We played this at work today in a team meeting. The question was, "What makes a noise when you turn it on?" One answer was "A woman". Much hilarity.

Thread: "GREAT party game" or "THIS is our common denominator"

Had people over for games, cookies, cocoa, and peppermint schnaps, and got an unexpectedly big response.

Apparently, my cookie making skills have gained regional attention.

Anyway, since I have a full size chalkboard in my living room (I live in a old modular classroom from the 70's--with a urinal in the boys' room), I started out with Pictionary: a nice safe, familiar bet for my many non-gaming friends.

It went nicely.

But Family Feud got everybody rocking.

We split the room in half, so there were 8 people on a side (Yes, a little over the official limit) and I set my small kitchen table up in front of the table with my Quizzard buzz in system up front. (Really, you NEED to pick up a Quizzard, it gives such great joy and asks for so little in return).

Right from the get go people started adding pieces of their memories of the show, humming the theme and clapping along. Finally, with the team names--The Sorenenenesonskis and the Waldomakis--on the board, the team captains approached the buzzers and it started.

With a kiss, of course, and some hand stroking ala Richard Dawson.

The Sorenen...'s took an early lead, which I attribute to their seizing first on the "good answer, good answer" clap/chant, but ulitimately it was the Waldomakis who took the game with their knowing nods and droning repetition of the revealed un-guessed survey answers.

Game play was a little unorthodox because of the numbers as we did 8 rounds, so everyone would have a chance at the first answer buzzer. No one got tired of the game however.

My favorite answer to the "Name something that has gets more scratched the older it gets": your head. Sadly, didn't make the survey.

Most disturbing question: "Name something you do when you get bored of watching TV." Yikes! Who could ever get bored of watching TV?

The speed money round went well too, although we didn't play that multiple choice style like the game was designed for. We played the correct way with me standing beside Randy, with my arm on her shoulder, softly reading her the questions while Polly franticly wrote the answers on the chalk board. Randy tallied up a handy 168 points, so when Brian came out of the bathroom, he had the game won by the third question...and I never got to make the "eh-eh" buzzer noise for a repeated answer.

But for me and the Sorenen...s, there's always next time.

It was a weeknight, and we degenerated into mere conversation and drinking after that, but even my friends who roll their eyes when I mention boardgames had a great time...so we shall see what the new year brings.

Thread: Let's Plaaaayyyyy the Feud!

On your marks....

Let's start....

The FAMILY FEUD!!!!

(insert cheezy theme music here)

I love the Family Feud game show, so I had to buy a copy of the home game. One of my friends had an early edition in college (circa 1983), and we had a blast with it. The questions were dated, sure, but the game board was great. (Side note: One of the funniest games we had, the question was "Name something the President has exclusive access to." My friend's girlfriend answered "The First Lady." We laughed for 10 minutes straight.)

In the old version, all of the questions and answers were placed strategically on paper, and you'd slide the paper into a special slot. Then when a contestant got a right answer, you would slide a plastic bar back and reveal the answer and the score - just like in the game show.

Fast forward to the turn of the millenium, and I'm buying a new copy of the game with more recent questions to make it a little better. I get it home, expecting to get the same set up as the old game, only to be completely disappointed.

They've replaced the ultra-cool sliding plastic bars, with a lame piece of laminated cardboard and a crayon. At some point, I'm going to have to build my own mechanism, and put all the questions on special paper so I can have my own special board just like the game show.

The only other gripe I have is why they limit the home game to just three rounds. Why not include up to 5 round like the regular show? We don't want a stupid "Bullseye" round before the game. Just make it as much like the show as possible, and we'll be happy.

Overall, I was disappointed by the game components, but it's the Feud! So I can't get too mad. It's one of the best game shows ever, and we'll still play it, even though I don't have my super-cool answer board.
