These are the games ranked 81-100 at The One Hundred, which can be found here:
http://fluffysnoop.blogspot.com

I am not at all associated with the creation of this list but did ask permission before recreating the list here. Please comment on these games and let us know how you evaluate them.

From the site:

"Stephen Glenn:

In the waning months of 2004, I asked a group of dedicated, hardcore gamers to send me a list of their top 15 games of all time. I specifically asked them to list games that they most enjoyed playing -- not necessarily games that they felt deserved special honor or recognition. I also requested that they list the games in order (from most favorite to least favorite).

Based on their responses and my calculations, here is the Official & Authoritative 100 Best Games of All Time Ever Without Question.

It should be noted that the list has a decided Euro-slant. This should not be surprising, considering the participants. If you asked a group of wargamers or RPGers the same question, you'd get a much different list. Beyond that, the list should speak for itself. I hope you enjoy it and that it sparks much conversation & pleasant debate."

Well...(followed by the sound of flood gates opening)...

Out of the many games I've discovered in the brief year I've been visiting BGG, Samurai is perhaps my favorite. The components are high quality and very well done. The game scales brilliantly - better than any other game I've played. It plays quickly, but is challenging. The rules are very simple, but the game always feels "deep". I love the way the scoring and special tiles serve to give the player great tactical flexibilty in the game. I've had tremendous success introducing it to gamers and non-gamers alike. Of all the games in my collection, this one feels like something I will still want to play ten years from now.

Thank you! That was an awesome comment that told me not only why you think the game is so great but it also told me a little about what you like in games. I wish more people would take the time to comment like that.

I think that Samurai is about right (I could put it anywhere from 80 to 120th based on mood). The problem is all of the junk above it.

I think that this is a pretty nice game, especially for newcomers to the hobby. Easy rules and a gameboard thats nice to look at. Strategy that appears very simple initially changes with more playings. Other options for posible plays eventually come to light making the game more than what it initially seems. Ranking the game in the 90's seems about right.

This also works very well as a "couples" game, if you and your significant other prefer to play games where there is limited interaction; in a 2-player game, it is very easy for both players to stake out their own territories.

There are a few pitfalls for introducing this to casual players; the distinction between tiles you move and tiles you remove from the board and tiles you score statically may be confusing at first, as is the precise definition of an "occupied" space vs. an "unoccupied" space.

I have heard but cannot verify that one reason that a reprint might not be forthcoming is that the authors of Crude may not have properly given permission for the Hexagames reprint.

Hopefully I'm wrong and someone has the proper rights and a reprint can be produced.

I am glad to see this game on the list, as opposed to the lower ranking here on BGG.

Is it a deep thinking game? No. But it is a game that every time I break it out, we laugh, and trash talk, and have alot of fun.

It's a awesome game, great for non-gamers and kids, and is only a bad game for people who aren't into flicking things :D.

Interesting factoid. Right now Domaine is #135. By my count, 35 of the higher rated games are expansions, making this squeek into BGGs Top 100 (of pure games).

This is a great game. Pure negotiation and a little bit of luck. I always lose, because I am just bad at it, and I take whatever deal other players offer me - I guess I am a sucker.

The game has very simple rules, and 80% of the time is just interacting with other players. The only downside to the game is when you play with people who don't trade or don't like to make deals. Then the game does not work.

If you can get it - and there are always some on ebay.de, I highly recommend this one. Unlike other recent games...a re-print is not on the horizon for this one.

I think that this rating is low. This may be the best 6 player game ever invented. Each of the six characters in the game has special rules that apply only to each of them.

Knowing how to make best use of each characters special powers most often decides who the winner will be at the end.

Different characters can form alliances for mutual benefit and can even combine for the win. Knowing which of the other characters has powers that might help you accomplish your goal is important.

I guess the problem with the game would be finding 6 players willing to take the time to learn it. If you can find a willing group then the experience of playing will be a worthwhile one.

as great a game as dune is, it's hampered by an abrupt endgame where the game is often decided and ended there and then simply by the alliances people make

Mike - If alliances produce an abrupt ending that you don't like then don't allow alliances to produce victory. In other words the alliance could only be used to secure some advantage during the game (share a spice blow or two) but not final victory which would only be possible for one player, the one who accomplishes the victory conditions. Many ways to tweek the rules to fit your particular idea of how the game should or could be won.

I agree, this game should be rated much higher. This game is great! With the different abilities of each faction, the thought and strategy involved is one of the best in any game. Alliences may end the game abrubtly, but in my group only about a third of the games end this way, and that is only after the game has gone on for four hours or so.

I felt this game had way way way too much luck in it. I didnt see where any single stategy could win out over getting the shaft on a roll.

If i do play this again I will insist on as long of a race as possible to minimize this.

I dont want this to turn into a rant about luck... i like luck I like tossing dice... But I also ike the luck to not determine the winner of the game.

Snoop: Note that I said near willy-nilly-ness. I was merely establishing (what I perceived to be) your spot on the ultra-stingy/willy-nilly scale. And I was being a little silly.

I did notice that at least one of your ratings was pure goofiness, and at least a couple others were to be... taken with a grain of salt.

I myself am fairly generous with high ratings, and I have no problem with your 10's.

It seems, as I was saying, that perhaps your fundamental disagreement with the project has to do with your, shall we say, 'tighter' view of Greatness, as compared to Mr. Glenn's near-willy-nilly-ness.

Having read your blog, I see that your case was presented in a different way. More mathematically. Oh well.

No, the problem is that each voter got 15 votes, So each player was voting for their "Top 15". To extrapolate a Top 100 list leads to odd results. To take an example that was described to me....Three people voted for Age of Renaissance, which put it in the list. If only two had voted for it, it's down ten slots or out (not sure).

Now, if you believe (as I do) that lots of people are going to vote for Puerto Rico (and similar games), then each voter has roughly ten votes to differentiate themselves. So these lower games are 'noise' in the data. Someone (or three) likes these games a lot. Increasing the number of games per voter from 15 to 20 frees up five slots that are going to solidify the lower ranks, and bring more 'signal'

Even though I rate games much lower than normal (I basically follow the guidelines on the geek, and there are very few games that I'll always play enthusiastically. I like variety), but I'd just take my 15 highest rated games and order them. Same as Snoop did (I imagine). The fact that I have 10s, 9s and 8s (vs all 10s or all 5s) wouldn't matter.

Brian: I see your point, and I think you're right. To get "accurate," representative data, methodology similar to what you propose would be more suitable. The method used for The One Hundred produces some odd blips. Personally, I think the blips are interesting.
