Thread: Odd number of fences

There are 35 fence pieces in the game. Players always play two fences at a time. I suppose the odd fence is just a reserve? Are you allowed to use this last fence by only playing that single fence? The rules do not mention this.

I like it for 2. (Haven't played with 4, and I think I only played with 3 once, though.)

I played it yesterday with two and it works very well. A bit dry but short enough to remain fun

Thread: Session Report

Nuggets was next, the new Christwart Conrad game. I was partnered with Ken, identified as the "Nuggets shark" since he'd played several times before. I liked the game again on my second playing (not hurt by the fact that the shark and I demolished our opponents, letting them take only two out of however many gold mines there were on the board).

Here's the way the game works: You've got an 8x5 board onto which prizes of various values are scattered -- the "gold mines." You've got little fence segments which, if that's what you choose to do with your turn, you place two of, so that eventually the board is going to be partitioned up into separate areas to be won which may or may not have any gold mines in it, no area allowed to be smaller than 4 squares. The other thing you can choose to do with your turn is play one of your number chips (with four players, you get five 1s, a 2, a 3, and a 4) face down into an empty square. This creates an interesting dilemma in that you want to grab the good squares for your numbers before somebody beats you to them, but you can't be sure which squares ARE the good squares while the partitioning is still incomplete.

I do think this is a very clever, very playable "small" game in the 20-30-minute range, not a main course, but for a side dish something you can actually chew on.
