Thread: Session Report

Again with Goldsieber Fun Games series, this quick recognition game is simply SOLCHE STROLCHE for adults. Lots of brightly colored irregular shapes, flip a card, first person to stab the shape(s) on the card with their index finger gets it and places it in front of them. Essentially, you have two "stabbers" (assuming you have two hands) and two-three shapes appear on each card. Naturally, shapes appear on more than one card... so you can *steal* shapes from your opponents by stabbing them before they do. First player to 8 shapes wins the round... score one for each shape you've got and +4 for winning the round. Play as many rounds as there are players.

Not content to burn your mind in this manner? You can use the back side of the shapes (all black) or the back side of the cards (just their shadows) or the frames the shapes were punched out of (either colored or black) to mess with your brain even more. My wife LOVES this game.

I'd give it an 8... it's up there with ARRIBA in sheer party animal fun.
Thread: Session Report

This party game from Goldsieber (out of their "Fun Games" line) got a real workout this weekend... I personally played it 3 or 4 times, and know it got played more than that.

This is not rocket science, people... 36 oddly shaped, brightly colored pieces are scattered about the playing surface. One player turns up cards from a deck and players madly stab the pieces on the cards with their index fingers. Cards captured by players are placed in front of them... and are fair game if they appear on the card again. The first player to 7 (or 8) pieces ends the round and gets a 4 pt bonus + the number of pieces they captured. Everyone else gets the number of pieces they captured. Play as many rounds as players. That's it.

It's a lot of fun in a frenetic kind of fashion... if you don't like SOLCHE STROLCHE/BARNYARD CRITTERS or SET, stay away.

Mark Jackson 37
Kim Berg 15
Kayla Berg 7

Mark Jackson 40
Kim Berg 28
Ariel Douds 14
Kayla Berg 13

Rating: 7 (very playable, easy to teach, possible to make more difficult by turning pieces and/or cards over *or* by using the frames the pieces came in!)
Thread: Session Report

Nick, Garth, Rick, Fleur, Veronica. It's Barnyard Critters, but with random shapes, and 3 shapes get raced for on each turn. Garth won. He got off to a flyer gaining three of the first 5 shapes. Nick and Fleur slowly caught him up by taking a couple of his shapes. Veronica and Rick were having trouble seeing things at first with everybody's arms getting in the way - you must put your finger on the shape to win it and this then obscures peoples view for finding the remaining shapes. Rick and Veronica managed to close the gap on the leaders when Garth found his 7th shape to win the game. By mid way through the game Rick had discovered a strategy/cheat to the game. The backing side of the cards have 3 different shapes. If you look closely, they actually match the shapes that will be revealed when the card is turned face up. A design flaw? Not necessarily- sometimes they match, sometimes they don't. In fact you can play variants using the black & white side or the coloured side.

Scores: Garth 7, Veronica and Rick 5, Fleur 4, Nick 3

Personally, I was glad I had the opportunity after the first turn to move to the other gaming table.
