OK everyone -- here is my first geeklisk. Please go easy on me.

Now most people are aware of the popular geeklist by Sonja of games playable with a standard deck of cards. A very useful list. At the risk of flames of piracy, I wanted to create a MASTER LIST of card games that are playable with a modified (or unmodified) STANDARD deck of cards. Modification rules include (but are not limited to):

Multiple decks of standard cards.

Marking up cards with *simple* symbols, numbers, or letters.

Addition of simple playing pieces (i.e. dominos, counters, poker chips, bits from easily aquired thrift-store games).

Variants of games playable with a single deck of cards.

Games playable with a 5-suit, 6-suit deck (i.e. rage, 6-nimmt, and similar geeklist items).

This list should NOT include the following:

(Standard card games using a single deck of cards)
***Update: as I've been adding games that require two decks, etc..., I've eliminated this restriction and am allowing ALL GAMES (EASILY) PLAYABLE WITH A STANDARD DECK OF CARDS.

The following restriction still applies:

Marking-up cards with large amounts of text (i.e. MtG) should NOT be listed.

Now a word about piracy. Please use this list as a reference to *try* out games that you may find appealing. Many of us waste a ton of money on games we have never played that we've seen on BGG that end up not beoing our cup-of-tea. This list will allow us to temporarily make some homemade versions of card games that look interesting *before* we go out and buy them. Am I making myself clear here? If you enjoy the game -- please, PLEASE support the designer.

Please add and please tip if you found this geeklist useful!

A game about creating computer programs that have to destroy each other inside a small computer memory. Each suit represents one type of computer instructions: Move, Write, Jump, Erase. A pawn for each player marks the current instruction that player will execute, affecting other instructions on the board. After executing the instruction the player must move to an adjacent instruction, and if he can't his program is destroyed, losing the game.

An abstract game of perfect information and no random elements that can be played with a standard deck of cards per player or Icehouse pyramids or a piecepack set.

A brilliantt un-released "discard your cards to win by starting, or adding to, up to 3 discard piles, each of which must be biult with cards in sequential order of number. If you can't start or add to a pile you losethat hand and points" game by Knizia.

2P
Use Ace(1) to 7 cards

Quick, demanding, with depth and lots of fun.

Beginner Designers or Game Theorists can easily experiment with the rules for winning to see the way Knizia has modified the whole experience of the game by differentiating between outcome and payoff. Or in simple English; if you just count each hand as win or lose the game is nowhere near as much fun as when you score each hand played and have the winner as the first person to reach a certain score. (Knizia suggests 6, but frankly we are not smart enough to find fun at 6 so we play to 12)

Each player holds eight cards. Seven hands are played, and on each hand each player plays one of seven melds, from one card to seven, then refills for the next hand. The different melds have different rules. Each player plays each of the seven melds once, and then you add up the scores to see who did best.

This game has 104 numbercards from 1-13 (each 8 times) in 2 colours. If you use two decks and differentiate in colour (black and red), this game is playable without the 10 special cards (which don't change that much IMHO). For the 6 row placement cards, you could use just about anything.

Rivers is a standard deck playing card game for two to four players.

Numbered cards (A-10) are referred to as river cards; the number is equal to the fish in that river card. Face cards (J,Q,K) are fishermen and anglers used to score additional points. Depending on when the face card is played determines whether the card is a fisherman or angler.

For setup, shuffle the deck(s) and begin to flip over the top card of the deck until three river cards have been revealed. For 3 or 4 players reveal four river cards. If any face cards were revealed shuffle them back into the deck. Place the river cards, side by side, in a row. Each card is a new river source. Each player is dealt 5 cards as their hand. The group determines who the starting player is.

Players will take turns placing river cards or face cards from their hand to a flowing river or contested river on the board.

A flowing river starts from a river source card placed on the board; the combined sum of all river cards in a flowing river represents its fish population. Adding river cards to a flowing river increases its fish population, and once the fish population reaches a certain level that river is completely populated with fish and the player scores points. But be careful, if a player overpopulates a river it becomes contested and other players can steal those points!

A face card played on a flowing river is a fisherman, if a player's fisherman is at the river when that player completely populates it they receive bonus points and any opposing player's fishermen on that river are removed from the game. A face card played on a contested river is an angler, the player with the most anglers at a contested location at the end of the game steals those points from the other players!

The player with the most points at the end of the game wins.

Official rules in PDF format are here.

Unlike traditional WAR, cards are not revealed at random. Instead, players are able to choose the card or cards they would like to play in a variety of combinations. As each battle is fought, the losing side loses their cards and victory will come to the player with cards left standing. Trying to keep your best cards together could be a great strategy but beware the Royal Assassins and the Suicide Bomber disguised as the Aces and Joker respectively.

Provided that you sleeve pairs of cards, you can play this game using a cardrack. In stead of looking at the suits, just look at the numbers.
