Thread: simple solution for the A4 problem

Husband and I bought the game thinking it would be easy enough to order A4 paper. Not so much. I'm not spending $15 on shipping to get a $7 ream of paper. SO we just had Kinko's cut us a ream of legal size paper down to A4. $5 for the ream, 2 cuts at $1 each. Simpler than pie. Hope this helps anyone searching in vain for the blasted A4.

Thread: Session Report

We started off tonight with a game we don’t play very often – Kayanak. With all the small metal balls rolling around, I live in constant fear of losing them. However, since this game was first, the kids were very careful with the pieces. Mary (age 4) and Isaiah (age 2) really enjoy this game because they can punch holes in the paper and then see if they can catch any “fish”. The tactile nature of the game is something that really appeals to them. Although it can be a bit frustrating when what you roll on the two dice doesn’t allow you to do anything (such as punching holes when all the holes around you are already punched) the payoff of seeing their faces when they pull up the line and have 2 or 3 “fish” attached to them makes it all worth it. Knowing the attention span of our kids, we opted to play to 10 instead of 15 – this left them wanting to play again, but it’s always better to leave them wanting more than play something to death.

Isaiah was the Big Eskimo of the game as he brought up his tenth fish – one almost every round. Mary suffered a little from having to move her Eskimo around on a bare ice floe with little to do until she could punch a few holes. She made up for it by pulling up a few “big fish” worth 2 points each. Mom made slow but steady progress while Dad exhibited a knack for scaring off the fish from nearly every hole that he punched through the ice.

Isaiah – 10
Mary – 7
Mom – 7
Dad – 3
