Don't know where this idea came from but I don't think it's been visited before. Lots of lists about block games, but this one is going to focus on games where blocking your opponent(s) can be a key tactic. Please feel free to add.

The first time I played this game, I wasn't focusing on messing with my opponents, I wanted to fit my pieces. My husband on the other hand royaly screwed me several times and before I knew it, I was pretty much blocked.

I did the same thing. I was trying to fit all my large pieces in my own little corner... all happy :) - then *snik* (the sound the piece makes when it fits) - another player blocks me from expanding. Suddenly my happy little corner is looking claustrophobic.. :soblue: and I was rushing to find another opening somewhere.

I like to fit my pieces, my wife likes to block the crap out of my pieces. She wins more often than not.

With 3 players and only one route allowed between cities, it is very easy to be blocked out of a city.

On the TTR forums, there continues to be a raging debate about whether blocking just to block (taking a route you don't need just to screw another player) is a valid and honorable tactic.

Most people agree that this is completely valid.

Area enclosure games in general I think lead to blocking and messing with opponent's plans.
Bill Eldard

You don't have to enclose an area to block; just running a caravan past an oasis or watering hole can block opponents. Blocking is a key tactic in the bame.

Though this usually hurts the two players doing this when a sneaky third player ends up going between the paired caravans to grab the points!

Yep. One of the 'nastiest' of plays in Through The Desert. :D

Not blocking per se.

You can sub-divide another person's territory, or even displace them from a territory if you have the right cards.

We had this game hanging around the game group for ages before giving it a try.

When we did, it was to universal approval!

It's an excellent game, with a really interesting auction mechanic. I imagine it works best with 5 or 4 (not up to much with 3 I'd have thought)

And yes ... there is some blocking, as my camel often get surrounded

:)

:p Sorry "Twixter", but I've got it on GREAT 'authority' from 'Bon' himself-and from beyond the 'grave' no less-that HE "would not FIGHT!" using 'Dynamite'! He wasn't any good at affixing those pesky 'caps' or fuses, while "Det-Cord" scared the dying shat outta him! Yes, I have the 'Deluxe' "Ouija" board and mine goes up to '11' and has 'Maybe' with an extra 'notation' of "Oi!" on it too. Sometimes them 'written lyrics' get a few things 'wrongly' on them, while 'Bon' likes "Twixt", although he can't decide if it's a "candybar with a cookie inside" or "a cookie wrapped within a candybar". Curiouser & curiouser...and don't get HIM 'started' about "Certs"!

We used to play this a whole lot back in 6th form during free periods (for all non british people thats college) and invariably the very 1st build move would be for someone to completely encircle london in track, its possible that this is a standard tactic in train games (i wouldnt really know i only ever played 3 different ones) but it eventually became so prolific that it became bad form to try anything like that and anyone doing it got bemoaned at excessivly till they relented and erased and rethought the move.

I made my own Hive set and decided to bring one opponent's tiles "back in black".

Twixt is another example, with much more varied tactics, sort of like Hex at high speed.

Nuts, I thought this was going to be about block games. Nice title, though.

(So, with this, and your Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap list, does that mean we can expect to see a You Shook Me All Night Long list about dice games?)

Actually Rusty, the thought had crossed my mind! Personally, I like dice and I know there are quite a few dice games available for the listing, but I just checked past geeklists and I think the dice thing has been pretty well covered.

Have you searched games based on the dice mechanic? Crazy!

Stick with AC/DC songs and I'm sure you can have a lot of fun.

She's got the jack..................plenty of card games.
Whole lotta rosie...................I'm sure Busen Memo would quickly get added to this list.
TNT.................................Explosions and the like.
Back in Black.......................Black game pieces.
Jail break...............................escape from style games.
