Never thought that adding special power cards to En Garde could improve the game so much. I was very lukewarm on En Garde, but Flash Duel is absolutely terrific.

I'm a bit jaded. I've rated only one game a 10, and this is it. I started playing this in the mid 1980s, and haven't found any board game since that has "blown my mind."

Being relatively new to this hobby since January, I've been blessed to be able to play a large variety of games in a short time. Since I first played it I had to buy this game. I've played it a ton since and am not getting tired of it. There is so much strategy and replayability, I just love it. I play with my 7 year old son and friends my age. They all love this game. I can't wait to see what is in store when they finish playtesting the expansion. I'll be the first in line to pick that up.

Wow, for such a simple set of rules, this game has really surprised me with its depth, replayability and combination of strategy and tactics together in one nice package. Plus I've only scratched the surface and its expandable. Oh yeah!

Sat down to play it the other night at our gaming group. What is this all about?
Oh no, another worker placement quest filling, victory point fantasy D&D type game.
Been there, Done that.

Wrong! Waterdeep was a hip, fast paced game that had you thinking, planning, hoping, and mildly cursing as your plans seemed to rise and sink as each player placed their meeple.

My only complaint- The game could have gone one more round, maybe then I would have won.
Or should most all games say us who are on the losing end!whistle

Almost everything that keeps me from enjoying chess is "fixed" in this game. Tactical, strategic, deep, and artistic. The characters on the pieces are easier to learn than you might expect. One of my few 10's.

Most AP games I'm aware of are nothing but search trees, but this one's a tense immersive game where every decision feels like a critical one -- including setup. Setup not only requires you to place your units in the best locations (even placing a unit one hex too far makes a difference) but the optimal squad setup (units within a squad). The replay is ridiculous -- every move feels like a "coulda woulda shoulda" moment!

EDIT: Plays very well solitaire. You can "take back" a move to see how well a different tactic would have worked!

Offers a great focused gameplay. Few elements with lots of tactics. Good feeling and narrative. A quick, simple and rather deep fix, which complements so well monster games in the same category like Descent and Earth Reborn. Great graphics and good dice applications. It takes from a big drawback(lack of variety)it's greatest virtue, simplicity.

Ok ok I know alot of people are going to go "SOTM?! Really?!". Yes, really. The thing that blows my mind about this game is that the mechanics so perfectly fit each thing they are representing. The mob boss feels like a Mob Boss, the bounty hunter feels like fighting a bounty hunter, fighting in a city feels like fighting in a city, and fighting on Insula Primalus feels like fighting in the lost world. The designers just so hit it out of the park on setting up the card powers and abilities to perfectly mimic what they are supposed to be representing in an abstract faction. While I play many games, I would never turn a game of this down.

We started to play and were fascinated by this game. Yesterday we played it three times in a row and finally defeated the black dragon.

What I really love about the game:

+ It is really storytelling
+ Every time it plays differently
+ The artwork is great
+ It is a fantasy game but with lighter theme
+ Although there are random factors in the game, it is necessary to plan and possible to win by good gameplay
+ It sometimes feels like a riddle how and when each character should act
+ Just by killing monsters as much as you can will lead to your defeat
+ The game has kind of an AI, so that the monsters appear and move "by themselves" (but of course the game itself can not really "react" or change its strategy in order to deal with the actions of the heroes. Nevertheless the heroes actions trigger meaningfull events)So sometimes it feels like playing a videogame (in a good sense)

I think it is a perfect blend of an american- and eurostyle type of game and it definitely opens a new era of boardgaming!

I´m playing the solitaire option. Each one of the gameplays are different: there are cards, tokens, fight against a Klingon ship and a race against time while you´re trying to complete several adventures related to energy, political and rebels in a far planet WHICH HESITATES TO JOIN THE FEDERATION...

Excellent...

This game is a masterpiece, in my opinion. There is so much content packed into this little box that you could play off this for several years and still find interesting match-ups. On top of that, the game is super quick (10-15 minutes) and can be easily played by PbF. There is deep strategy to be discovered here and I can't imagine how awesome this game will be once Devastation, the next box with 30 new characters, is released this summer.

Owned this game for a couple of years, but finally got it to the table and worked through the first case with my brother-in-law last weekend. WOW! What a fantastic gaming experience. Exciting, suspenseful, intriguing and immersive. Not a game I will play every night, but could easily work through one mystery every month and have a great experience every time. I own the first two add-on case books as well, and will be adding the last two to my want-list. That should be 4-5 years worth of fun!

Napoleon's Triumph blew my mind about two years ago. Since then, I eagerly awaited Bowen Simmons' new release. After many twists and turns, it finally came out and it is gorgeous, totally different from NT, and extraordinary in many many ways.

The treatment of terrain is perhaps one of the most brilliant design concepts I've encountered in gaming. The combat procedure is, as with NT, procedural and deterministic. But it is completely different, unique in its own right, and completely evocative of the conflict.

I like a lot of games. Not many blow my mind. This. This is one of them.

I've played this a dozen times now, always with the Nomads, I've tried a new strategy every time, and they each have a chance of success. Never have I encountered a better balanced Euro. And great fun to boot. It looks complicated, but it plays really intuitively.

A game that screams: "I'm a Euro" slap "I'm a Wargame" slap "I'm a Euro" slap "I'm a Wargame" ... forget it Jake it's Chinatown.

Really fun game, card driven, point to point, has supply and armies... and one of the most beautiful maps out there.

I thought it very clever how using multiple decks with multiple suits and matching the suits to an area where the army is to decide which cards to play during combat was brilliant. You try to drain your opponnent of a suite and attack with a suite you are strong in.

Never seen another game exactly like this (Maria is 3 player version of this system).

Recommended.
