This is one poor game. I played it about 3 times when I was younger and shelved it due to the extremely basic gameplay (Spin and move).

I remember going to the toy shop several times, looking at the game description at the back of the box and resisting buying it. I probably eventually asked my mum to buy it due to the sheer lack of other available games at that time.

I got this game at a garage sale this summer! I got it for the potential collectibility factor -- but it doesn't really look like it has any value. I'm thinking I'm just going to throw it away, perhaps after salvaging any interesting bits.

Dude, don't throw it out! If it's in good condition, take to a vintage games shop, as it would probably be worth some decent scratch!

Came across the Bionic woman game the other day. Passed on that. Part of the reason my collection bloomed out of control was I thought some might be collectibles. Most of the time they become trashibles.

Purchased because A.) I'm a fan of Lone Wolf and Cub and B.) it was cheap at KB Toys.

When we first played it, the combat was so busted I thought surely I was misunderstanding it. Of course, in those days there was no BGG, so I had nowhere to turn to find out.

Years later, I learn on BGG that the combat system is indeed busted, and the game ridiculously lethal. Ah, well.

Hahaha -

Seeing this reminds me of the time we worked Origins for Mayfair. There were two copies of this game for sale. They had had the same two copies of this dog for quite a while and were eager to get rid of them. (I think this was so they did not have to lug them home!) So the guy in charge told us that if we could sell them, there would be a prize for the person who succeeded.

My hubby - who was selling commerical insurance at the time - managed to put lipstick on those pigs and sold both within the first four hours.

His prize: Manhattan!

We also received a Hans in Gluck version of Tigris and Euphrat, a German Settler of Catan plus several smaller games as payment for working that weekend. My hubby was a game selling machine!

I sold my copy a number of years back... but, if I remember correctly, there was a crucial paragraph missing from the rules. One sentence ended abruptly and left you hanging... I had to write the publisher for clarification.

Hilarious attempt at game design. The errata are double the length of the rules and raise as many problems as they solve. Since it's a solitaire game, you can make up the rules as you go along, but isn't that what they pay designers for? I'm not proud to admit that I played the hell out of this game before I grew up and wised up. Abysmal.

This was one of the first dedicated solitaire wargames ever, so I'm willing to cut them a fair bit of slack for the errata. Everyone whose worst game in their collection was one that they played the hell out of could call themselves lucky.

The re-edition (in the late 90s) worked much better to be sure.

Played once with my son. Brutal. I will play Candyland 100 times a day before I will play this garbage.

Dumbest endgame ever. You have to complete 3 "quests" to win. One involves making 3 oddly shaped cards into a house. It took me and my son 15+ minutes to complete this one, and I cheated and leaned it up against something...

I forget the other ones, but this one was by far the hardest & dumbest.

I just finished it with my son. I was amazed when my son turned those 3 cards into a house immediately!!!!!
He put the 2 cards against each other like a teepee so the points were against each other on top. He then put the third card on top and stuck the points thru the hole in the middle of the card. He is 6.
I don't see the game as any worse than Candyland, Sorry etc. The only challenge was getting the armor on in 15 seconds. It's bad but no worse than similar games.

This game has great bakelite tiles. I mean really great.

However, I've never really understood the 'game' hidden in there unless it's just getting the pieces back in the box.

My wife ordered it after reading a newspaper article about the designer. The game has now become something we pour out onto the floor when the younger crowd comes around and want to 'play' with something puzzle-like.

I became obsessed with owning this, paid too much on ebay and then couldn't wait to try it. I played it solo a few times and then with some friends. We found it to be incredibly difficult to win (which is a challenge to some) and totally devoid of strategy. It went back on ebay and out of my life.

The one thing that remains? When I played with friends and selected a "slee-ping drag-on" tile I would sing (to the tune of the "Salad Shooter" commercial jingle) "Sleeping Dragon!"

Yep. That about says it all.

No, by far this is one of my favorite games in my collection. There may be strategy games... there may be cooperative games... but there are so few games with the utter glee of watching someone else's imminent demise. In *most* games, finding the dragon's hoarde in the middle of the board is winning the game. But in this game, in which you only have so many turns to gather treasure, you may end up trapped in the center, fighting for the title, Richest Corpse in the Dungeon...!

I have to disagree and say this is one of my favorite games. I became obsessed with owning a copy, bought it on eBay with both expansions (though missing minis) and tried it with my friends. I thought they'd hate it, instead they loved it! It's super fast and just a huge laugh. If you have to take a game seriously then this isn't for you, but if you like a fun, light game then you'll enjoy it.

Have to also disagree. First thing I explained to my kids and their friends when I taught them this game is "don't expect anyone to win". One guy won't play it any more. But it is big bragging rights if you make it out and win.

Oh, this one is bad, real bad. The concept is fine for the "party Game" idea. The question came out of the 1950's. It was like all women love the kitchen and all men love fixing cars. This is a game that George and Barbra Bush would play while drinking lemonade and watching "Make Way For Daddy", Awful, so many much better games out there in the party format.

Now, I like Magic. So why do I call it the worst game in my collection? Because I only ever bought two decks. Do you know how lame magic is when all you and your opponent have is barely enough cards for two hands? And since they are a random assortment of cards, you can't even do any deckbuilding...you always end up with a terrible mana base and mediocre cards that do nothing to work together. Most games, the winner is the person whose land cards actually matched the color of a creature in their hand, letting them beat their opponent to death with a raging goblin or something equally boring.

Ah well. I thought about buying more decks so I could have some more fun with it, but then my common sense told me to save my money and move on to other games. Magic can be fun when you have lots of cards to work with (I know from the few times I've played with people who had more cards), but I just didn't want to develop a habit that expensive.

You can actually have loads of fun with about $20 worth of cards from Ebay. Just look for big lots of commons and uncommons -- there are so many people looking to dump cards that they're willing to practically give them away, even though many commons and uncommons are great.

Did no one else read this: "I only ever bought two decks...you and your opponent have is barely enough cards for two hands..."

Just to let you know, you bought two booster packs, not two decks. Dude, that's like buying three minis for the Risk board game and thinking you have the actual game of Risk. Sorry man, but Magic is a top notch game, regardless of what you think of the marketing system. Try buying some real decks and then give it another try.

Also, I second the guy who said $20 of commons on ebay. You can get like 500 cards for that if you're playing a penny deck.

I consider MTG one of the better games in my collection. I don't get to play anymore as I can't find people to play or if I do they take the game too serious. Yes it does take some money to purchase cards but when you can play three games in 30-45 min. it makes a good quick game. Over the years I've collected over 30,000 cards and the one thing that made this game so interesting to was the deck building. (collection of 655 decks built). I don't play in tournaments because of people who take the game too serious. I just like playing with friends and family who just want to play a quick and fun game. Best place to purchase cards is on EBAY and purchase the cards in lots because it lets you have enough cards to build and edit decks that you own.

With the right group is right! I had several friends over to play Cranium Wow You're Good (which is supposedly for the special edition for adults or something) and I couldn't get them to focus on even playing the blasted game AT ALL xD End result, people fought over possession of the sculpting clay and that was about it (that fight ended with a death of one of my folding chairs, by the way)

Wow, massive Cranium hate. I've probably played this more than any other game in my collection. I bought Turbo and a Booster pack. Everyone has a great time playing. I constantly wish for more people to play some heavier games with, but you people sound like as much fun as a funeral.

I agree that Cranium isn't entirely a bad game. I also don't think it's really a board game. Much like Trivial Pursuit and its ilk, the game is fine, but the board is unnecessary. It's by no means perfect, but I've usually had a good time when I've played it.

Even as a party game, it goes down fast. After playing it a handful of times almost a decade ago, I can still remember some of the answers to the questions--and there's so few cards in the box that the same questions come up over and over.

What is worse is that I was looking for this for about a year. I finally found it on German Ebay and paid the crazy shipping and handling for it.

Sometimes, I'm an idiot.

Easily the worst game I still own.

Why is it so:

It's what I like to call "A game of Group Go Fish for an HOUR AND A HALF"

"Anyone got any bushes? Okay...throw that down then.
Anyone got any handshakey things? No? Oh darn...that will be bad then when we flip this or roll that"

*yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwn*

What made me buy it:

You people. I blame you.

"One of the most important and wondrous achievements in gaming history. An enduring masterpiece of blahblahblah..."

It's crap. There are no decisions. There's no point. You win, you lose, who cares. A complete waste of time.

Agreed on the table talk. If you allow players to converse freely, this does turn into go-fish. Like any resource management game it only works if there is some level of uncertainty. Players MUST keep their hands hidden and secret, even though they are on the same team, or else this game is trivial.

I'm afraid I'm one of those "few" people who really love this game.

I can understand why many die-hard board gamers (no pun intended) would not care for it, though. The concept of cooperating with other players to achieve the objective, rather than competing against them, runs counter to the overwhelming majority of games out there, (RPGs excepted). I've found it usually takes a couple of plays before new folks 'get it' and begin thinking outside the conventional game wisdom box, which is exactly what it takes to achieve a win in Lord of the Rings. As others have already noted, there is an element of chance in the game, but the final outcome has much more to do with HOW a group plays together than with the chance element itself.

Played occasionally, I find Lord of the Rings to be quite a refreshing change from other, more traditional board games.

Well I got this as a present. Its only value was in getting a few geekgold for taking pictures of it. A terrible excuse for an educational game. Flip a card over and race your opponent to tie the knot pictured. Get an arbitrary number of points per knot. Too bad there's no hangman's noose card, that would be pretty useful for bringing the game to a close.

Less a game than a box that had a board and a few counters shipped in it. Oh, and a sheaf of rules. It's very educational. You learn that if you ever get lost in the wilderness you shouldn't worry because you'll probably die of thirst before a bear or a deer(yes!) eats you. I bought it because it was about five dollars and I thought it would be funny to have the worst game AH ever made.

Ughhh. Forget astronaut or big business in this one. You get to choose careers such as "supermom" and "fashion designer". Sample question: tell us the names of your 8 children. Very disturbing.

Plus, all the rules are dumbed down. Now that I think about it, I should torch it before someone finds out I own it. Might get kicked out of the OIQ.

Ooh, I'd almost managed to forget about this game. When I was about 8, my mother and I were in a store wandering through the games section. I wanted to get the game Mousetrap since I liked building things (Legos, Tinkertoys, etc.), and that looked fun for it. But my mother said that she thought Mousetrap was too "childish" (keep in mind I was well under the age of 10 at this point) and too "for boys" and thought she should get me Careers for Girls instead. I'm suprised to see that this game was published in 1990; its ideas about the careers girls should aspire for is backwards enough to put it at 1890.

This game falls into a category I call, "horrifically campy". The fact that it was released in 1990 is unbelievable, and let's be honest, deeply saddening.

But your mom was right in the fact that "childish" is often synonymous with "for boys"

Yeah, this is an incomplete game marketed simply for profit before the complete game (called the Trilogy Edition) was published. I played this with my pilot friend who loves Risk games, and he was ticked off because the game ended so prematurely on such a random end game element. We never played it again. I did pay again to get the Trilogy Edition (fool me twice...) and was much more pleased.

This is my lowest-ranked game on the 'geek. I completely agree that it's ruined by the random end mechanic. How on earth anyone thought a random end would be fun in a game where the last player to take a turn has a huge advantage is beyond me. Mind you, how anyone could rate this more than a about a '4' is beyond me yet people do.

Luckily, it's not me that owns it

My friends really enjoy this game. Yes,the outcome is randomized, but with most random results, it's still a great deal of fun to maximize the odds (we play killer bunnies rabidly, and that's a completely random result).

As with all randomized games, the trick is you have to play often to work out the luck. We've found that despite the fact that evil can win on any die roll, more often than not the good guys win. This is a good game, and in my mind the one thing I would have liked is for it to be shorter...when you have to play multiple games to work out the luck, you don't want to have to invest 3 hours per game.

I was one of the play-testers on this, along with my gaming group. We spent so many hours, day after day, playing and taking notes, only to have 99% of them rejected by Hasbro. Our main complaint was that the game board was incomplete - as was the game - but .... well you know what happened. The problem Hasbro had, as I understand it, was that because of the movies the non-gaming "money-men" had set a production date that the product clearly couldn't make. Shame really because we gave them a damn fine game and now it is nothing but waste paper and memories.

Actually, I find this to be one of the better Looney Labs games* around. I'll play this over Fluxx every time. The basic rules are simple enough to bring in the non-geeks and the hidden/changing goals keep players on their toes. It's a light game; a hippy version of dominoes, if you will.

* I don't include the Icehouse pyramid set in this comparison since I find that to be more of a game design tool (an excellent one!) than a game in and of itself.

As the designer of EuroHit I am actually pleased that Assassin made it to the "Worst Game List" and am honestly surprised it wasn't top of this chart. Avalon Hill fubar'd the game I sent them, by, amongst other things, breaking their agreement to let me see it prior to publishing, changing the name and the concept. EuroHit wasn't the greatest game in the world - it was home produced and suffered from poor card stock - but it worked. The second edition rules (available on BGG) do work well and the game is fun - still not the greatest game ever - but certainly a good 90+ minutes of entertainment.

A point no one mentions - sadly because of the poor apology for a game AH turned out - Assassin (EuroHit) was the first professionally published game to feature the Channel Tunnel, which would have been a good point had the game not sucked.

Try the rules on BGG if you have the game, and also try not to think of the name ASSASSIN. Eurohit was intended as a game of tag around Europe.

To show how bad AH's version is, they took out some cards from the original game and changed the names of others but never removed mention of them from the rules. I can only think the quality control guy was already looking for a new job as AH were sinking fast at the time.

PS: I don't accept that Assassin torpedoed Avalon Hill, it was vice versa.

This game is billed as a Risk expansion, but it doesn't use risk mechanics. Really, the reason is that it doesn't include any pieces, and you need Risk to play it. But let's say you have the Risk artillery, infantry, and cavalry. What do you end up with? ACW with pieces wearing tricornes. Blah!

How could this list possibly be contained to 25? I could have easily added a fist full such as Lucky Seven & Hue Knew?, both purchased because they are supposed to be quick & addictive, but turned out to be quickly non-addictive. And how about a list, "Games your Children Clamor to Play that Make you Want to Vomit"?

Yeah, some of these games are really bad. I agree with a majority of them.

However, some seem to pick on games that require some role-playing or subjective play. And one or two you haven't played, just read about.

All in all, pretty good.
