Hello Alex,

Only about 80 copies of Fimbulvetr were made. To the best of my knowledge, the only place that still has copies for sale is Jolly Games (game designer Tom Jolly's design studio). They list Fimublvetr at the bottom of their order page...
http://www.silcom.com/~tomjolly/order.htm

If it turns out that Jolly Games is out of stock, please let me know and I'll see what I can do for you.

-jdroscha

Thread: User Review

'Fimbulvetr: Winter of Winters' is a small, quick, tactical battle game for two players. While the mechanics could conceivably adapted for more players, the quick combat of units being removed almost every turn in the beginning could put a hypothetical 3rd or 4th player at an unplayable disadvantage.

I bought this game a while back, and while I rather enjoy it, I've only played about a dozen games or so.

The abilities of pieces are determined by runes in each of the four corners. These control attack and defense strength, ranged attack ability, and movement. The basic set is perfectly playable, and game "tweakers" will enjoy the simple rules for making their own combinations of abilities for new pieces.

Set-up involves each side placing their fighters on the field next to each other, alternating, one at a time. Once done, combat begins. The first player seems to have an advantage. Given the small number of warriors in play, being even one warrior up against your opponent can be a big advantage in the tit-for-tat early exchanges.

There are no dice or other random elements. Each round, each player may have one of their warriors take one action. If that action results in the death of an opponent's warrior, the opponent is removed from play. Cards attack and defend from their rune-labled corners. If an attacker has more attack-runes on its corner (adjacent to its target) then the target has defense runes, the defender is eliminated.

Careful tactical positioning of your warriors in the initial set-up is vital, as is wise use of the ranged attack and movement attributes to evade (or cancel the evasion of) close combat.

Pros:

This game is *fast* and portable. A small table and a few minutes are all you need.

It's tactical and lacks any element of randomness. A plus for the hard-core gamer types.

It's simple to learn and provides interesting tactics.

You can make your own armies and try out different tactics easily.

Cons:

There isn't a lot of "there" there. This game lacks substance and depth. It's a skirmish battle, and not much more.

The components are flimsy paper, as is the box, though you can easily make your own out of sturdier stuff.

All in all, if you are looking for a quick game of tactics, this is a fine, inexpensive addition to your collection.
I'd recommend it, giving it about a '6' on a ten scale.
