I frequently see questions asked about what games can be played with just a single player, and while there have been several other lists created for this purpose, I aim to make this the definitive list. Please add any games I may have missed.

The two questions I always ask when looking at games are; "What's this about?" and, "Is this solitaire only, or can I play it with others?" To answer these questions, I have listed a brief summary of each game (stolen from the game's page) and listed the number of players supported.

All comments are welcome and appreciated.

Upon looking at the game listing , it shows 2-3 players. Is this a solitaire game , or a non-solitaire game that works well played solitaire?

From The Rio Grande web site:

This first expansion for Race for the Galaxy adds cards, a 5th player, and other ways to expand your universe.

The designer will be releasing more details about this expansion closer to the release date. The information that is known is summarized by the designer.

Each expansion adds one more player, more cards, plus some goodies besides cards.

The first expansion includes solitaire rules. It also includes some blank cards and a contest card for players to submit a card idea to RGG. Two slots have been left open in the second expansion for the winners.

Empire of Arcana is a fantasy empire-building board game, designed over the past 2 years. In it, you will play a warlord trying to dominate Arcana, using a variety of troops to conquer your enemies. As you build up your empire, you will be able to collect more gold and mana, allowing you to build still stronger structures, support larger armies, and cast more powerful magic.

I wouldn't mind finding a copy of this game. No luck so far, though.

I also wouldn't mind a copy of this game. It sounds right up my alley. And when I can't convince my fiancee through pouting and whining to play a game with me, I could play it myself.

In Agricola, you're a farmer in a wooden shack with your spouse and little else. On a turn, you get to take only two actions, one for you and one for the spouse, from all the possibilities you'll find on a farm: collecting clay, wood or stone; building fences; and so on. You might think about having kids in order to get more work accomplished, but first you need to expand your house. And what are you going to feed all the little rugrats?

The 5th entry in The Gamer's popular Operational Combat System, and the grandest in scope, DAK covers the entire North African campaign at the regimental level, from Compass to El Alemain and beyond.

This is the most sought-after and highly collectible of The Gamers' line. The original DAK was quickly sold out without a trace. IN response to popular demand, MMP republishes the game in 2004 with the following components.

Five(!) 22"x34" maps
1540 counters
17 scenarios
Series Rules
Game Rules
Two Dice

Game features include:
Unit Scale: Battalion through Division
Hex Scale: 5 miles
Complexity: High
Solitaire Suitability: Moderate

Any particular reason this game is on this GeekList? I understand that most wargames can be played solo, but why this one in particular? Given the limited info rules, I'd have thought it less than ideal for solo play.

I thought the name of this geek list was "Always alone... the definitive list of single player games".

It says solitaire suitability is moderate. I say that's #@%^&! It's just not practical given the space and time requirements to do so solitaire.

Every single solitaire geek list on here is cluttered with two or more player games. Do you guys understand that we want to see games that are designed for "just one player"???

7. Retro: Tactical WWII Wargame Variant Rules [Average Rating:8.23 Unranked]

Retro is a tactical World War II infantry combat variant rules set. Gamers may utilize these rules and the components of Avalon Hill's Squad Leader, Advanced Squad Leader, or other popular tactical wargames to recreate World War II battles in a simplified, playable format. Though Retro enables you to make use of SL and ASL components and modules, it is not endorsed nor authorized by Avalon Hill or other publishers. Retro should be viewed as an unoffical variant to these fine games, and presumes that players own official modules and rules.
