non-permanent dry-wipe marker pens are best. fairly cheap from your local stationery store, or free from your local workplace...

Thread: The rules

This is one of the nicest versions of Clue/Cluedo ever made, being in a lovely art-deco style which really adds to the atmosphere. It deserves attention, so if you have a chance to pick up a copy, go for it. It does however have one or two dodgy rules. Here are a couple of hints on improving the game.

Allow suggestions as in normal Cluedo. This is what Cluedo is all about and there is no reason why this shouldn't still be part of the game. To allow this from the beginning, replace rule 8 under 'Setting up the game' with the following:

8.	Once the Murder Cards have been placed in the Murder Card Holders the remaining Murder Cards are shuffled thoroughly and divided into two equal piles. One pile is dealt to the players, so that each player receives the same number of cards. Place any remaining spare cards in the second pile. The remaining Murder Cards are shuffled together thoroughly and placed face down next to the Super Clue Cards.

When a suggestion is made, the player may place the suggested character on any square in that room and swaps the suggested weapon with the one currently there, if different. Of course it will not be possible to solve the crime with suggestions alone until / unless all the Murder Cards are eventually held by the players, but it will help the investigation and add interaction back into the game.

If playing this way, consider experimenting with the balance of Clue cards by removing some of the 'look under flap' options. This will enable the Murder Cards to be picked up by the players more quickly.

I also suggest making the action required by rule 5c under 'Game Play' optional (though not allowing the player turning the counter a second throw and not removing items from the board). Leave the counter face up somewhere so that players can see that the clue is available, but give players the option to ignore the clue if desired:

c) If the clue involves a clue being situated on a Weapon or in the Garden then players may race towards the Clue. The first player to land on the space occupied by the Weapon or Garden Ornament in question takes the top SUPER CLUE Card. The instructions are followed and the card replaced on the bottom of the pack. The Clue Counter is then placed face down by the side of the board.

Lastly, beware that the card coding system is slightly flawed, in that the detective notes don't show the exact positions of colours and numbers. For example, an experienced player missing only the suspect, having identified the room and weapon using the codes, and finding RED under the top left flap of the remaining holder, might be able to deduce that the card is either Miss Scarlett or Captain Brown. However, according to the detective note cards, it could also be Mr Slate-Grey, who has the colour RED top-right. To add a bit of extra spice, consider randomly inverting the cards at rule 7 under 'Setting up the game'.

Whew! that's a lot. You might be able to tweak this in better ways, it's worth trying as the game components are absolutely beautiful.

K
