Thanks, Joe. You are right based on the rule you stated. I missed it the first time I read it. I don't believe the last portion of that text was in the printed rules.

Thread: Re: Cavalry Question

I think your answer is right there in the Key Concept: if it's a Confederate city liberated from Union oppression by Confederate cavalry, loyalty to the Confederacy causes it to revert to Confederate control, even when subsequently vacated (until such time as the Union occupies it again).

Joe,

Your answer seems consistent with the printed rules. However, it is still unclear in the text of your 3.1 version what to do when a space has already been converted by enemy infantry. Obviously, a marker is placed there when the enemy infantry leaves the space to denote the conversion of ownership. When a friendly cavalry moves into the space it immediately converts back to friendly. But what happens when the cavalry leaves? If no friendly infantry enters the same space and it was most recently controlled by the enemy, won't it revert back to an enemy space when the friendly cavalry leaves?

I hope my text above isn't too hard to follow.

Thread: Re: Cavalry Question

From Alan Emrich's version 3.1 rules (Section 8):

"Cavalry units alone (without infantry units) control a box only while they occupy it. The instant they completely vacate it, control reverts back to the box’s original color (i.e., . A player must bring in (or recruit) a friendly Infantry at that box in order to place a Control marker there and maintain ownership.
Key Concept: Cavalry ‘raids’ deep into enemy territory thus maintain only tenuous control. However, Cavalry raids into enemy-controlled friendly territory will convert those spaces back to their natural (friendly) color."

I'm not sure how this compares to the printed rules, but according to this version, the Confederate city reverts to Confederate (the original COLOR), and that seems sensible.

Thread: Cavalry Question

I apologize for the re-post of this to those who have already read and discarded it. Since I didn't get any kind of response I figured many of you missed my question so I thought I would post again to make it fresh in the forum.

I know that cavalry only temporarily converts ownership of a city while it occupies the space. When it leaves, the space reverts back to original ownership.

What happens in the following example? A Union infantry unit enters an empty Confederate city, ends it's turn there and converts it to Union. On a later turn the Union infantry leaves the space and it remains in Union control. Then a Condfederate cavalry unit moves in. Will the city remain Union if the Confederate cavalry leaves? Or will it revert back to Confederate since it was originally Confederate?
