Ever wanted some new BGG features?

So this is it! Here's our chance please put all the update ideas below and show support for those you wish to be implemented. This is an unofficial list with the hopes that the features with the most support really do get created.

What will happen with these proposals? I do not know. All I know is that without this list perhaps none of these would ever happen or even been thought of.

Also...
I have No-Idea as to the scope of work myself and others propose here nor do I understand the cost involved to do so. I do however know that I would, if possible do the programming and upkeep myself as time permitted. I am no programmer nor IT Technician but I have a job and would gladly donate money toward these features as I know that most of them would make great editions to an already Awesome site. It is my and many others home page and that will not change if these are not added. Thank you Aldie and team for the best website on gaming that without, I may never have had so many great friends or games. As for these proposed features, Please consider.

It's possible that some of these proposals are already features. If so please let me know and I will be eternally grateful.

I will re-order the list periodically to suit popularity

CALCULATE/DISPLAY WIN PERCENTAGE

As of now we have the option to record if a game was won when recording the play, but this information is not used for anything. I propose the system calculate (either by request or on the fly) a persons Percent Won by having it divide the games won by total plays and multiplied by 100.

There would need to be an place to specify when Percent Won should be calculated from because most people don't record wins as of yet (like me) and the percentage would be inaccurate if calculated using all plays while having a BGG account.

Difficulty Ratings for Co-op and Solitaire Games

In these games, you are playing against the game, not another player. It would be helpful to know how difficult other people found the game. (I was disappointed by how easy Elder Sign was. It would have been nice to see some stats before purchasing. Yes, I know reading reviews helps, but we have game ratings in addition to reviews; why not difficulty as well?)

Group collection analysis

Using the Analysis tool I can enter a single game and see the average rating among all my geekbuddies or just a subgroup I've defined. What I'd really like is to be able to run this analysis across my collection of games, or another of my friends' collections, or even all my geekbuddies' collections merged together. The point would be to find the game that one of us owns that we all as a group like the best.

A more useful analysis would even be the variation of ratings. For example, the group would probably be happier playing a game that we all rate at 8 as opposed to one that most of us rate at 10, but one of us rates at 2. Simply averaging the rating might lead us to pick games that many love but a few loathe.

More Localisation and customisation

It would be great to be able to localise the front page so instead of seeing Ebay for the US it would be great to be able to localise it for the UK for example.

Would also be great to maybe customise the front page to move say reviews to the top of your front page and have the ability to make it bigger to show more reviews and make other categories smaller or remove them altogether if they are no interest (like sessions for me).

"Post New Geeklist Item Below This One" Option for the Creator of a Geeklist

In my personal geeklists where the order of the items matters, I'd like the ability to insert a new geeklist item at the position I want it to be. Currently, if I want a new item near the top of a geeklist, I have to post it at the bottom, and then drag it all the way up to the spot where I want it. This isn't so bad in smaller geeklists, but it does get annoying when you have to inch your new items up to the top.

Ideally, I'd like the creator of a geeklist to have access to special "Post New Geeklist Item Below This One" buttons on every item in the list, which only they can see, like the "Edit" buttons that can only be seen by the creator of a geeklist item. This would make editing these types of geeklists much easier.

Link the collections from BGG and RPGG (and VGG I guess)

Specifically, I'd like to be able to flip to, or include, the other sites when checking someone's trade list/want list/wish list.

Could be I'm missing something, but right now when I'm looking at someone's BGG trade list, if I want to see their RPG items, I tab over to RPGGeek and search for them there...especially painful as I don't always remember their username verbatim.

OK, I realize this is a petty request (and not as important as many other things on this list).

Currently, the standard view for your collection shows you the boxfront of all games. I know many people like this view, but I am one of those rare specimens that actually prefers those '3D Isometric View' photo's many publisher's create that shows the entire box from an angle, like this:

I would really like it if the box images are always divided in box_front, box_back, box_side and box_isometric and that you can select the one you prefer (and showing a default if your preferred view is not available. I think it would be a great way to customize the view of your collection.

You could take it even further an create some visually appealling default views. For instance, a view like the album view of a iPhone/iPod or a bookshelf view.

You could even add some 'dust effects' in the bookshelf view to indicate how long it's been since you've played a game.

i get easily frustrated i know, but the marketplace prices really get my goat. a number of times i have found a good deal only to find postage is off the charts.

if there could be some way that postage is included in the price shown then it would be incredibly helpful. of course people buy from outside your country.. perhaps the default should be that postage within that country (flag shown in the market) is included in the price, and that external buyers would (potentially) have to pay more.

WANT TO PLAY FINDER/MATCHER IN SAME CITY

BGG's marketplace is very good at matching up trades, finding games, etc.

But most of us don't need more games.

Most of us need more companions to play the games we already own with.

This could probably be quite easy to do by providing a notifier/matcher for folks in the same city who flag a game as 'want to play'.

I think it would be really good if the site had an algorithm for generating additional ratings that were meant for suggesting what kind of games one might be interested in. This could be done by weighing the weighings of people who rated the games you rated highly highly, to generate ratings to help personalize ratings.

To Stop Game Designers from giving themselves a 10

Really come on it's not like they are going to say their games are crap. Should game designers be allowed to rate their own games. To me that is a little underhanded. If your game is good allow the public to say so not the person who made it.

More advanced searching of plays data

For me plays data is as important as ratings data, hence my geeklist series on plays data. I'd like the feature back on stats where the plays information is easily visible, but I would also love some more advanced searching on plays - so you could track a game's play history over time for instance. It's possible to do this by user, but not by game, right now.

FASTER CHOICE AT GLANCE

In my opinion it would be beneficial to have some further subcategories in the "Reviews" section: like "Academic" Review, Component Review, Critic Review (or negative review), Comparison Review, Simple Overview and last but not least Essay Review (or artistic).

This could be shown as check-mark boxes at the bottom of any posted review where all the bggers could cast their vote for the category under which the respective review belongs best. As a result a little tag or microbadge could be attached to the title of respective review (like AR for academic review, NR for negative review, etc) and the number of thumbs up could give a color strength to the "microbadge-tag" (like gold 100 thumbs/ silver 50 thumbs/ copper 25 thumbs, etc).

To the reader unwilling to go through every single review based solely on title this would give a better choice at glance.

Also, the people's constant voting would ensure that the respective review would actually fall seamlessly in the best category/ subcategory based on its content.

If successful the system could be extended to other forum sections (general, files, strategy, photos, video reviews, etc) and it would prove itself to be very helpful especially for those game with hundreds of forum pages.

My 2c.

Be able to thumb Personal Comments

I find the comments section really useful in helping me decide whether I want to buy a game. Sometimes you really appreciate the effort someone has written to analyse the game, giving a concise summary that helps you visualise it, then allowing you to do further research and read reviews, session logs etc.
Or someone writes something that makes you genuinely laugh out loud.

These guys should get thumbs!

Looking at a picture, it would be nice to know where that image has been linked with the bgg code {ImageID=xxxxxx}.

Looking at a thread, it would be nice to know where that article has been linked with the bgg code {ThreadID=xxxxxx}.

Wiki pages know both what pages they link to, and what pages link to them.

This creates a self managing cross-reference capability which allows you to know if an image is being used in an article, or if one article gets referred to by another.
