Thread: Re: replacement ammunition?

The new editions of Chinese Checkers, at least here in the US and Mexico are now avoiding glass marbles, they either use wood pegs or plastic marbles. The plastic marbles are good (multicolor) replacements.

You can generally find them here in thrift stores for about 99 cents. A perfect and economic option.

Thread: Re: replacement ammunition?

The game had light plastic hollow marbles as ammunition. Glass marbles would be too dangerous (you're shooting at each others formations/buildings with the opposing player right behind his/her stuff. As it is, you have to keep your eye on the shot otherwise you might lose an eye!

I suggest looking for light plastic hollow balls at Michael's or some other craft store.

Thread: replacement ammunition?

I found a set with many of the pieces, but with no ammunition. Is there any good replacement that can be used? What about marbles, or are they too heavy?

Thx!

mark

Thread: Session Report

Jeez, the first game session report since 2001! ROFL

I have a rather large bookshelf full of games I have owned over the years that rarely gets touched as I don't find the games very good. However our house has become one of the "Kool-aid" houses and kids like to come over to play either my PS2 or my Xbox. They also like to pull out a board game on occasion. One of them came over on this particular day and I pointed him to the shelf and said, "Take your pick". This is the game he chose...

First (since it had sat for about 10 years) we had to replace MOST of the rubber bands that had all solidified and broke like spaghetti. After that was done we set up the battlefield.

I was the attacker and he was the defender.

In two shots he took out my general. One thing I note with this game is how impossible it is to get the general of the defender (He is behind a door in a building which is BEHIND another castle wall) but the general of the attacker is right there in the middle with no protection.

Anyone with my general gone I was down to rolling 1 die while he was rolling two ever time.

I never even stood a chance... In 20 minutes he eventually finally shot down the last of my guys while I sat there STILL trying to get at his general. In 5 minutes the outcome of the battle could easily be predicted... I just had to wade through another 15 minutes of boredom for him to finally get it done...

Thread: Session Report

I picked up a few boxes of this game at a local toy store when they went on clearance from their ridiculously high (relatively speaking, for what you get) original MSRP. They sat in our game closet for almost a year until three of my friends came across it and finally asked what the deal was. I really hadn't even opened them up, and we had a boring evening ahead of us so we ripped the boxes open and looked in amazement at the extreme coolness factor the product had.

After glancing over the rules, we took out all the parts and started setting them up. The "rules" are so obvious that even a little kid will know what they are without even reading a single word: WIN! Shoot the cannonballs, knock stuff over, don't get knocked over yourself. Win.

Needless to say, the evening was a lot of fun. I had at least two Castle Siege sets, so each pair of us had a home base and an away team to play with. I'm pretty sure you could still find at least a dozen of those cannonballs hiding in various nooks and crannies at my old apartment! It's hard for me to say this is a real game, but whether you call it a game or simply a toy, it is a lot of fun!

Thread: User Review

When I saw this game at K-B toys I had to have it. Wife wouldnt let me. The it went on markdown to $5. I got it. The star fort and the castle siege sets. Wanted the pirate one too but it was long gone. There just isnt enough pirate games...

Just for the bits this is as cool as they come. On top of that its an honest to goodness game. When I have kids over they love to play this game. I can even entertain myself with them. Face it, the kids are going to be just as good as you are in this dexterity fest.

The play goes like this. Set up the mechanics. Latch all the rubber bands into place. Then place your men onto the predsignated areas. You then roll some dice. Their total allows you a certian number of actions. The actions allow you to move spaces or to fire shots or some combination using the number present from your roll.

Victory is achieved by last man standing or killing the general. Which ever comes first. Each area to attack has a different level of difficulity to acheive a sucessful hit. You just keep blasting away. Even my wife appreciates this level of gaming. The kid in all of us bubbles out. The real kids never want to stop playing!

I just love owning this series. Army men in a game that uses a medievil theme. For me it doesnt get any niftier. The box alone is a conservation piece. Male and female alike, that is if your not totally embarresed by owing it! Lets face it. Its pure toy!

Thread: Session Report

the deep strategic challenge known as "Weapons and Warriors" (CharlesP & JohnH vs. KenT &ChrisF) : did it make your brains hurt?

RayT: "I'm curious how this went -- I just picked up the "Pirate Battle Set" version from KB for $9.99. I've seen some "Power Catapult expansion"s going for cheap as well. I found this Crossbows/Catapults clone to be a little harder to use."

ChrisF: "This is a game of shooting little plastic balls at your opponent's targets. Good thing we all were wearing glasses. First one to hit a complete set of opponent's targets wins. I really wanted to like this game, and kinda did. But there do seem to be some rather serious issues: the side with the multiple little strongpoints with hair-triggers (one shot takes them all out) seems to be at a huge disadvantage against the much more secure castle. And the guns seem to take impossibly precise hits to trigger.

Great concept but possibly flawed execution. Not sure if there is a physical solution to some of the components. I'd try again, but I'd be less optimistic "
