My cat. His name is Jake and he likes to lay on game boards if they are on the floor (he does it every time). He is 10 years old, weighs 16 lbs, and is diabetic. We have to give him two insulin shots daily and he has to eat special food.

He is more like a dog than a cat. He hates being alone and follows us everywhere. He purrs if you look at him and rolls over on his back if you pet him. He meets us at the door when we come in the house.

Wow, and I thought we had the only cat like that! Andi is a great cat -- if she's sitting near you, she'll curl up and put her head on your leg, or stretch her leg out so she can JUST touch you. The only time she isn't purring is when there's thunder outside.

You say they all play fetch, but I've never seen or heard that until I got my cat. By play fetch, do you mean they'll chase after what you through, or that they actually will chase it, bring it back, carefully place it next to you on the couch, and wait patiently for you to throw it again?

Yep. The only difference I've ever noticed is in the "bringing it back". One of my current cats, Wonk, will bring it right back to my hand. Porkunbeans, however, would hide it near me and wait for me to get close then try to grab it and run. My friend's cat brings it back to your general vicinity while not directly to you and a previous cat, Edith, would go and get it but only make it about half way back before she would start meowing to have you come and get it.

My male cat Loki (who passed away about a year ago from a heart attack) had lots of habits like you guys described here. He would follow me like a shadow, purr like crazy, wait in the window for me to return from work- then meet me at the door. His typical greeting is that he would rub his front paws on my shoes for about 10 seconds. He was insistent on finshing the job, so I would have to stand at the door until he was done.

Traits that I found unusual, but at the same time adorable were that when I went to bed, he would leap in with me and lay next to me to have me spoon him. Often times, he would lick my hair the same way he would like his coat for a cleaning. I tell you, that scratchy touch hurts after a while.

He loved sleeping on top of my computer monitor whenever I was playing games. I felt bad, because occasionally he'd get into a deep sleep, and come crashing down on my keyboard.

Gosh, I miss him.

Well, my wife and I have 3 cats.

The oldest of the three she adopted a couple months before we started dating. He still resents the fact that he has to share his mom's love with me. He was adopted as a 6-month old kitten from a rescue shelter - his mama kitty had died, so he was bottle fed. To this day, the only person he really likes is my wife. Me, he tolerates... Usually. When we have guests over to the house, he usually hides. Until he was 2 or 3 years old, he used to play fetch with his little toy mice. We'd throw them across the apartment, he'd track them down and bring them right back to us, so we could toss them again. Now, he'll chase just about anything that you throw his way, but he gives up on the chase before he ever reaches the toy.

The next cat was a female adopted from the same shelter, only she was a little older. We have a couple of catnip filled wool mice she likes to roll around with, but other than that, she's not much of one for toys. She can be very affectionate when she wants to be, the rest of the time she hides someplace quiet.

Our youngest was adopted from the local humane society. And he, like many others, thinks he's a puppy. He follows us (usually me) around the house. He begs for food (and loves bread, of all things!). He lies on his back, exposing his belly (though usually he'll try to bite if you touch his belly, go figure). He'll play with toys, but he's never played fetch to our knowledge.

Yes, she is. And, although I am biased, she's by far the most beautiful Somali I've ever seen, with a personality to match. I got her when she was 7 years old from a woman who raises Burmans. She adopted a new cat that started terrorizing Sassy. I got her on the condition that she be an "only" cat.

Funny thing is, we didn't name any of the cats.

We have a third cat named Holly, but on more than one occasion, we have thought of renaming the cat Barley to go along with the rest of the cats.

Our cat is called Meeple and she looked almost exactly like that when she was a kitten!

I can;t find any pics to hand, but to see what yours will look like in three years, check out Sue (Mum of Meeple)'s avatar.

Let's just hope your Meeple is a little brighter than our Meeple ... she likes to open doors with her head blush

BTW ... where'd the furry red Meeple come from ?

It's a good thing my wife's name isn't Sue, otherwise I'd be getting worried!

My wife made the furry meeple as a leaving present for some gamer friends of ours (ibncalb on BGG) who are driving to South Africa. It was really easy to make - Just two large pieces of meeple shaped fur (fake, I'm assured - no wild Meeples were harmed in its construction), and one long strip of fur to give it depth.

kilgore posted a really good template on this thread: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/90776

It's also worth 540 meeples if you are playing with the Inns and Cathedrals expansion!

Some yearg ago I did some allergy exams, and the result was that I am allergic to cats.
When I took Circe to my house, I had a little cold for a week, that's all.
Now we moved to my girlfriend's house, and she already lived with two other cats.
Two humans and three felines under the same roof.
And -luckily- no allergy at all

Positive and negative reinforcement in combination does the trick quite well.

I often have games set up over several days at a time, so I started training my cats to be game-friendly when they were kittens. You can tell by this image that they understand the "look but don't touch" concept. Of course, box lids are fair game!

Mine, Maxine, does it naturally. She is curious about the game in session. She sniffs...looks carefully...raises a paw to touch, but never actually touches...sniffs again, than moves onto the next piece. Of course she stands right in the middle of the board. Kinda funny watching her walk through it. She places her paws down very carefully and each step is very intentional. This is so odd because she is a very playful cat, and loves to knock her toy mice around. Yet, when it comes to my games, she takes great care around them. I never played any part in this intentionally.

I'm living with two cats at present, but they, as well as four cats who previously owned me have all been good about never disturbing the games in progress. They're allowed on the table before the games begin, greeting everyone, rolling around, and getting pets from all, but once I bring a game to the table, they know it's time to get down, and they stay off the table until the game is put away. We have to pause for a petting session between games, though.

My other half's cat, Hazel, appeared in this ebay listing for Maxwell...unfortunately it's quite terrible and didn't sell so I gave it away instead (the game, not the cat).

I think what I love most about the above photo is the Little Mike Wolkowski in the background.

...and the cat is cute too! I love cats!

In ASL, famous for it's acronyms comes FOBA. OBA stands
for Off Board Artillery, and FOBA, is you guessed it:
Feline Off Board Artillery. When the cat jumps on the map,
dispersing your carefully arranged position, it's the most effective weapon in the arsenal, ending instantly any game
in progress.
