These are games that just go totally over the top in terms of production. By overproduced I mean that the game just blows you away when you open the box. For fun, add the one element that really pushes the game over the top (the most excessive, maybe useless, but still cool bit).

Does one really need 4 red apple decks? This is like, enough cards to run 3 or 4 games at a time. Will anyone every use all of the cards?

to say nothing of the expansions...

Overproduced AND overdesigned.

Just got this vis BGG trade, and WOW! Plastic subs to make Jules Verne proud. Little plastic research teams. This is one of the BEST looking games EVER MADE.

Not only are the bits over the top, but sadly, the game is a bit over the top, too. The game is too heavy (game-wise) and too long for what it is. Not to say it isn't well designed, cause it seems a really good game. But 2 - 2.5 hours? Too long for my social group, not serious enough for my serious group.

But this game is just too good-looking to give up on. Looking to tweak the rules so that you get about 80% of the gameplay in 50% of the time. If I can get this one down to an hour, it'll be a hit with my wife (hopefully).

I think this one belongs on the list. Admittedly, I'm biased because this is my favorite game. However, a list of the components is impressive. The board is only slightly larger than average for a boardgame -but the quality of it is good. The miniatures are also only "average" for detail, but you get hundreds of them! Each side has troops, hovertanks, helos, advanced fighter/bombers and APCs, each color coded to the side they belong to. The American player also has laser instalations and partisan troops. The game also has decently detailed "city" markers that are captured by the invaders (or recaptured by the USA player) along with hundreds of "control/battle" markers that make it easy to keep track of the action and who has control of which territories. The "reinforcement" deck of cards for the USA player takes the form of television "bulletins" of war news saying things like "National Guardsmen Rally" or "Detroit Cranks Out Additional Tanks" and so forth.

But to me, the best thing about Fortress America is that it is IMPOSSIBLE for the game to end in a draw. Once the invaders run out of reinforcements, they must take the remaining USA cities needed for victory quickly or the ever strengthening USA player will eventually turn the tide and drive the invaders back. It is possible for games like A&A to go on for DAYS. Fortress America will end after an average of fourteen turns.

Overproduction can't just mean pieces, this only has a few counters.

But it has rules, 48 pages worth, and not including charts, that's a separate 16 page book, and then there's all the charts for all the planes and missiles.

How to waste 1000$ and hundred of hours to paint all the models to play a game in tournement that require you to have the exact combination of weapon for each model.

Yuk, but the games is cool, nevertheless, gamesworkshop won't steel anymore of my money by wasting my all armies whit new rules or edition.

N/A
By today's standards, you can easily find a "more bits" game, but, I think, during the era of AH and chits, I think AC was about as overproduced as you would get. Nine decks of commodity cards, eight sets of chits, a deck of technology cards, and a whole lot of boardgaming space. The pieces, however, weren't extraneous. I notice that many of today's boardgame cardboard tokens could be easily replaced by pen and scratchpaper notes.

This one had the guys at Fantasy Flight Games very impressed. When FF is impressed by the production that's saying something. The figures are amzingly detailed because of a new mixture they had cooked up and also if you step on them they spring right back. Everything is glossy and polished and looks right smart.
