I don't know howw it happened but I lost my copy of the rules for Munchkin 2 & Munchkin 3. If anyone could e-mail me a copy of the rules to my mailbox here on the geek, or can tell me where I can find the rules it would be much appreciated! I tried the Steve Jackson Games site but they are not posted.

At the fan's promptings, they sold the "garbage" cards as the special "clerical errata" but the numbers were very limited. Anything you see in a store or online shop will be the correct version. The special set is both very rare to find and pretty expensive if you do.

Thread: Another fine addition to Munchkin

DESCRIPTION
Adding a new race (Gnome) and a new class (Bard), as well as new monsters, treasure, and the like, this is the second expansion to Munchkin. Really, need I say more?

Note: With these expansions, I tend to be the type to open the cellophane and drop the cards into the box, without looking through all of them. In that way, I can see how the expansion affects gameplay in a normal situation, rather than concentrating solely on the cards--after all, you can't play the full game with just an expansion.

WHAT'S GOOD
It's Munchkin, so what's not to like? Alright, I won't stop with just that. The Gnome and Bard additions are great (I'm glad there's just one race/class addition per expansion, though--more would be overkill). Each has its uses and of course its weaknesses. And of course you get the Hireling, which allows you to wield additional weapons with the aid of a helper character card (although I don't believe there are any bonuses applied to the hireling--this changes, I think, in The Need for Steed).

The additional monsters are lots of fun too, like the Auntie Paladin. Gotta love the bad stuff that happens on these cards!

THE BAD
This will sound silly, but it's a gripe nonetheless: My Munchkin box is getting to the point where it can't hold all of the expansions. What's that, you say? See, I got tired of sorting through all the dungeon and treasure cards, so I rubber-banded them together and set them on their sides. Obviously the box is not deep enough, so the cards cause the lid to remain aloft. This isn't so much a complaint with Clerical Errors specifically, but Munchkin in general.

As for Clerical Errors: I almost get the feeling like the difficulty was ramped up ever so slightly. It could be that with just two players (as my wife and I play) this will always be the case. Nevertheless, it wasn't a terrible detriment, and as I'll put in a session report, it's important to remember charity. (This certainly will help to balance the game and prevent it from being too one-sided.)

THOUGHTS
Each expansion adds more cards, and thus the deck grows taller every time. As I mention in THE BAD, this can cause logistical problems. I will be in the market for a large card tray soon; the game store chap said they had nothing in stock that would work for me, but suggested a 6-deck model. I'm not sure that will even be enough, as I intend to collect all of the Munchkin games and combine them all.

My wife and I have been playing with two piles of cards in each deck (so, four stacks, two each of treasure and dungeon), and simply draw from either one in turn. Given that the decks are well shuffled this really changes nothing, but we did run into some trouble when we began going with two discard piles--some cards call for rummaging through the discards and we were unsure which one to go with.

CONCLUSION
Just go buy it. Munchkin lovers know they'll have lots more fun with this expansion, and there's plenty to love. I see nothing terribly bad about the expansion, and plenty of good.

Score:

Thread: Rat on a Stick FTW!

My wife and I added Clerical Errors to our base Munchkin deck for the first time, with my streak of 3 consecutive losses at Munchkin on the line...

She drew the Gnome class, which allowed her to play a monster from her hand during combat and add that monster's level to hers for that combat. She used that several times to build a wide lead. I agree with the comment in Sparki's review that this ability makes the Gnome very powerful, even more so in the early part of the game.
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/16819

I, meanwhile, took the Orc class (which was new to us, since we don't have the Unnatural Axe expansion), which is almost useless early on as it's main benefit is to gain an extra level if you defeat a monster by more than 10 (fat chance at level 2...).

However, with her at level 7, and me at level 2, I mounted a comeback, mainly through the zealous use of curses. We then found ourselves at level 8 (her) and level 7 (me).

I drew a race card on my first draw and then went Looking for Trouble and played my Amazon (lvl 8). My wife then took her revenge for the curses I had been dropping on her by adding Kali (lvl 20) as a wandering monster. Not only is she lvl 20, but she is +5 unless you are wielding two weapons.

Miraculously, I got out of this jam by having both the Staff of Napalm (with cheat card attached) and Rat on a Stick in play to avoid the +5 bonus (is Rat on a Stick really a weapon??). I then used the Semi-Final Strike card from the new deck to triple the +5 bonus on my Staff, used two potions each with +3 bonuses and, with the Warrior class in play, beat both of them with exactly 28!

And, for defeating both monsters, I gained 1 level for the Amazon and 2 levels for Kali, moving from level 7 to level 10 and putting a sudden end to my losing streak and another bizarre and very fun game of Munchkin.

Thread: Session Report

I am the one who have more games in the collection in my game groups and indeed one of the few who had various games from Europe and United States. When a colleague went to Europe, he bought a game and when he was back in Brazil, what an opportunity he missed, he bought Munchikin and the first two expasion. I he only had asked...
Well, it was my obligation to play this again... this time with more cards, to make it even more boring and tedious. My first cards,a apocalipse duck and a monster I could not beat and two itens I could not use, great fun. I could make people fall down levels so the torture could take more time.
I confess, you can laugh with this game, in the first ten minutes. And I did. When everyone was crawling very slowly to free... I mean, the 10th level. Some back stabing ocured, all the normal for an Stave Jackson Game, except that this one is not fun.
In the end, my wife used divine intervetion to let her and other player to share the win.
It over, finally.

Thread: User Review

I really like the Munchkin series, and I bugged my poor FLGS daily for info on when this was coming out. Although I cannot say that this expansion does not add anything, ala Unnatural Axe, it adds both good and bad, and I have some mixed feelings about it. The perfectly ordinary bunny is a nice addition, basically a level 2 that has a 1:6 chance of becoming a level 15 monster, but this is determined after you ask for help and have played cards... unfortunately, the bad stuff is death, regardless of its level. That can be bad for a lowly character to die and lose the few items he/she had, but it's yet to be a problem for us.

There is a new race, called the Gnome, which is much like the Monk for Munchkin Fu, meaning you can play a monster card on yourself to give you a one-shot bonus equal to it's level. This is, of course, very powerful, and Gnome becomes the race of choice over the Elf, especially near the end of the game. This is a little more random to pull off than the the monster enhancement cards you play for Monks in MF, since you could have a weak monster, or a super-powerful one.

I've already posted about the Hungry Backpack, and what i feel should be done with it. It may be that the Epic Munchkin Rules, which I've yet to see or play with would help balance the Gnome and Backpack out, but all in all, I liked adding Munchkin 3 to my deck more than M2, because it truly did make some changes in the gameplay, added more than just funny/cute cards. It added depth and a little more strategy, with some of its monster cards having more powers than just a high level.

While I think Munchkin is very amusing, this addition has some quite unbalancing issues, mostly the Hungry Backpack. We've played at least 6 games with all 3 of the munchkin sets together, and the player who gets the Hungry Backpack Curse always loses. The first time we played, I got it when I was at level 9, with the other 4 players at levels 3 or below (I got really lucky). I lost that game. Some home rules need to be implemented with it, or it will almost assuredly ruin any game it enters. I like either A) Leave the card out, B) give it a max of 5 turns, or C)change the 'eats itself' roll to 5 or 6. The cards are still funny, cute, and amusing. It's a little pricey, but still good for a diversion when you're tired of serious strategy games.
