propsero wrote:
The men come unpainted, so you will need to paint them yourself after your favorite sports teams. It would be nice to see prepainted player sets from various teams.
Not sure how widespread this is. While I have no doubt there have been unpainted editios all the ones I have ever seen have painted me.

While cricket teams these days tend to be more colourfui, traditional colours are all while with only different colour caps to distingish teams so I can't see painting being too hard.

Thread: User Review

Test Match is a light, live-action cricket game for two players. Widely available in Australia and the UK, the game consists of a felt "field" with zone markings and a boundary fence, one bowler, one batsman, and a group of fielders.

The fielders are figurines of cricketers in fielding stances, with a plastic base which will stop the "ball" (a metal ball bearing) when it passes through their legs. The bowler is a figure hinged at the waist with a cupped hand which holds the ball, and a chute which is used to bowl and aim the ball. The batsman is a figure which is holding a bat and is hinged at the shoulders, controlled by a plastic base which extends behind him over the rear boundary.

The game is fairly simple. A game length is agreed on, typically two innings. The bowling player sets his fielders around the field in positions that are likely to catch balls. This is subject to some restrictions on how many fielders per field zone. The bowling player then places the ball bearing in the hand of the bowler, and bowls (actually rolls) the ball down the chute toward the batsman. The batting player attempts to hit the ball as hard as possible, while defending the stumps, just as in cricket. The fielding player may move his fielders between balls.

The skill of the game primarily lies in batting; once you are adept, pretty much any ball is hittable and it is possible to get some aim to avoid the fielders. Bowling also varies based on the skill of the bowler; we were able to produce some pretty crazy spin bowls. Unfortunately the cupped hand of the bowler is not very conducive to manipulating the ball very much, nor was it designed to. The surest strategy seemed to boil down to bowling as fast as possible.

This game has been produced in innumerable incarnations over the years. I've seen sets from Crown and Andrews and Mattel, but know there have been many others produced.

Strengths: Fun! You would be hard pressed to find a more fun action/dexterity sports game, and certainly this is the best cricket game I've seen. This is not a somber, stats-filled sports simulation by any means. This is a cricket slugfest, with scores in the several hundreds most innings. It's a lot of fun to whack the ball so hard that it knocks a fielder over and hits the boundary.

Criticisms: few, but a couple. The men come unpainted, so you will need to paint them yourself after your favorite sports teams. It would be nice to see prepainted player sets from various teams. The felt is sturdy but is apt to getting creased and affecting the ball -- be prepared to iron if you want a flat surface.

All in all, a light game but quite a fun one which I recommend to both adults and children who are fans of cricket. 9 out of 10.
