This is supposed to be a list of the games for which copies of the rules and all the appropriate parts (cards, counters, boards etc) are available on BGG or elsewhere on the internet. If you know of more, please add them!

Lest I be accused of encouraging copyright violation, I'm only interested in seeing games that are OOP and hard to find. It's a good way to try them!

There are a couple of lists a bit like this which contain some more excellent candidates for make-it-yourself games:

Bleeding Sherwood and Huzzah can be downloaded from the Cheapass website. They're orderware, which means you promise to buy a Cheapass game. Since Devil Bunny Needs a Ham retails for $2, that isn't much of a burden. I haven't played Huzzah, but Bleeding Sherwood is a nice, funny auction game. Print it on colored cardstock and your copy will be the same quality as the original, or even better.

A simple 6x6 board, 4 each of 1,2,3 markers, you can have your own Gyges game. Which is a good thing, given its limited availability. A lot of the abstracts like this probably fit on this list, though

Repainting old deluxe scrabble sets seems to be a popular way to make this game.

Instead, I used a vinyl go board cut down to size with thin black tape marking the quadrants, five colors of bingo chips with stickers on them, and some black tiles from an old copy of "Bialogue" (just the right size).

This looks like a really nice P&P pick for Halloween game parties. Card-based games usually make excellent P&P choices because of the limited work involved - print out onto decent quality cardboard, 15 minutes work with scissors and you're done!

I've posted this somewhere on another geeklist but for your convenience I'll repost it here as well.

Not owning WHQ is no problem, you can get the pdf rules from the files page here at BGG. For the boards you can use anything with tiles on it (as long as they're the correct size). You can find other rooms & corridors on the web or download them (pretty cheap) from www.rpgnow.com, if I'm not mistaken they even have a few free tilesets available. You can use tiles from Mageknight or
Heroquest or similar games as well.
Alternativeley check the tilemaker at http://www.cs.may.ie/~jkeating/mapmaker/
The only thing you'll still need is treasure, I found this on the web: http://www.kestrelarts.com/text/wqtreas.doc
Using this document you can invent your own treasure as well!
Use your WH fantasy mini's or go buy some new ones.

There it is! Your (almost) instant print and play version of WHQ, happy dungeoneering!

Ps: While your surfing; check out the WHQ museum site as well for more downloadable goodies!

Great simulation of the political struggles that lead to World War One. Used as a teaching aid in many classes since it was written more than 30 years ago.

Thanks to Jim Dunnigan, the author, you can d/l the rules here at the geek. You really need nothing else but that and poker chips, although I have uploaded some counter images to help with play. A map of the area and countries in question can be made at home (or d/led here at some future date by some nice creator) for more fun as well.

I would say this is the easiest to make with about $4. Buy to packs of cards that have the same back. Take out all the aces and take one suit from the other pack of cards. Throw out the other suits and de-face the suit you picked. Just make them like blobs or something. Then use the face cards as investment cards. You have your game.

The files to download this as a print-and-play just went up . It's my newest baby (or monster) and is meant to feel like an old Metagaming of Task Force SF wargame. Mine-Shaft Gap (hmm, that shortens to MSG...) is a tactical combat and mining game that takes place above, on, and below ground on a lifeless, rocky planetoid. The alternate title could be "Subterranean Homesick Blues."

Here's my latest design. All the necessary files are available for download from the BGG entry. Like pretty-much all of my games, this one is similar (I hope) to a 1980s "microgame." It's a hex-and-counter SF-ish wargame simulating a battle between the U.S. navy and the forces of the city of Atlantis. I can't say I'm completely happy with it - I struggled with the mechanism for depicting depth using just a 2D map, and eventually went with the only thing I came up with - but I'm certain somebody else could come up with a much better idea! There are things about the design I do like, such as the plethora of Atlantean units, including command and subalterns, and "dispersal" as a combat result (I was looking for an alternative to the old boring "damaged" result - "flip the counter over and it cannot move or attack for one turn" - and the always unsatisfying retreat). Map and counters use the awesome milpics font plus a bunch of clip art.
