Everybody here loves board games, but what else interests us? Folks here are generally bright, interesting people. As a whole, we are usually in a group outside of the cookie-cutter pop culture of today. Therefore, I suspect many of us have interesting hobbies. Thus it would be interesting to hear about such hobbies from all gamers from across the world (at least indulge me here)

Nope, not yet. I usually stick to wild caves and not the tour caves. I do most of my caving in the southeast. There are sections of the cave that are not one the tour ( of course, giving that the cave is 300+ miles long!surprise) but I have heard it is hard to get access the these.

D&D. Which isn't a board game. I run a PBEM campaign set in my own world. When I'm not processing turnsheets or writing the news, I like to flesh out the world with extra history, geogrpaphy and so on. Setting is vaguely Crusades but one PC is working on gunpowder weapons... anyway as I said under Sci-Fi books, I read about the real Crusades and the middle ages generally for inspiration.

My hobby too, although I prefer 'mountaineering' as a more wide-ranging description. I am about 45-90 minutes from great rocks and mountains on three points of the compass. I bought new crampons over the New Year, which was almost as exciting as getting Tigris and Euphrates for Christmas! surprise

Fencing. Started while at school, kept it going for 20 years up until the early 90s, and last year took it up again (prompted by my elder daughter taking it up). I don't claim to have any great skill, but I'm pleased the hand and brain still know what to do after all these years, and that I am still fit enough to fight people a third of my age.

Now my children are teen or nearly, I have more spare time and have been able to resurrect the hobbies had when younger. Gaming is another of these.

I collect a series of comics...."100 Bullets"
I started as the premise sounded cool (man goes to someone with a briefcase with a handgun and 100 untraceable rounds and a picture of someone who has wronged them in the past) and there's only going to be 100 'episodes'.
It's up to 67 and I've got all of them except a few between 8 and 18....

I am also very much interested in certain types of movies: silent films; old movies with particular stars (Freddie Bartholomew, Gregory Peck, Maggie Smith, Richard Basehart) or from certain genres (old horror stuff with Lugosi, Karloff, Chaney Sr., &c; good ghost films -- hard to come by; some noir, etc.). More modern film interests include anything by Christopher Guest or Mike Myers. Best recent film I've seen: CAPOTE (what a performance!) laughkiss

I'm also a movie buff, with great interest in international "foreign" films! There is an annual Internation Film Festival in Singapore which i try to take note of what's new. usually produced by indie film-makers. I always don't time to watch them at the cinemas as the cinemas only screen these films at only one time slot, so i end up having to wait for them when they turn up at the video stores. My favorities are: City of God, the Eighth Day, Garandiru, the Machinist, Y Tu Mama Tambien. I also like old classics like Stand by Me, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Raging Bull, the Graduate, Casino, just to name a few.

great list, guys!

The chosen game is for a reason.
Yes I love to play cricket and until I moved to Birmingham I used to play cricket for a club and trained also. I'm looking for a club up here at the moment.
But until then I have to fulfill my cricketing urges by playing International Cricket Captain on the PC and watching as much cricket as possible from my, you got it, armchair!
My county of choice is Kent (I was born and brought up there) and country-wise it's obviously England and also South Africa (dating back to the days when two thirds of the team were Christians, including the world's best fielder Jonty Rhodes who's autograph I proudly have)

I enjoy photographing old neon signs, both functional & non-functional. Neon is a very interesting signage type that is some areas is being well preserved but in other areas is being driven out by local government. Some of the signs I photgraph have been preserved & restored, others are doomed (DOOMED I SAY!!) You also meet a lot of interesting people since a lot of the vintage neon is normally found in older parts of town.

In Denver I listened to a motel owner for 30 minutes tell me how Denver passed a law when a business w/neon signage is sold, the sign has to be taken down & changed. A gentleman in Idaho Falls explained how businesses get a tax break if they repair & keep the old neon signage. Salt Lake City has some wonderful neon (& lots of it) but sadly a lot of it doesn't meet current codes (too close to the road, too big, too whatever) & if it is damaged, cannot be replaced. Tulsa seems to be tearing down everything.

I have been chased down the street by drunks in Ogden thinking I was taking pictures of their brains and sent my photos to a motel owner in VA as proof that his sign was working prior to a city work truck damaging it.

A lot of my photos are on my website http://dwayne.blog-city.com

I play also although I am in between teams at the moment. Live down the road from a local ice rink so I really have no excuse not to play more. My friends all have taken of the skates and gotten fat and old. I love the game!

I'm hot about the history of World War II. Currently I'm reading The Siegfried Line Campaign by Charles B. MacDonald and Hitler's Last Gamble by Trevor N. Dupuy. (Well HLG is HIA until after the library book is finished, TSLC.)

Yeah buddy! I'm a history major, junior year, and if they would let me do my concentration in World War 2, I'd totally do it. As it is, I've settled for a primary concentration in US history and a secondary in modern European history.

Yup! I'm a WWII buff. My office looks like a WWII museum. I have helmets, uniforms, medals, German war badges, etc. and my walls are loaded with WWII aviation art prints. I also have a mannequin with a complete British uniform from the Guards Armored Division.

Traveling is indeed soo nice. I need to get out of the country at least twice a year, preferably more. Still my limted budget reduces the distance hehe Until now it has stayed only in Europe though there is a large variation in this single continent.

Skied Chile & New Zealand back in August/September

Just spent New Year in Serre Chevalier in France

Off to Utah at the end of January for 2 weeks

Plus I have trips to Austria, France & Austria again planned before the end of the season.

Some people might think I have a problem ...

I spend WAY too much time online playing MMORPG. In a guild that manages to get server first boss kills on most newly implemented content. I think the most fun is figuring out the strategies to initially defeat those encounters. We were the first on our server, and one of the first 10 or so groups to kill the bad-boy in the picture in-game.

Being an RPG head, my other hobby is Live Action Role-Playing.

I mainly play miniature wargames in the ancient era. I ocassionaly play De Bellis Antiquitatis (DBA), and Might Of Arms which is based on the old WRG rules. I wanted to try wargaming other eras of history without having to go thru purchasing a lot of lead and having to paint all the lead. That is how I stumbled into board wargaming .

My drop of choice, despite that I brew lesser products.

Come guess me this riddle, what beats pipes and fiddle
What's hotter than mustard and milder than cream
What best wets your whistle, what's clearer than crystal
What's sweeter than honey and stronger than steam
What'll make the lame walk, what will make the dumb talk,
The elixir of life and philosopher's stone...
...Oh lord, it's no wonder, if lightning and thunder
Weren't made from the plunder of poteen, me boys.

I've got a regular library in my basement, much to the horror of my wife. Luckily, I also collect skulls (real and replica) which horrify her even more.. As long as they all stay in my office (or come out one at a time) she tolerates the whole.
