Great game, but compared to most of the others listed here it is not really a simple game.

I love this game. It is not as complex as the rules may make it appear, though it is more complex than say Hammer of the Scots.

My current favourite game. Comes with some short scenarios (although check out the dicussion on the Crusader scenario in the BGG RitD page) so is playable in about 1.5 to 2 hours, unlike EastFront.

A current favorite. This gets lost in the "block game" shuffle, I'm afraid.

I need to open this one. I've had it for awhile and would love to get a 3 player one going.

My husband and I began with this game. It can be a multi-player which is a plus. The way for Napoleon win is by having me play the English. I'm getting better though and it was a close game. My English forces abandon the Prussians. It's a fun game.

The games I have played have been fairly balanced. The French have to concentrate to win, however.

This is really a nice game, though one of the more complex block games. Consequently I am not able to find anyone to play it with.

This is a superb game, but it usually takes us an entire afternoon to play. I had to play this a couple of times just to get a good feel for the HQs and the railway lines.

This one has been tempting me for a long time. I think I could get someone to try it because of the theme of the game. Again short and simple (I hope..)

Very good but luck-dependant, especially for the English player.

This one is second to Wizard Kings for me. I like that there are rules that relate to the history. I like that a noble doesn't die, they just switch sides.

This is probably one of the easier ones. I really like this a lot and so does my fiance. Any dice game has a luck factor, though there is plenty of strategy too.

David, can you explain what you mean?

If there is any complaint to be made about this game, it's that English player will have a very difficult time winning if he doesn't draw the king often enough. Maybe I'm wrong; I'm hardly an expert. But it definitely does not stop me from wanting to play the game!

This would be my choice, but then it is the only Columbia Game I own.

To discuss the luck (randomness) element further:

There is an element of luck within whether the English King is part of the force within Scotland, but IMHO this is counter-balanced by the fact that Scotland must almost assuredly declare a King in order to win. This has to be done at the absolute right timing as well since many nobles pretty much defect to the English side when you do this.

Chance, luck, randomness (whatever you want to call it); works well in the historical context - especially involving the Vikings (i.e. Norway) and France, since they were a part of the Alliance.

An absolute gem for a 2-player wargame.

Yes you are right. This is, I think, the fastest playing one thus far from Columbia. Very pretty game.

No, actually you aren't right. Quebec, 1759, 1812 and Napoleon are all simpler than Crusader Rex.

This is a really good one, dude. I've just started playing it but I can see (already) how this can be a good one- especially with the delaying the French dr until 1777.

Block games don't usually generate stinkers. Liberty isn't a bad choice at all.

I got Rommel, Eastfront, and Hammer with this bundle offer a while ago. I have only played Rommel so far and I enjoy it a lot. I am not a war gamer, so this was my first real war game. I highly recommend it. It is mainly a supply line management game.

Another Norwegian with a passion for block games I see. I have westfront , eastfront , rommel in the desert and hammer of the scots plus europe engulfed. Only got a chance to play HOTS and a very brief test of westfront though. Why do I keep on buying all these games when I can´t get to play them :p
I can recommend HOTS at least , plays quickly and is easy to learn even if you´re not a hardcore gamer. Eastfront isn´t really that complicated either , and could be a nice step up after some playing of HOTS.

Definitely get Rommel. If the theme appeals to you at all, or you are looking for a 'lighter' introductory block game, get Hammer of the Scots. Finally, although I haven't played it I have great interest in Eastfront and my impression is that there is your best option. So I can recommend the first two and just throw that last one out there. If you don't like it you can always mail it to me...

Thanks for all the good advice. I have decided on the games cornjob mentions. Rommel, Hammer and eastfront. Like he said if I dont like them I could allways find someone who will buy them from me. I probably end up getting Napoleon also, because of the 3 player option. Thanks again BGG delivers again:)
