This is a race game, but we all know in this context that slow and steady wins the race. You have to spend carrots (energy) to advance. You can earn carrots by moving backwards to a tortoise square. The number of carrots you earn depends on how many spaces you lost. Some versions have a hedgehog instead of a tortoise.

The object is to eliminate all of your opponent’s people. You can protect one of your own by transforming him into a tortoise. His new shell will save him from being harpooned by your opponent. You do this by playing a tortoise card, and then placing a marker on the person you want to protect. If you move him later, he loses the marker.

One side of the board is marked with pink turtles, the other with orange fish. Each card shows the map that is on the board, with one island highlighted. The top and bottom of the cards are also marked with turtles and fish. Check which symbol (turtle or fish) is at the top of the board from your perspective. Orient your cards the same way. That makes it a whole lot easier to locate the highlighted islands on the board. The backs of the cards are also marked with a turtle and fish, so if you keep the pack in order, the cards will already be oriented correctly when you pick them up.

In this game, players must visit the locations of endangered animals. Each player receives some cards during setup, with animals they must reach during the game. There are also some face-up animal cards that may be claimed by whoever first reaches that animal. The sea turtle is located off the coast of South America.

The blue cards together form a nice underwater scene. A turtle is quite prominent in a few of them. This turtle is for display purposes only!

My husband *loves* this game. Simple but devious, especially with 3 players. And it's very quick which makes it great for little kids (4 and up) and/or instant replays.
I like it better than Quicksand (which can get tedious IMO) and that's the closest analogy I can think of.

This is for very young kids. Some board spaces show the silhouette of an animal. If you land on one of these, you can try to identify what animal it is. If you get it right, you get to move up an extra space. Yep, one of these animals is a turtle.

I take it you're a turtle lover.

Pray tell why the only documentaries you ever see are of turtles giving birth and then the babies getting eaten by sharks...or islanders harpooning helpless turtles to eat and then make the shells into drums soblue
