This is the traditional weekly thrift and bargain finds list.
These lists may start empty, but as always, add your items.
Put in what you consider a bargain, tell us how much you paid and the place you got it from. Bargains can be thrift store finds or any second-hand purchases or discounted boardgames bought new. Don't forget to add your encounters with the Thrift Store Irritant Squad, the Tape Monkeys, and any other embellishments in order to make it even more interesting.
The Thrift Store/Bargain Finds List Wayback Machine: The Grand Vizier is maintaining a list of all the weekly lists through time. He is also adding stats and interesting tidbits for us thrifty geeks. Your Thrift Store Bargain Finds Through Time (with links to all previous lists)
Our GeekGuild: Welcome to The Ancient and Loyal Order of Thrifters. Enter the halls of thriftdom at your own risk. Please do mind the stacks of prized games, do not mention the musty smell and try not to sneeze. Virtually brand new copy of Myst. It appears that someone must have gotten it as a gift. Why? Because there was an after-market Strategy Guide as well as the orginal CD-ROM computer game included in the box. The owner must have taken one look at all that stuff and gave up because there's no indication of any use.
My FLGS (LFGS?) had a market day today where people can bring games and sell them and receive store credit. Most of the stuff was Warhammer, pnp rpgs and minis, but there were a few board games and this was one of them. I snagged it for $25, no tax.
The box has been opened but everything is still sealed and there are english rules. The sellers said the hill giant is in there, so I'll have to verify in a bit. Not super cheap thrift, but it seemed like a pretty good deal to me!
I got the base game and 3 expansions for $140 from craigslist...so I'll call it $35 each. Agreed that it pushes the limit of bargain and probably shouldn't be posted, but the same 4 games together have sold for $300 a couple of times recently on ebay. Biggest thing for me, though, was being able to get road to legend - I could never justify paying the $140 or so it would cost by itself, but this way I can keep that and Altar (the two I didn't have), sell the base game and Well, and end up just about even. Also, the guy was very nice, a fellow gamer who was very friendly and knows of BGG, and was on the way to his buddy's house to play the FFG dune re-do for his buddy's birthday.
Anyway, I need to separate them all but I'm confident they're complete. Bagged and plano boxed.
Then my jaw dropped, when I spotted this on the shelf. OMG!!!! I've been wanting this one so bad! I was so excited and happy and I just couldn't believe, that I had actually found one.
Then I got home and inventoried it and found it to be missing: 7 arrows 2 Red pop-up targets 1 Yellow pop-up target And the motor makes a loud noise and stops sometimes, but am hoping to take it apart and fix that.
Oh well, maybe I'll get really lucky again some day and find another copy to complete this one.
Oh yea, it was only 3 bucks, so I guess I can't complain. I can still fiddle around with it.
The saddest part of the trip was the sign hanging in the window of the GW offering a reward for a quilt that had been accidentally donated and then purchased. It was family heirloom and they were offering $1000 as a reward.
