Thread: MIG 23 - Typo?

Hi there,

just got this nice little game & I wonder if the air-to-air value of the MIG 23-counter is a typo - "14" is just fantasy compared to the other planes & I think "4" should be correct.

Greetings,
Jens

Thread: Sweden Punnks out again!!!!!

Bad inital set up for NATO forces as they did not get the commando or Canada forces during the inital reinforcements preparation phase. I did my ususal deployment for the USSR concentrating the 45th division along the road at hex 1905 and the 54th division I split to deploy them along the roads at hex 2513 and 3715.
The inital turns went well for the USSR. Avaioncs ratings were low and the inital partroop drops on hexes 0917 and 0820. Both drops succeeded thanks to some lucky die rolls. The Finns decided to resist invasion and the skillful deployment of them by the NATO player held me up from my invasion of Sweden (although, for the upteemth time, Sweden did not fight! I landed the USSR amphibious troops on the peninsula containing hex 0514 to assist my airborne troops. The USSR took some heavy casulaties in Finland, more than I expected. Althought I did win the game, I noticed a tactic that I had not considered before and shall have to try next time. The leapfrogging of Soviet airborne troops from airfield to airfield would definetly change the color of the game. As it was, I muscled my way through since NATO did not get too creative and I also benefited from a failed counterattack that wiped out the US 2nd Marines. OUCH! Hopefully I will have more details in my next session report on this game which will occur this weekend.

Thread: Quick Comments

The game features battalion-sized ground units and squadron-sized air units. The Soviet player has considerable forces at his disposal (several divisions-worth of motorized infantry with limited oversnow vehicles; plus amphibious, airborne, helicopter-borne infantry and a huge airforce) but is severely constrained by supply considerations. Each motorized division requires its own road for supply - and there are only two, assuming you decide to transit arctic Finland (which hopefully won't upset them or the Swedes too much), otherwise its down to one! The Soviets are working against the clock to sieze and hold the Norwegian airbases in the face of a mobilising norwegian army and powerful but variable NATO reinforcements. Not to mention the arctic weather. And if you think it will help, you could always invade Finland and Sweden to get a bit more maneuvering room. An excellent game!
