Thread: 7 players 6 to 89

We had bits and pieces of our extended family over. Our 6 year-old grandson, our teen daughter & her boyfriend, our 20 something daughter, my wife and I, and my 89 year-old mother-in-law. What other game covers all that territory and is a lot of fun?

This was the first game of Apples to Apples for our grandson and my mother-in-law, but that doesn't matter; just start playing and they join in. The two of them weren't quite sure what to make of it and the teen boyfriend hadn't gamed with us before, so he's not quite sure what to make of us. But, the crazy combinations of words just start rolling and soon everyone is giggling. As the judge role moves around the table, players starts getting a little more involved in having their words chosen, so there are cheers and groans as the judge picks his/her choice of best word. Then my mother-in-law just starts giggling and can't really stop. She has a red card of "Pick your nose" and she can't get over it. Everyone gets at least one green card and boyfriend wins.

The group wants to play again. I was a little reluctant, because I know this game is best if left wanting more and before it wears out its welcome. But, we play one more.

Now the lobbying for answers gets a little more blatant. My mother-in-law is whispering in my grandson's ear to pick her answers. The giggling, cheering, and groaning continue (though slightly lessened)as answers are read and chosen. Boyfriend wins again, but the rest of us all have some green cards.

We all step away from the table talking about the game and wanting to play again the next time we're together.

Pretty amazing -- that diverse of ages and yet a barrel of fun together.
