Mat: Jungle Elves
Me: Deep Dwarves

Mat's first games. I was running the basic Deep Dwarves deck from the master set, he was running a modified version of the Jungle Elves that (other than the required starting setup) ran nothing but Gorillas, Elephants, and Lionesses.

I burned through my deck three turns faster than he did, but I had all three of my champions on the field. Came down to the wire, but I pulled off the win at the last minute. My summoner surely would have died the following turn.

On the whole, not a fan of the Deep Dwarves. Most units are only good if you have magic points to burn, but it's not like the deck's units are particularly cheap or anything.

Brandon showed up and we played two scenarios with him running both his and Anna's characters, Mat DMing.

This was our first session since hitting level 2. What a nightmare. I kept rolling in the single digits. So awful.

Gained another ~350-ish XP. Branden picked up a cloak with a bonus against ranged attacks, as well as a wand implement with an ice attack encounter attack power. I gained catstep boots, which halves damage from falling and allows me to always land on my feet, as well as has a daily utility power that grants a +5 bonus to either Acrobatics or Athletics.

Me - Elves: 41
Mat - Orcs: 40
Branden - Dwarves: 21

I had a super strong start, gaining three star players and a team upgrade on the first round. Not just that, two of those star players were freebooters, meaning I got to cut two turdy linemen from my deck as well. With how fast the elves are with all those sprinting skills, I always had a good hand.

Branden's dwarves were annoying sturdy, but he didn't get any star players until the last two turns of the game. He had some nasty team and staff upgrades, but I was able to mitigate their effect with my team and staff upgrades.

Mat went with my strategy [from the last game I had played] and went craaaaazy with the team and staff upgrades, while also managing to pick up two early star players. All those upgrades were impossible to keep track of and it simply wasn't possible to predict what he was going to do any given turn.

Amusingly enough, more than half of Mat's points came from upgrade cards alone. I thought I was leagues ahead of everyone, and then we totaled everything up, and it turned out to be a really close game.

*EDIT: In brackets.

Played two games of Fluxx, won two games of Fluxx.

After that, Sierra came home and we started Shadows over Camelot, but Vincent was being a huge butt so we called it a night instead.

Just want to remind everyone that on 1/29, Kevin had hosted a board game night. So, essentially, today marks four consecutive days of gaming for me. Living up to my geeklist's name and getting gaming going on 2/1 and 2/2 will be six consecutive days.

Kevin and Mat showed up, Sierra came out from hanging out with her friends, so we had six. We decided to split up three and three.

Kevin wanted to get this played, Dimitri and Nathan played with him. I think I remember Kevin saying he ran circles around them.

Me - Babylon (A): 75
Mat - Giza (A): 66
Sierra - Alexandria (B): 52

Mat focused heavily on blue and yellow cards. Sierra also had a lot of blue cards (though Mat got the 7VP and 8VP ones), but her main category wound up being guilds for a crazy 21VP in three cards.

I, being Babylon, focused on science for 52VP. I also lucked out and went uncontested in military the first two rounds. Even with Mat beating me in Age III, and with dealing with Sierra's leader that gives you her defeat tokens, I still earned 9VP off of a single Age I military card... pretty retarded.

Macao was still going, so then we jumped into this.

Sierra claimed Tokyo on the first turn. Between her gaining multiple healing cards and Mat never rolling any attacks, it took forever to get her to leave. Of course, as soon as I get in, I get beat for 5 in a single rotation. Sierra healed back up to 10HP, went back in, and quickly race to 20VP.

Whaaaaaat. Macao was still going and they wanted to play this. I warned them.

We played first to 25 points. I did it in two rounds.

Me: 31
Mat: 14
Sierra: 7

We played another two rounds for fun after that.

Me: 34
Mat: 19
Sierra: 5

Yeah. This is why this doesn't get played very often.

Pre-campaign setup:
Twelve resource stickers on Ontario, Ural, Scandinavia, Egypt, East Africa, Venezuela, Iceland, Afghanistan, Northern Europe, Central America, New Guinea, Southeast Asia

Me - Enclave of the Bear: The defender subtracts 1 from his lower defense die in the first territory you attack during your turn.
Nathan - Imperial Balkania: When recruiting troops, round up when dividing your territory and population by 3, not down.
Kevin - Kahn Industries: At the start of your turn, place one troop in each territory that has a HQ that you control.
Sierra - Saharan Republic: When making your maneuver, you ma maneuver between any two territories you control, even if they are not connected.
Mat - Die Mechaniker: If your defense roll is two natural 6s, that territory cannot be attacked again for the rest of the turn.

Finally!

Sierra was expecting Vincent to be an asshole, and she had school work to do, so she opted to sit out and let Dimitri play for her. She wound up being so enthralled by the game (and Vincent wound up being pretty good), she actually just wound up sitting there with us and watching the whole time. She didn't want to take over her faction and leave Dimitri to be the odd man out (no one else showed up all night).

We rolled for start player and I won. I placed my HQ in Western Austrailia, Nathan in South Africa, Dimitri in Argentina, Kevin in Alberta, and Mat in Scandinavia. Everyone but Mat, turtled away in an easy continent, easily gained control of their area pretty quickly.

After Kevin got his big +5 continent bonus, he wailed on Mat, who had not yet unified Europe, and pretty quickly came close to wiping him off the map. Mat would have just been better off being wiped off the map so he could restart in Asia with four units consolidated in one country (as opposed to three units spread across three countries, never able to attack).

Nathan filled up Afica and went into the Middle East, where I met and defeated him, then went into Africa. Dimitri filled up South America and ran into North America while Kevin was distracted with Mat.

I was able to gain 13 troops one turn ([12/3] + 2 [Austrailia] + 7 [resource cards]), drop them in Eastern Africa, and take both of Nathan and Dimitri's HQs in a single push, giving me my third and fourth red stars respectively.

Me - Enclave of the Bear: Victory
Nathan - Imperial Balkania: Held on
Kevin - Kahn Industries: Held on
Dimitri/Sierra - Saharan Republic: Held on
Mat - Die Mechaniker: Held on

Major city:
Fort Awesome @ Indonesia (Me)

Minor cities:
Really Cold @ Iceland (Kevin*)
Crumpettown @ Great Britain (Mat)
Fucktopia @ Egypt (Nathan*)
Shady Grove @ Central America (Dimitri/Sierra)

*We messed up at first and Kevin and Nathan just threw their cities down wherever. We didn't realize it had to be in a territory you controlled at the end of the game. Originally, Nathan founded Really Cold somewhere in Europe and Kevin founded Fucktopia in the Middle East. We peeled up the stickers and, realizing that Nathan would have had to put Really Cold somewhere in Africa, and it was more appropriate for it to go to Europe where Kevin had been, he and Kevin switched stickers. Thus, Nathan technically founded Fucktopia, and Kevin technically founded Really Cold.

Bunkers:
Middle East (Nathan)
Iceland (Mat)
Venezuela (Dimitri/Sierra)

Ammo shortages:
East Africa (Me)
Scandinavia (Kevin)

Leftover scars for future games:
Ammo shortage x1
