This is the traditional weekly thrift and bargain finds list.
These lists may start empty, but as always, add your items.
Put in what you consider a bargain, tell us how much you paid and the place you got it from. Bargains can be thrift store finds or any second-hand purchases or discounted boardgames bought new. Don't forget to add your encounters with the Thrift Store Irritant Squad and any other embellishments in order to make it even more interesting.
The Thrift Store/Bargain Finds List Wayback Machine: The Grand Vizier is maintaining a list of all the weekly lists through time. He is also adding stats and interesting tidbits for us thrifty geeks. Your Thrift Store Bargain Finds Through Time (with links to all previous lists)
Our GeekGuild: Welcome to The Ancient and Loyal Order of Thrifters. Enter the halls of thriftdom at your own risk. Please do mind the stacks of prized games, do not mention the musty smell and try not to sneeze. Make sure to bow before our King Belial I, and pay your due respects to previous Kings Great_Mazinga, minionhunter, Krazygit, EvilTimmy and Blackwind.
The Order's Anthem: Sing along with our good old thrifty theme song...
And that may be my last thrifting for the week. 6-15 inches of the white stuff headed our way. And while that's not much for some of you -- we normally get 2-3 inches all winter. People here just DO NOT KNOW how to cope with this.
I expect local stores will be out of milk and bread right about... now!
$3.25, new in shrink at Goodwill in Williamsburg, VA.
Also picked up DVONN new in shrink for $3.25 and a 1968 3M Bookshelf edition of Acquire in almost mint condition for $4.25. Major score! There was also a copy of Wits & Wagers there, but we passed it up.
edit: Following the suggestion, I made individual geeklist entries for DVONN and Acquire.
I was at Goodwill, and bought this, as I was looking for a box for my PnP copy of 1886. It was in lousy condition, but it's big enough. The cashier ignored all price tags and charged me $1 a item, which was a good deal.
This too at Goodwill for a dollar because I don't have a working smartphone and vaguely remembered it as listed as a decent game. I haven't checked to see whether all the pieces are there yet. I now see the 'Geek hasn't rated this highly, but it doesn't look like too horrendous a game.
I left, then I stopped and ran back into that Goodwill right before it closed to grab this. The way I see it, it's 360 plastic miniatures (or so it says on the box, and it looks like they're at worst mostly there) for $1, or 0.3 cents a miniature.
Picked this up at Salvation Army today for $2. I love dice, and so I couldn't pass it up. Complete, and there were even two extra red d6s with bright white dots with "Sam's Town" on the 'one' side and a one letter and 3 digit code on the 'six side.' I have no idea what any of that means.
Since there is hardly any information in the database on this one, I'll have to take some pics and upload them and then figure out how to add or submit information once I learn about it.
The picture of this one is different, but we got it today at Salvation Army for $3.50. A few of the little pegs are broken, but other than that it seems to be complete. All the ships and planes are there, and my son is extremely excited about this one!
Not much to show for my four store run today. I thought this was pretty cool though: 007 for $1.99 at Goodwill. Great condition and it appears to be complete, but like many games from this era, they failed to include a parts list. The first Bond movie was Dr. No in 1962. This game was published in 63.
Do you ever find something that hints at an entirely foriegn sub-culture? This little box of pewter figures and collectible cards had that effect on me. Ten cards and ten corresponding figures. I've got no idea how the game is played, but the detail on the minitures is good and I can fool myself into thinking that I'll paint them someday. $.99 @GW.
Are these more common than I thought or am I a magnet for them? I never saw this in my first 4 months thrifting and just picked up my third in as many weeks. Guess I can finally have that Battleball tournament after all.
Not complete like the others I've found. This one's missing a red die, some carnage tokens and the metal ball.
