I would love to introduce this game to non-gamer friends but they would go nuts if I tried to make them look up a bunch of different cards in a book. This could be much more accessible than it is.

Clay

I like the look of the mats, but if The Bullet edition reprint is getting 4th Ed. cards as well, I don't see a need for me to purchase this.

It would be really cool if DaVinci released the mats as a separate product for those of us who don't want to buy a new edition of the game just for them.

Oh well, I really only need The Bullet so I can finally get an English version of High Noon (and professionally printed Claus the Saint, Handcuffs, and New Identity).

Yesterday they announced:

daVinci Games, Alliance Game Distributors and Diamond Comic Distributors are proud to announce that they are teaming up to bring the critically acclaimed and fan-beloved BANG! game back to retailers in North America. As part of this agreement, Alliance will be deputized to serve as the exclusive distributor to USA, Australia and New Zealand and as non-exclusive distributor to Canada and Mexico.

BANG! recreates the old-fashioned spaghetti western shoot-out, each player receiving a random character card and a secret role in the game. The Outlaws hunt the Sheriff. The Sheriff hunts the Outlaws. The Renegade plots secretly, ready to take one side or the other. Bullets fly.

"BANG! became an instant classic on its release, and it appeals to a wide audience," said Mike Webb, VP of Marketing and Customer Service for Alliance. "We are delighted to have the opportunity to bring it back to the American audience!"

"We are proud to be back on the U.S. market and other important world markets in partnership with Alliance." said Roberto Corbelli, CEO of daVinci. "We are sure that the quality of our products, combined with the ability, experience and presence of Alliance on the markets of reference, are the winning factors to deliver more and more value to our customers. Moreover new games are in sight, first of all an entirely renewed BANG!. Stay tuned !"

Wagon Trains have set out from daVinci chock full of product. We expect to have Bang! The Bullet in late September, Bang! 4th Edition and a new edition of Dodge City late in the holiday season!
You
will find a new edition of BANG! with lots of improvements: we hope you will
appreciate it.

We'll announce the new distribution agreement through our web site soon
(http://www.davincigames.com), so keep in touch.

We have a new official line on BANG!. The following should be considered to supercede the information provided by Kim (which she believed accurate at the time).

A new licensing agreement for BANG! has been submitted by Mayfair Games to da Vinci. No final agreement has been reached, and until a new licensing agreement is in place, no future edition of BANG! will be produced by Mayfair.

Not quite as final as our original statement, but in the short term, it's functionally identical. And, at this point I'm not in a position to comment on any other part of the da Vinci line.

As things proceed, we'll post more information on our website.

Alex Yeager
Mayfair Games

DaVinci games haven't been featured on Mayfair's website since at least early June, which is when I noticed their absence. Mayfair did have most of them in stock at Origins '08, which is when I grabbed all the ones I still wanted/needed (the Bullet and a few 2-player card games).

Check DaVinci's website; they have an English version (of sorts)...
DW

The Bullet and if there are any plans for a 3rd Edition printing.

Here's the reply I got:

Ryan,
I am sorry but Bang and Bang the Bullet are out of stock and out of print
and will not be reprinted. For any other information please contact DaVinci
Games.

Kim
Customer Service
Mayfair Games, Inc.
847-677-6655

More alarming is the complete lack of DaVinci Games listed on Mayfair's web site at the time I'm writing this post. I'm not totally sure what's going on, but my impression is that Mayfair is no longer distributing games by DaVinci. I am going to send DaVinci Games an e-mail to see if I can find out any more information.

Thread: Re: Why Bang makes me want to shoot myself (5 out of 10)

I honestly don't understand how games over an hour are common place for those of you that don't like this game.

Over the 20+ games of Bang! (usually with 5-7 players) I've played, only two or three have gone over the forty minute mark, and that's only when people had two really defensive characters (like Elena Fuentes and Jourdannais) left.

Yes, you only have a 24% chance of drawing the Bang! card you need, but you have to realize that you are also playing on a team, and your teammates will have cards too. Plus, there are characters that can draw a lot of cards, or have alternative ways to mitigate needing a lot of bangs like Janet and Slab. There are also cards like General Store and Wells Fargo that let you get through the draw pile faster looking for the cards you need.

Maybe you guys are just too nice to each other or something , because usually when we play, guns start blazing on the second or third go around and the game is over by 20 minutes.

Sure, starting next to Slab or Willy the Kid means that you are probably going to get eliminated in the first round and sit on your butt for 15 minutes waiting for the game to finish, but then we have Nintendo DS's, snacks, and a dog to play with while we wait, so it's not that bad.

Thread: Re: Two dynamites

Dodge City FAQ 6

D6. What happens when there are two Dynamite in play and only two players still alive?

R. The Dynamite must pass to the first player (in clockwise order) without a Dynamite already in play. So, if the Dynamite does not explode, it stays in front of the same player, because the other one has already another in play.
Thread: Two dynamites

I'm sure this must've been asked before, but I could not find it: What happens when you play a dynamite while another is already in play? The dynamites will obviously catch up to each other, but the rules state you can't have two of the same blue card in front of you. The impression I get from reading comments in other questions is that the the dynamite would skip to the first player w/o a dynamite in front (possibly winding up back where it started). Is that correct?

Thread: Re: Another rules question - this time dynamite.

I believe it would be his last act of desperation to pass it on.

The rules explicitly state the only way to get rid of the dynamite card is as noted above. Otherwise one has to assume the designer did not foresee the possibility of a character being killed while holding the dynamite.

Thread: Re: Duel - Are you hitting yourself?

And here is the official answer:

Q26. If an Outlaw plays a Duel and loses, does the player who won the Duel draw the 3 cards reward?

A. No. The reward goes to the player who played the card which was responsible of the elimination of the Outlaw. But since that card was played by the Outlaw himself, no one can gain the reward.

If the player holding the dynamite is shot dead, then he can't pass it on. You could argue that the dynamite then blows up in his hands, but as he's already dead, it doesn't matter.
It might make him harder to bury.

I don't believe that is correct. The rules say the dynamite remains in play until it explodes or is removed by the play of the Panic or Cat Balou card.

I would pass it to the next player on the left if the current owner died.

Thread: Duel - Are you hitting yourself?

We had an odd situation where an Outlaw challenged another player to a duel. The Outlaw had only 1 bullet/life left. Then the Outlaw lost the duel and died.

Does the opponent get the 3 cards for the kill? Or did the Outlaw kill himself (and therefore, like dynamite, no one gets cards)?

We can see it both ways. The Outlaw played the initiating Duel card, but in a (real world) Duel you would be shot by someone else - not yourself.

I looked through prior rules and cannot find where this has been addressed. Obviously I'd love to get Emiliano Sciarra's opinion. We play this game at work nearly every day at lunch. Way fun!

Thread: Another rules question - this time dynamite.

Here's this situation, say I am Pedro Ramirez and I have 1 life point remaining. The dynamite is directly to my right. That person does not trigger an explosion so the dynamite is passed to me. During the rest of his turn, he plays a Bang! card on me and I die. What happens with the dynamite card? Does it die with me or is passed to the player to my left?

Thanks,
Bob
