Was anyone ahead at that point in the game? Did anyone have actual points? Can't that person just call the game right there at an end. I thought the game could be ended at any time.

Thread: Rules Question (Endgame)

Some friends of mine bought this and complained that they get stuck toward the end of the game (a lockup, basically). I tried this at home, simulating three players playing, and the same thing happened. Towards the end of the game, someone picked up the whole sift pile, so there was only one card laying in it when they finished their turn. The other players had so few cards that it ended up with those two just drawing the card off of the sift pile and laying down another over and over again. It seemed like with the right memory, you could almost do that eternally in such a way as to not allow the other players to form anymore trios. Plus, there was just nothing going on, and nothing to be done if the card you needed wasn't showing up. Am I missing something in how to play this?

From reviews and session reports here and elsewhere, I'm not noticing complaints about the endgame. Help??

Thread: User Review

Got myself a copy of "Mummy Rummy" that's suppose to work well with kids and finally test play it with wife, then an initial play with my dear nephew and sis-in-law. The components of the game are quite minimal, with a deck of card, a large instruction sheet with big letters and a sheet with some history of Egypt.

The game play is quite simple, the cards are divided by colors and then on each card, it might have 2 picture (black and white background) or one single picture with black background. You try to collect and display a set of three cards (Trio) that form an Egyptian artifacts. Rules is quite straight forward, you either draw a card from the Dig pile or choose a starting card from the sift pile and draw the card plus all the cards below it. After that, you have to place a card face up on the sift pile. Once a player has displayed a trio wiith one of the (e.g. white) background, the other player will not be able to form artifacts in the other (i.e. black) background in that color set. The twist, however, is if one player collected 3 single black background card of a color. If there are already 2 white trio of that color set displayed on the table, he can show his 3 black cards, snatch and take over all the white cards, thus forming his black background sets of that color. End scoring is based on no of white background trio, number of black background trio minus any unused cards in your hand. Any player can declare end game at any time. If the dig pile runs out, player has to draw from the sift pile. However, he cannot place the card that he has just drawn from the sift pile back onto it.

So, how does the game play. It's quite confusing looking at different pieces of puzzles, showing portion of different artifacts on the same card. The reference sheet with the picture of all the artifacts in the game helps a lot in sorting it out. There are definately luck involved in the draw and I kind of like it since it allows kids to play and win. The matching and sorting is quite fun and also calculating whether to take cards from the sift pile can be a painful decision. Many a time, we was caugth in the cross road of whether to get a pile of unwanted cards just to complete 2 trios. However, I did noticed that forming white trio in the early game might not be that advantages due to the snatching rule. More play might tell whether this really affect game play. This is definately not a game for 2 players and will shine with more chaos with more players.

Thread: Session Report

Present: Donna, Doug, Julian, Alan, Roger, Chris, Greg

Doug Adams writes:

Our pre-Christmas report is going to be a bit rushed due to time commitments here on the bottom of the world. It was great to see some new members, Chris and Greg, appear tonight. Thanks to Roger and Dey for bringing them along.

This curious little game appeared on the table courtesy of Julian. Alan, Donna and myself played this while waiting for others to arrive. It's a rummy based game where you are trying to form sets of Egyptian artifacts, three cards to a set, from a deck of about 50 cards. The quirk here is some cards have two images on them, so they could belong to one of two sets. You score for sets, and deduct points for cards left in the hand.

Scores:
Alan: 110
Doug: 100
Julian: 80
Donna: 80

Doug's rating: hmmm, 5 perhaps, but deserves another play through.
