Thread: Re: Flyers and Stacking

Flyers always count toward the stacking limit. You're reading into it a bit too much, although I can understand how you got there. The rule is just meant point out that Flyers fly across the hexside, and thus do not count toward the hexside limit, however they do count toward stacking once they are in the hex. Flyers may not remain ("land") in a sea hex once combat is finished. Therefore, they must retreat or regroup to a land hex.

The rule for underground cities is found int he sidebar of page 4. Flyers get -1 on combat. (Mountain Folk get +1.) Forests have no effect.

Thread: Flyers and Stacking

The 2nd edition rules state that flyers count toward the staking limit when they land and that they cannot land on a sea hex.

It also states that flyers can attack aquadics on a sea hex. As I understand it (from reading other posts), the idea is that that they are flying during the battle, but must retreat or regroup to land hexs after the battle.

So does this mean that flyers are flying during every battle, and therefor do not count toward the stacking limit during any battle?

- Also -

Can flyers attack under ground cities?

Do forrests provide some cover from flyers?

If yes to either of the questions above, then does that apply to the wizard as well? (It kind of seems the wizard should be capable of both flight and ground movement)

Just some thoughts .. let me know yours.

Thread: Re: Scenerio Suggestions

Barbarian Raid is a good 2-player scenario. It uses Map 16 and Barbarian and Amazon armies. It is fairly well balanced, although the victory conditions differe for each side. The Viking gives the Barbarians perhaps the slightest advantage.

If An Orc Dies In The Forest, Does Anyone Care? is another good 2-player scenario. This one is found in the file you downloaded. The Orc player must be smart and plan well to win this one. The Elves have most of the advantages.

Neutral Buffer Zone is another favorite, although it may be a bit more lengthy/complex than you are looking for at first. This one is also found in the downloaded file.

These scenarios are ones I recommend and are good in my opinion, but you may not agree. So far, I really haven't found any scenarios I didn't have fun playing, personally, but I really like the game.
Thread: Scenerio Suggestions

I'm new to WK and so far have played two partial games, mostly to learn the rules. Can anyone make a suggestion for a good two player scenerio (I did not care for the island of the dead scenerio). I'm looking for a scenerio that does not take too long to play, but that will highlight the game system and will leave me wanting to play more.

I have the maps included with the second edition base set (13-16?). I've also purchased 4 hero and treasure expansions, so I have a little variety in units, but there is probably not enough to support some of the more elaborate scenerios I've seen.

Eventually I plan to try many of the scenerios, however its important that I get a good one up front. My wife is my primary game partner and she will only play a couple of sub par scenerios before decidiing that this game isn't for her. (and I want her to like it, because I know I do).

Thanks for your suggestions.

Thread: Suggestions for treasure shortage

I've recently purchased WK 2nd edition with 2 expansions. As a result, I do not have enough treasure to distribute among the seven different armies.

I kind of like the variable expansions with the exception of the treasure blocks. It seems to me the treasure blocks play an important role in the game (especially with the gold spending rules of the 2nd edition) and should be included in the base set (at least one silver block per army to start).

I'm sure eventually I will pick up more expansions and this will all work itself out.

Until then, does anyone have any suggestions of how to mimic the treasure block capabilities without using the actual treasure blocks?

Thanks

Wizards may cast spells during the MOVEMENT or COMBAT phases (or both). They can only cast one spell per Move Phase and cannot move unless they are the object of the spell.

My interpretation is that wizards may move normally on the map or cast a spell. Wizards may cast a spell *and* move only if they cast a spell on themselves which is causes them to move.

Thread: Re: Artifacts question

It is in there, but i think only in the 2.0 rules. Anyway the weapons would make any unit the lvl of the weapon, and I believe that if a weapon is used a step is lost. so a C1 unit could become a B3 unit if it was using a B3 weapon. The artifacts allow units to cast spells. in the upper right corner is a roman numeral on each artifact. That is the highest level of spell that that artifact can cast. And again each use the artifact loses a step.

hope this helps and is correct.

rdk

Must be in the rules somewhere... which I don't have here.

I do remember something about the artifact attaching to any unit. The attack step of the artifact can then be used instead of the units own. Each use will reduce the artifact one step.

If I'm right about these rules the artifacts makes most sense attached to cheap units.

Thread: Re: Gold production and Build Question

The rules may not state it explicitly, but they do say that after 3 rounds of combat (which happens any time pieces of different sides share an hex at the end of the movement phase) either the defender has been killed (or forced to retreat) or the attacker has to retreat. So I don't see how pieces of different sides can share an hex after the combat phase...

Thread: Re: Columbia's Scenario pdf. 1.x? or 2.0?

I agree, a scenario may not be unplayable just because it has the ferking army, but I'm trying to determine what ruleset is supposed to be used with each scenario. In the case of the scenarios using the ferkin army, my guess is they were done with the 1.x ruleset in mind. While it's possible to make a 2.0 scenario that uses the ferkins, I think it's unlikely this was the case, especially since other scenarios are clearly 1.x

Anyway, if you've played any of those scenarios under 2.0 without modifications and they work fine, then feel free to edit those pages in the wiki. It'd be nice to solve this confusion...

<strike>Thanks, that clears things up a tad.</strike> OK I guess I don't get it. Where in the rules does it say that only one nation may be on a city at a time at the beginning of the build phase? I will look through the rules on this more tonight, but I guess I could use some help.

Thanks again

rdk

maka wrote:
Ok. After looking more closely at al the scenarios, these are the ones that seem to be 1.x for sure:

* Civil War (Talks about the "gold reserve" which AFAIK is from 1.x)
* Revolt (Uses the Ferkin)
* Siege of Neya (Specifies the use of 1.6 rules)
* Surprise Attack (Chris Farrell adapted this v1 scenario as Assault on the Borderland/s for 2.0)
* Thragonia for Three (Mentions stacking limits from 1.x rules)
* Total War (Uses the Ferkin)

In the rest I don't see signs of belonging to either 1.x or 2.0 and haven't played them so I don't know how well they play with either version. I've classified them as possibly working with 1.6 and maybe 2.0 and they appear as a third category on the wiki...

As far as the Ferkin go, I don't think a scenario would be unusable simply on those grounds alone.

There's nothing stopping you from using Ferkins in version 2.0, although they're at some disadvantage compared to other races. Or you can just substitute the Fuedal army for the Ferkins.

Correct - production happens after movement & combat is resolved, so a city will have units of only one side in it, or it will be empty (empty cities on non-home maps must be garrisoned to produce gold for the conqueror - they revert back to the side they began the game with (or neutral) if left empty.

Thread: Re: Scenario Balance Issue -- REVOLT! BY: CHRIS FARRELL

Yes, the Revolt scenario assumes 1.x Castles (C4) and Wizards (A+).

You probably realize this, but just to clarify for other readers:

The version 1.x Dwarven Low Guards are C1 Mountain Folk.

(I very much dislike the City Folk ability in 2.0. It makes holding a city too easy, and it makes such units pretty much a requirement for attacking a city.)
