me in again. I decided to go with just 3 investigators this time. And I (the gangster) almost won the game (I was down to one one doom token in the final battle). I would have won if I wasn't playing with the final battle cards from Kingsport. This expansion is f*#n great.

The small decks are usually pretty combatible. That includes the items, spells, allies, skills, etc. The problem you are going to have is a bit of dilution with so many cards. You may also see a bit more powerful weapons for the latter expansions but they are usually a little balanced because their cost is high or they need to refresh(such as weapons). Some people like to cull the decks a bit.

Monsters should be OK to mix and leave together. Certain ones may only be affected by encounters and mythos cards from their respective expansion (like removing them or them gaining certain traits). Generally, they are playable as is though.

Encounters you have to be careful with. Some are more specifc to those expansions and are usually the driving force behind the theme. Probably the only set that is meant to be mixed in permanently is the 7 cards for each Arkham location that came with Dunwich. OW encounters would work about the same though maybe slightly better than Arkham locations. You just risk running into more "Other" locations.

Mythos cards really don't work well being played without their expansion. They call for gates and clues to be placed off the Arkham board most times. They also try to utilize the different decks introduced by their expansion. This is a bigger problem with the Big Box expansions as the little box are still confined to Arkham.

I have just purchased King in Yellow and Black Goat of the Woods for myself. Leave them (Goat's monsters.) mixed in there?

I don't think I'd be crazy enough to play them both at the same time.
