Surely they're obvious?
If it's the last round, you might want to take control of the company to make sure that it doesn't steal a block that is much more valuable to one of your other companies.
Or you might want to stop someone else doing that.
Or you might want to steal a block from someone else.
Oh - that's 3...

Got to play last night with a group of six. I liked the game well enough but the end game's cube grab seemed a little strange. It seemed like the cubes should be awarded based on some feature of the game like majority of connections to the city or some such thing.

The biggest bottleneck in the shipping process is that there's only one Martin, and he has to take the games down to his local Post Office for posting. He can only carry so many in one go.

And Hammy's right - the games that were at Essen went from nos. 501 to 1500, and the first 500 were delivered to Martin in Manchester for pre-orders and subscribers.

Those that were at Essen on Wednesday might have sen a production line - initially staffed by Danes, and then by Warfrog assistants when the Danes became overworked - that for about 3 hours were unpacking games, handing them to Martin for signing, then repacking the games.

I got Steel Driver today (actually yesterday). I also subscribed. It was post marked on the third of Nov, and it arrived on the 12th. I think perhaps since economies are slow, there is less shipping going on around the world in general, so those things that are being shipped are able to get through quicker than normal? Just a guess. But I am happy I didn't have to wait 8 weeks. It was funny, my wife and I were out to dinner when I told her about how some people had to wait for Tinners' Trail until 8 weeks after they ordered it. I told her that it was kinda sad that Funagain.com was selling the games I had ordered(After the Flood, SD) and if I was to order from them I'd prolly get their copies a month or two before my original ordered copies. And wouldn't you know it? When we got home that very night, sitting on my doorstep was a package. Inside? Steel Driver! That was pretty funny to us, and I did a little happy dance I must admit.

If you didn't choose to subscribe you could still preorder games individually.

If you didn't pay for the subscription or preorder SD then I would guess that Martin may have made a mistake in sending a game out to you OR you have a mystery benefactor. If I was you, I would email Martin and ask.

When I posted above I had sent Martin an email and wouldn't you know it, he had filed my request for Tinners' Trail in the wrong folder. As a side effect, it looked like I was one of the subscribers. As a result, I've gotten Steel Driver and After the Flood is already on it's way (he says). He's very kindly just said keep them so...total bonus day for me I guess.

Awesome stuff Martin and holy cow do I look forward to playing these.

Thread: Re: Transcontinental Link Query

The company that created the link gets $50 income. Every other company that's involved gets $30.

The rules are pretty clear how to figure this out. First you need to trace a path that uses the lease companies. If there's a tie, then you need to trace the shortest path among those possible with the least companies. FInally, if there's still a tie, each tied company gets the $30. Here's the relevant quote from the rules:
The company that builds the track link that creates the transcontinental
link will receive a bonus of $50 to its profit level. This should be added
immediately, along with the value of the location to which it just linked.
Each other company involved in the transcontinental link will receive a
bonus of $30 to its profit level.
The transcontinental link must be traced along a route that uses the
minimum number of different companies. If there are two or more
viable paths that can be traced by the link then
the one that uses the minimum number of track
links belonging to the potentially involved
companies must be used. If there is a tie then
each tied company receives the bonus profit.

So in your example (I am assuming green created the transcontinental link), green would get $50 and both yellow and blue would get $30 because the paths are the same length (7 links):
Green/Blue: SF-SLC-Denver-KC-Chicago-Pittsburg-Baltimore-NY

Green/Yellow: SF-SLC-Denver-KC-Chicago-Detroit-Buffalo-NY

Thread: Transcontinental Link Query

Hi all,
this situation occured last night and I was wondering how others would interpret the rules.

Green had managed to build:
Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Kansas City, Denver, Salt Lake City and San Franciso.

Blue had a link between New York and Baltimore.

Yellow had links between Chicago, Detroit, Buffalo and New York.

My take was that blue and yellow are 'potentially involved' and that blue should be selected because it required fewer links. Others in the room felt it was ambiguous, that there were two possible paths from Chicago to New York of length 3 and that yellow and blue should share the $30.

Comments?

Thread: Re: So this is Steel Driver? Our first game

What I am liking most about the Treefrog games is that they are in general significantly shorter than the older Warfrog titles but have more game play per minute of playing time than a Warfrog game.

I love Age of Steam but it takes quite a long time to play. Tinners Trail and Steel Driver are not as deep as AoS but they take a lot less time to play. I figure you could play TT and SD in the time it would take to play AoS and there are definitely times when I would prefer two shorter but still thoughtful games over one longer one.

Thread: Re: What a surprise!

IIRC the investors get games 1-10, subscribers and pre-orders get the lower end of the number range 11-400 or so and at Essen I assume Martin used a different part of the range, possibly 900 to 1500 or something like that.

The game isn't sold out but I expect it to be pretty hard to get hold of (until it is taken on by a larger publisher) if you wait a few months to buy it.

Does this mean it's nearly sold out already?

No. Martin randomly distributes the games. Just because you get #10 or #1490 has no bearing on whether you got an "early" or "late" one.

Interesting that the west coasters seem to be getting theirs already. I would think they would hit the east coast first.

This did actually happen last night - purple got completely boxed in on the first turn, an had no way of building any more track. With shares only worth $20, keeping an extra cube for the next round of bidding generally seemed more valuable.
