Milton Bradley's American Heritage 'Command Decision' Series
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist.php3?action=view&listi...

A 1960s war-themed game series that many wargamers were raised on -- Battle-Cry (aka Civil War), Broadside, Dogfight, and Hit the Beach. Skirmish was added to the series in the 1970s.

This was very popular when I was in junior high, along with the companion games, one about the Civil War, one about sailing ships ("Broadsides"?). Encountered it in someone's collection 30+ years later when some of us were at his house, he was finishing up another game, so another friend and I decided to play something while waiting, and both of us immediately chose Dogfight.

A series published by Yaquinto Games in the 1980s. At first glance, an Album Game looked like the sleeve for a double LP record. However, when you opened it up, it functioned as the game board. The Album Games covered a diverse range of genres - fantasy games, sci-fi games, wargames, and family games.

A series of six games released by Heritage USA in 1978 and 1979. All of these games were multi-player affairs with short rules (4 pages or less). The components were generally colorful and sturdy, with extra-thick counters (in the style of Battleline/Yaquinto). The games covered sci-fi, fantasy, and historical genres.

I was in old very small thrift store burning a few minutes of time one day. Hanging off a shelf, I spotted a copy of Foxbat and Phantom. I am a big fan of the old SPI, so I was game to look at it.

I opened it to find half the pieces missing. The rules were torn and the map had a large stain on it. I am a pack rat and I have a special place for these games in my heart. I almost spent the $5.00 they wanted for it just to give it a good home. I knew if I did it would probably never be opened again.

Alas, I left it there 15 years ago and I have regretted it ever since. :(:shake:

'Ambush' Solitaire Wargame Family From Victory Games
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist.php3?action=view&listi...

Ambush! was a landmark solitaire wargame portraying man-to-man combat between the Americans and Germans in World War II, with history taking a back seat to Hollywood-inspired heroics. It is highly regarded for its innovative mechanics, as well as its tense and addictive gameplay. The game family consists of the base game, three expansions, a Pacific Theater based game and expansion, a less popular tank game, and a two-player version of the game system.

Double-Blind Land Warfare Wargames
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist.php3?action=view&listi...

For you non-grognards, a double-blind game is one in which neither player can see the other player's pieces absent the units coming into contact or in sight of one another. While double-blind play was common in naval board wargames, it was more complicated to implement in a two-player game involving ground forces. This comprehensive (?) list sets forth nine boardgames which made the effort.

We used to play Armor ( http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/4291) double blind as well. Not sure if that was part of the rules (since I never read them) but that is the style we played

I believe NDC only allowed double-blind play through a referee, while the list focuses on games with mechanics that permit double-blind play without the need for a third person.

AMERICAN CIVIL WAR GAME SERIES
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist.php3?action=view&listi...
There are many American Civil War (ACW) games that share common rules with other games. In wargames this can be very efficient as it takes time to learn rules. The ability to transfer that knowledge to another game is probably what lead to these game series. Some of the series are in, or close to, double digit in games. I found some that were only sets, but I included them as they could grow later.
I'm sure there are series that are missing and would like to see this list grow.

Wargamer to Euro to occasional Grognard
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist.php3?action=view&listi...
Okay Joe, here is another list I did which has kind of turned into a diary of my game closet transformation from pure Euro to war about 30% war games.
I have been a game player since the early '70s, but after ~ 1983 I bought few new games until the early '90s and Robo Rally opened my eyes. When the Mayfair version of Settlers of Catan appeared, I was first in line to buy. Euro game buying and playing continues to this day.
My original big games were SPI and AH wargames but I had not bought a true wargame since the early 1980's. I wanted to look into drifting back to the war game genre. This started as a small list of war games I was starting to acquire, but soon the list ballooned as did my war game shelf! Ebay can be a great place to expand your game closet while exhausting your wallet.
Others interested in trying war games might find some games of interest on this list. Add others you think I need or convince me what order to try these in. Pitch your favorites!
