Ah yes, confusion cleared up ... for me at least.

I originally comments based on memory. But then the photos on the Geek threw me. When I went home and pulled out the cards, I must have the reprints as all of my expansion cards are marked.

Yeah, I'd keep the Munchkin Classic cards all together. IIRC, The additional cards are "balanced" to keep the card ratios together. Munchkin 4 adds additional rules to the game, so you may want to separate out its cards when the noobs come over.

Once you add cards from other non-Classic expansions... bets are off! Some items work only with specific races and classes, and, yes, there are no Orks in space!

Have fun!

aka. Washu! ^O^

leave the cards in more the merrier.

I have 3 sets mixed up and games are far more interesting as you can't tell what cards you have coming, or what cards have been.

I've played the game a lot and i'm still suprised by the cards from time to time.

There is penalty to have more cards in the deck, as there are plenty of the important cards, i.e. classes and races, there are no cards required to win, and by having more card variety you get more choice to play and not every one ends ends up as a fighter.

I thought these were all marked by a little icon on the face of the card??? I am prettyr sure they are there - check near the corners.

I don't know of any hard fast rules about the size of the deck. But the more cards you add, the less likely you are to pull specific cards. So most posts I have seen suggest some trimming of the decks when you mix cards.

Thread: Mixing (and un-mixing) cards

It doesn't look like the expansion cards have any designation on either the front or back of the cards to distinquish them from the other expansions or base Munchkins set. After mixing cards of different sets together, can you only re-sort the cards back to their original sets by reference to the card lists?

Also, is there some limit to the number of cards to combine without impacting the game play (for example, % chance to be able to draw a race card would seem to be lowered if you add [rather than substitute] more cards from expansions into the deck)? I don't see a deck size limit in the rules but one is encouraged to add expansion cards to the game play.

It seems to me that there were a few new rules based on the new cards and races. I'm just getting back into Munchkin and I can't recall what those rules were. I combined the cards for Muchkin 1,2,3 & 4 and somehow lost the rules for the 2nd & 3rd expansions.
IIRC...

If there were rules included with M2 and M3, I believe they were identical to the original set included with M1. All M2 and M3 added to the game were additional races (Orcs and Gnomes), and an extra class (Bards). Nothing in the base rules changed until steeds were introduced in M4.

As for the expansions being stand-alone... they aren't really meant to be, but I guess they could be used on their own. It would make for some really odd games, since the number of race/class cards would be pretty skewed. If you were only playing with the cards from M2, there would be 4 Orc cards, yet only one each of the other races. If you were only playing with M3, you'd get 5 Gnomes, and only one each of the others.

I know there was extra rules for Munchkin 4 because of the added allies and stuff, but since M2 doesn't have any new rules, I don't think there was a rulebooklet. If I remember well, mine didn't have one.

I don't know how it happened but I lost my copy of the rules for Munchkin 2 & Munchkin 3. If anyone could e-mail me a copy of the rules to my mailbox here on the geek, or can tell me where I can find the rules it would be much appreciated! I tried the Steve Jackson Games site but they are not posted.

well i geuss its true what some say. It is truly a love or hate game. i would like to know how many people you are playing with.

i geuss its just the kind of game you fall in love with, or you hate. I HATED it the first time i played it, and the second time too. Then it was bearable to me to play with 3 people, and so i did for a while and its a good time, but recently i was in a hotel room with my brother, his GF and my 2 coisings we decided to break it out with the expansion. Well we played the greatest munchkin game that had ever been played, Everyone has 9 levels ,execept for my bro, who had 10 when it was over.

i dont think its a weak game, i mean they keep releasing expanions, but theats just my opinion.

Munchkins is not my favourite game and this expansion is no help at all to improving my outlook on munchkins.

I bought this expanison off a friend , in the hope of improving a weak game .I did not pay full price for it which I am glad about .
The expansion doesn't improve the game play in any way , and the only race added is the orc which is nothing special.
The expansion cards are the usual mix of items and monsters and plus or minus cards to inflict during combat.Nothing new here and no new rules.

To put it plainly it just more cards at a high dollar price , which do absolutly nothing to add to this weak meta gaming experience.

The jokes are funny about once or twice, in addition you should have played AD & D or D&D to even understand the references in the jokes , such the gazbo in the orginal game.So you have to have been a munchkin yourself to enjoy this.

I sadly heard a player cheating in this game recently by drawing two cards & adding them to their hand , and then they must discard one of the pulled cards ,this person was discarding one of HIS orginal cards from his hand.Very bad gameplay.Oh dear, so be warned on this point.
In my opinionits not worth the money .No additional rules or improved gameplay come forth with this.

A okay beer and prentzels game expansion , if you are half drunk :-)

A poor expansion for a low rated game.

Thread: Session Report

At this point Alice left for the evening, but for the rest of us it was still pretty early. Six is a little more manageable than seven players, so the game choices were a bit more numerous. But when Jim saw Munchkin in Dave's bag, he enthusiasticly requested it, so we sat down to play it.

This was the first game we played with the first Munchkin expansion, Munchkin 2 - Unnatural Axe. It adds a new race, orcs, as well as new monsters, weapons, armor, and other stuff. Nothing changes as far as game play, though. Kick in a door, fight a monster if one is there, go looking for trouble, or search the room. Collect treasure. Gain levels.

The game started pretty cooperatively, as people helped others out with combat. Carrie helped Jim beat up on a Snot Elemental. Helen quickly acquired the Wizard class, and charmed her way out of battles but into treasure. Sterling helped out early and often, moving quickly up to level 5, but then stalled, as he seemed to get hit with every curse imaginable. At one point he was cursed with tiny hands, and a chicken on his head! Jim, on the other hand, tried to help people out, and generally got the short end of the staff when he did. He somehow managed to progress in levels with a very lean, very empty backpack. But it was Helen who led the pack, and after an epic battle with a frost giant and an unspeakably awful, indescribable horror (the latter of which she was able to charm), she achieved 9th level, and threatened to win the game.

Eventually, Carrie and Dave reached Level 8, and Helen fell back one. Carrie found a treasure card that got her up to nine. Then Dave became the first to try for the win. He kicked down the door to discover a level 1 Maul Rat, which should have been easy to beat. But then it grew humongous, becoming a level 11 Maul Rat, and was joined by 3,872 Orcs, and with all of that, Dave just couldn't overcome it, and had to run. He failed, of course, and had to lose 5 levels! He never threatened again.

Many games of this sort have very similar endgames. During the game everyone grows steadily, until getting just short of winning. Then each player tries to break through and win, only to be knocked back by the other players. The player who ends up being the first to try after all the knocking-back capabilities are exhausted winds up winning. And that's pretty much how this played out. Carrie tried to reach Level 10 next, but after getting backstabbed by the three thieves, and seeing Santa Claus become more intelligent and refreshed with a bad-tasting sports drink, she had to run from battle, and stay at Level 9. Next up was Helen, who faced a teddy bear. If she killed it, she'd gain Level 10 and win. Well, the Teddy Bear became undead, and gained from lemming juice, and Helen was backstabbed once, but it wasn't enough, as Helen was able to user her Kneepads of Allure to force Carrie to help her, giving her enough to kill the undead teddy bear, reach Level 10, and win the game.

I bought this at the same time as the regular munchkin, and played with it immediately. While the Orc is a nice addition, wizard/thief is still the main way to go. None of the cards really change the dynamic of the game, and, as expected, are very funny and cutely drawn. Although nothing too bad to disrupt the game, there's really not that much special about Unnatural Axe, either. If you don't have a large group to play with, the extra cards aren't necessary, and nothing in this deck will change much from the original. If you're just looking for new, funny cards to add a little spice to Munchkin, and can cope with the cost, it's good. Just don't expect a whole new playing experience because of this expansion.

Silly us.

I drew a wizard class early on, therefore much of the game was spent making sure that I didn't get any treasure from charming rich monsters. Brad advanced in levels the quickest and drew some cool treasure in the early part of the game; so naturally he starting charging everyone extortionary rates to help them overcome high level monsters. Justin could not hold on to any cards to save his life. Amazingly, he ended the game at level 9 without a race, class, or treasure having remained on the table for more than one turn. Mark and Kerry did not engage in the petty backstabbing and metagaming that went on and managed to end the game at levels 8 and 7 respectively.

Kirk seemed to enjoy playing curses on everyone and boosting the monsters to impossible levels, but he and I formed sort of a coalition to win the game after I drew an elf card and we both had to flee from a player assisted level 42 Shadow Nose. Dave drew a thief class towards the middle of the game. From that point on he backstabbed anyone who tried to fight a monster without giving him a cut of the treasure, then he would try to steal any treasure they got from the combat.

In the end, our short little game took almost two hours with a final score breakdown as follows: Cliff 10; Kerry 7; Brad 8; Justin 9; Mark 8; Dave 1 (he kept getting caught stealing treasure); Kirk 9
