This is a geeklist, where I'll collect little session reports on playthrough of The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game. I will play each scenario with the same deck that I'm modifying on the run. I'm more than happy for any advice with the deck and I'd like it very much, if you challenged my deck: "why is that there?", "wouldn't this be better?" - I will try to explain why I picked each card and prolly get way better ideas from you! I'll play each scenario only once and at the end I'll see how I did. The deck I'm playing is a Lore/Leadership deck

Decklist

Heroes

Bifur
Gloin
Dain Ironfoot

Allys

3xSnowbourn Scout
3xErebor Record Keeper
1xHenaamarth Riversong

3xMiner of the Iron Hills
3xErebor Hammersmith
2xGleowine

3xDunenaid Watcher
3xRivendell Minstrel
3xLongbeard Map-Maker
2xDaughter of the Nimrodel

2xLongbeard Orc Slayer
2xFaramir

3xGandalf

Non-allys

3xSneak Attack
3xLegacy of Durin
2xSong of Wisdom (One was Narvi's Belt)
1xSong of Kings

3xSteward of Gondor

2xSelf Preservation
2xForest Snare
1xLure of Moria

I'll allow one hero swap/scenario, since some scenarios are just rediccolous without a certain hero, but if that's not the case, I'll be playing with Bifur, Gloin and Dain. Hope you enjoy this!

Passage through Mirkwood

In the beginning Dain was named the Steward of Gondor, he got some Wisdom from a song and two Erebor Record Keepers joined my journey to the forest. Pretty much everybody went questing and some Bats scared the band of dwarfs - especially since they attacked the band with the Forest Spider and the're was just a glimpse or a shadow of Ungolith Spawn..

On the next turn heroes stayed back to fight the monsters while Gleowine and Record Keepers wandered off to quest. They told that there was a Chieftain Ufthak camping on the road, but they wouldn't have to mind him quite yet... Faramir - another fellow that joined the band defended the dwarfs against the spider while the bat once again hit right through damaging Gloin again... Strike was so powerful that Dain no longer was Steward of Gondor... That happens apparently. Gloin and Bifur took Down the spider. Dain got so mad for the loss of his title, that he butchered the bats himself.

On the third turn people gained their trust back and renamed Dain once again as the steward. Dwarfs were in hurry, so they recruited one more fellow to the band and a seasoned Longbeard Map-Maker joined the quest force.

Everything was going nicely, so dwarfs decided to hire a Minstrel from Rivendel to sing a Song of Kings to the band... However she was too eager to quest to actually sing the song quite yet... Questing went nicely, until the shadow of Spawn materialized and in front of them was an enormous Spawn that was the only thing blocking the way forward... Ungoliath Spawn brought a Forest Spider with it and slayed poor Gleowine on a single bite... Faramir survived with a scare from the strike of the Forest Spider, but a shadow of Hummerhorns killed all the lightweights from the band...

On the following turn no one cared to quest anymore - it was all about this monster! Dain got cought in a web and the noice the band made was enough to draw the attention of the Chiftain Ufthak... Forest Spider hit straight through and damaged Dain a bit, but nothing too sewere. Brave Snowbourn Scout sacrificed himself to save others from the Ufthak and everybody else attacked the Forest Snared Spawn dealing just enough damage to kill it.

Afterthoughts

Surprisingly bad start to the campaing... It seems that the deck really lacks in combat - maybe I need to add some Gildors or something. Resource generation worked very well: Steward of Gondors are very powerful, Bifur can fix Leadership recources to Lore and Gloin can take some spankin with the healing cards available. Deck also struggles with mass damage, since many of the allys have just 1 hp. There are also absolutely no ways to deal with treacheries, which will cause some problems later...

Score

Won, 42 points + rounds.

Journey along the Anduin

In the beginning the dwarfs saw some Dol Guldur Orcs wandering near the Necromancer's Pass, but the real problem was a looming Hill Troll in the distance. Dain sang a song of Kings and Erebor Hammersmith joined the band. Everyone but Dain went questing, since they definately didn't want to meet the troll quite yet. Dol Guldur Goblins got together with Misty Mountain Goblins and they attacked. Dain blocked one of them, while Gloin got small wounds.

On the next round Daughter of Nimrodel came and healed Gloin and the band quested forward. Gloin and Dain stayed back to kill some goblins, that no one cared to defend against - both took some hits, but the tougher of the two goblins got slayed. They were back to square one, since the only progress token got erased.

The band had a lot of resources since the constant beatings on Gloin, so they recruitted Faramir and Erebor Hammersmith to join. Erebor brought with him a Forest Snare that got lost in the Necromancer's Pass - and just in time, since on the next turn the Hill Troll would attack. Faramir, Dain and Gloin stayed back to deal with the Orcs while the healer did her job on Gloin. The plan of Dwarfs to not make any progress apparently paid off, since they got some Despair, but that didn't bother 'em at all. Faramir defended against the orcs but the band got surprised by a Wolf Rider, that once again damaged Gloin, before fleeing back to the forest. Gloin and Dain made sure those orcs wouldn't come back and now the only thing on their way was the giant Troll.

Finally Dain got named the Steward of Gondor again and the healer did her job. Everybody knew that the Wolf Rider would attack again together with the troll, so they made some careful calculations about the questing... For that they got a Longbeard Map-Maker that knew his math. Ultimately the band decided that he should go alone for the quest, while the rest would fight their battle with the monsters. No progress was made, but now the coast was clear for the epic battle with the troll. Faramir blocked Wolfriders while one of the Hammersmiths saved the band by luring the troll away from others - sadly dying in the process. There were 3 Dwarf heroes attacking the troll and yet they managed only little wounds on him... "We must trap him!" was the order from Dain.

Sound of the battle made it a bit more difficult to move secretly, but that didn't matter too much. Erebor Record Keeper was interested about the Snared troll, so he joined the club. Gloin quested, just to be brought back by the Record Keeper, luckily he just found the river bank, so they headed on the Banks of Anduin. making a little bit of progress on the quest. They killed the troll and wandered forth.

Gloin had taken so much beatings in the past that he decided to carry on with some Self Preservation, while the healer made sure no one had any wounds left. Only Dain and Faramir stayed back to keep company to Record Keeper. Some Crows and Orcs attacked them, but that didn't bother the band too much. Record Keeper called Gloin back to defend against the Orcs on the raft they just embarked.

On the following turn just Faramir, Record Keeper, Dain and the Healer stayed back, while the rest went questing with the new friend, Rivendell Mistrel - which was good, since the threat got raised one for each. Raft got close to the bank of Anduin, but that didn't really matter. They were just one step away from the end and the crows got killed by Dain.

They had vast recources, so they only send two map makers and Gloin for the quest. Evil Storm killed the weaklings, while the band got ambushed... By only a single Dol Guldur Beastmaster, that killed last Hammersmith and got sewere wound from Faramir, Bifur and Dain.

Beastmaster was snared and killed with ease. It was done!

Score

Won, threat 40, 2 wounds, 4 from the killed Hill Troll.

Escape from Dol Guldur

Gloin was imprisoned (luckily him...) and Dain and Bifur had to go and try to rescue him. All the cards were hidden in locations: Necromancer's Pass, Great Forest Web and Endless Cavers+Mountas of Mirkwood. Dain got legacy of Durin and they met Record Keeper again. Dain stayed back, but they met Dungeon Jailor that hid one of the objectives... Yey!

They gained a Hammersmith to follow them, but still failed to succeed in the quest. Dain decided to get the freaking Jailor on him, but it was too late, since two objectives were gone already. Dol Guldur Beastmaster joined the fight and everything looked hopeless...

I couldn't actually play anything but the Steward of Gondor and wait for the death... Got Schakles on and Dain was one wound from the death with 44 threat - and zero progress tokens so far...

On the next turn Gandalf came, but didn't help too much... Lost it, with 0 progress tokens.

Afterthoughts

There was absolutely nothing to do... This scenario isn't for single player, or the has to be really tuned for this... Can't really say anything I could have done to actually win this...

Score

Lost, badly.

The Hunt for Gollum

Gandalf had resurrected the heroes or something, since they were up and about hunting for Gollum. Start was much easier now: Pursued by Shadow did nothing and all they saw in front was the Banks of Anduin. Henamarth showed that there were no monsters coming up, so Dain got a Song of Wisdom and Legacy of Durin and they quested. River Ninglor came up since the speedy questing and the band travelled there.

Gleowine joined dwarfs and had to quest with Gloin adn Bifur in order to get rid of the nasty River - Henamarth told that there was a goblin coming up. Dain blocked and on the following turn they got rid of the Banks and the Goblin, while Gloin generated some resources on the process.

They made some hasty progress with Snowbourne Scout and some Minstrell joining the gang. There was still a huge lack of dwarfs, that baffled Dain... Faramir joined and all but Dain and him quested, after Henamarth showed that nothing dangerous was on the way. They made it to the next step, but they still hadn't got their hands on any signs of Gollum... Now they got another dwarf anyway and Gloin got some Self Preservation. They encoutered hunters from Mordor, that they damaged greatly.

They got 3 new comrades and were a total of 13 - Gandalf wouldn't like the number... They got rid of all the problems in the way and they were at the West Bank... Where is Gollum? Since there was still no sign of him. Band quested very carefully, so they wouldn't end up to the last stage and then back here again. Finally a sign, that actually did nothing, since threat was only 34. They followed the lead to the end.

The end was breeze - they were already band of 14 with Faramir and Dain, yet Gandalf showed up to lower the threat and make sure they'd find the true sign of Gollum.

Afterthoughts

Nothing special - it was very easy and there were no problems in the way. Henamarth is kinda awesome... Wouldn't mind some more card drawing, since this deck generates nice ammount of resources... I will change the Narvis's Belt to a song - there's no need for the extra cost.

Score

Won, Threat 30, no wounds, no VP.

Conflict at the Carrock

Start was very nice indeed! Steward of Gondor on Dain and Erebor Hammersmith and Song of Wisdom out. Along came Wolf Rider that brought with it Bee Pastures. Dain blocked and Gloin finnished the rider. Grimbeorn was already found and now I just needed to get him convinced that he should follow us.

Map-Maker joined us and Misty mountain Goblins attacked, helping us a bit with the quest. With the damage taken from a shadow driven Goblins I was able to play Self Preservation on him and convince Brimbeorn to join us soon after.

The next turns band went very carefully, so they wouldn't annoy the trolls yet. They got Faramir to join and Gloin got sacked. On the next turn threat was 31 and everyhing looked good for the encouter. Sneak Attacking Gandalf lowered the threat in the combat phase. Louis was optionally engaged raising the threat to 29 again. He was easily killed, with Grimbeorn, Gandalf, Gloin and two other dwarfs while Dain gave the orders.

On the next turn Gandalf shot a bolt to Stuart making him bleed badly, he was finnished in the combat and the band just gained size. The next turn almost everyone quested (just Faramir, Dain and Grimbeorn stayed back)... Luckily, since a Muck Adder attacked. Faramir defended against it and Grimbeorn took one more hit from the troll - Morris this time. Grimbeorn killed the Adder, while Morris was left with full health.

Morris was snared and there was just Rupert looming on the hill top. Questing was very minimal, but still just enough to make the needed counter on the quest. Rupert was engaged and killed with ease and on the last turn there was just poor snared Morris, that got comppanied by Muck Adder that killed Gleowine. All the rest killed Morris and the quest was done!

Afterthoughts

I got pretty lucky with my card draws - both on the encounter deck and on my player deck. Grimbeorn to the staging are on the turn 1 and Steward of Gondor functional... No Hill Trolls and Muck Adders were dealt quickly.

Journey to Rhosgobel

For this scenario I switched in 3 Lore of Imlardis for 3 Snowbourn Scouts.

I got a Song on Dain and two Record Keepers on at the first turn, I quested heavily to get to Rhosgobel as soon as possbile. I quested for 11 and Dol Guldur Orcs did 2 damage to Gloin giving me resourves and attackd Dain - the only one still ready. I got to Rhosgobel already and decided to try and rush it...

I got 8 tokens on the quest on second turn and actually got my second Lore of Imlardis to hand. Willy had 6 wounds so I started the turn turn with confidence. Everybody but Willy, Faramir and Dain quested - Dol Guldur Beastmaster came up making a total threat of 5, with Mountains of Mirkwood as active location. Gloin, Bifur and two Record keepers made it 10, while Faramir boosted it to 14, made it to the final with 2 extra WP and played the Lores making Willy clean, even without any Athelases available.

Afterthoughts

Well, that was fast... Couldn't have done it without the sideboarding, thou. Quested fast and even thou I didn't get the Stewardship, Gloin provided me the extra resources needed.

Hills of Emyn Muil

Got to a strange start, with Steward of Gondor on Bifur and Minstrells searching for Song of Kings... I quested enough to make the quest, but still lacked "a few" VPs... Travelled to Amon Hen and on the next turn got Legacy of Durin out and Miners to join the band.

On the following turn the band grew, Faramir, Gleowine, Dunedain watchers and so on joined and the only opponent for some time was a band of Orc Horse Thieves... It got company from Dol Guldur Orcs and even thou it was at the Rauros Falls, it really didn't matter - Gloin healed himself after the first attack and on the following turn the rest.

There went a lot of turns and I builded two huge bands of dwarfs. Everyone but heroes quested all the time. One band was destroyed by a rockslide, but at that point I had so much resources and so many cards that it didn't even slow me down. Gandalf lowered my threat a total of 5 times (two Sneak Attacks). Finally I got the needed 20 points (21 actually) and my threat was only 23 at the point.

Afterthoughts

This is a boring scenario and it turned out to be very, very easy with this deck. Dunedain Watcher saved my attachements once, which was nice of her. Sneak Attack and Gandalf is a very nice and versatile combo.

Score

Won, 23 threat, 21 VP

The Dead Marshes

Start was nice, once again, Steward of Gondor on Dain and Miners to join the band. Wolf Riders attacked the band and they failed the check on Gollum (3-3) Dain killed Wolves and on they went.

Gloin had some extra resources so Faramir joined us and Bifur got one from Dain to make Minstrell next turn. There were some nasty tests on Gollum, but all went well - but the last one, that made Gollum get the 3rd and 4th token... He was a slippery little bastard! Band got Minstrel, a song and Self Preservation on Gloin.

The game went on and on and on and on... and on. I think I took a total of 2 threat rise from cards and ended up with 42 threat. I once used Gandalf to lower it, but other came from the turn rises. I actually lost Gollum once when the deck was quite thin already and went back to 1B... It was no problem, since I had questing power of pretty much what I wanted: a lot of allys, Faramir, a LOT of resources and Erebor Record-Keepers... Finally the Gollum came back and I finnished it with ease.

Afterthoughts

It was propably dumb to stall the game, to get an easy draw on the final test - the first time I tried it, it was my 11 vs. 7 cards (not on my terms, but forced, 'cos I could have lost him other way)... Gollum slipped away, since I draw only cards with Escape (inc. 4 and 5)... If I just rushed it, I could prolly have won it a way earlier. I beat 2 Impassable Bogs on the way, so questing really wasn't a problem.

Return to Mirkwood

Dain got tangeled to a web in the beginning, even thou he was a Steward of Gondor again and carried the Legacy of Durin. Goblin Sniper engaged us while Bifur and Gloin quested. And Gollum took some damage from Sniper, since Dain wanted to kill it.

Band expanded with some Hammersmiths and Dunedain Watcher on the following turns and they made nice progress on the quest. Suddenly an Ungoliant's Spawn appeared - didn't we already kill this one once? It bit the head of from Hammersmith but wasn't quite enough to disrupt the quest from going forward...

My threat was already 43, so a Sneaky Gandalf helped a bit, but the Spawn was a major threat... I was just about snare it, when I got to a phase, where I couldn't play any cards - and I got the Miners to free Dain from the web... Just a turn too late. I had very little questing power and the East Bight didn't help at all... Spawn killed two allys in two turns and Gollum's Anguish got my threat so high that the next turn turned out to be my last one.

Afterthoughts

Not the easiest one solo... Would have been better if I got some resource fixers, but there was none, so I was stuck with wrong mana... Prolly should have played Steward on Bifur on this one...

Into the Pit

Started off with a song on Dain, but no Stewardship. Legacy of Durin and Hammersmith got me going, but a nasty Goblin Follower did his best to spoil my fun. It took surprisingly many rounds to get to the 2B and I had to snare a Patrol Leader to save my band...

Steward of Gondor kickstarted my resource generation and Faramir came to ease the problem on questing. Longbeard Ord Slayer came in handy when the goblins started to pile up (well, there were 3...) and they were quickly taken care of. Everything looked like a smooth sailing, but on the turn I was supposed to beat the scenario a Dreadful Gap opened in front of me with 11 points that had to be placed on it... Not too nice! It was cleared, since Faramir, lot of Dwarfs and Dain tend to do that and the once location stagnated table was almost empty...

The only problem was my threat that was already 27 and doomed 2 + surge card didn't help at all... Luckily the surged card didn't raise my threat and had threat of 2, so my final push was just enough to take the 12th token on the 3B... One more threat on the last card and I would have been done.

Afterthoughts

At some point it looked a bit hopeless as the locations piled up, but the willpower with boosts was enough to take care of that... No Gandalfs during the game, which made it that much harder... All and all, it was very tight, even with a bad draw. Good draw and no problems.

The Seventh Level

Very good start - once again! Steward of Gondor, Legacy of Durin and Record Keeper - that got me a wisdom Song to attach to Dain. I was set for the adventure. Bifur was carrying the book and all but Dain Quested, since the first probelm was a location that had raised the threat by 2... And that nice start turned to a nightmare. Orc Hornblower that got a Cave-Troll and a Goblin Scout...

Failed quest got the threat so high that the Troll attacked Dain... And the shadow was Goblin Swordman... So on turn 2 I had threat of 35, 3 monsters in the staging area and a Troll beating my band... Didn't look too good. I tried to draw something good with a Miner, but nothing good came out - I thinned the deck with Minstrel and then I was done...

Yeah, I was done - there was nothing to do, Troll beat my dwarfs and threat rised so that all but the Hornblower attacked. Nothing to do, got beaten.

Afterthoughts

Bad draw, couldn't have won it anyway... Forest Snare might have got me some more turns, but not a victory.

Score

Lost, badly.

Flight from Moria

Steward for the start again, also Henamarth and some resources to spare... Crumbling ruins didn't do anything but exhaust Dain but a Stray Goblin attacked Gloin and got a shadow effect that almost killed him... But on the other hand: 3 resources! Got to the last place first, but bypassed it, since there were no tools...

The second turn I had a lot of resources so I played Minstrels, song on Dain, Map-Maker and Dunedain Watcher. The shadow effect on Stray Goblin was the Abandoned tools, dammit. Henamarth told me what to expect, so I quested what needed plus one. Narrow Paths turned out and I got the Toold back... hehe.

Toold were guarded by Dreadful Gap - again... On the following turn Dain got Shadow of Fear, that was no problem at all... Questing was what it needed to be, so that the Gap was cleared and toold claimed.

Few turns passed and the Blocked by shadow gave me an opportunity to gamble - that I didn't want to take, since I had the tools and only few cards before the final phase would become active again... Next came Hasty Council that got me to the last phase... Now I only needed to avoid the shuffle-effect for 4 turns...

Sudden Pitfall took Minstrel and I got the second token on the Escape... Next turn all exhausted characters suffered 2 damage that jeopardized Bifur - the next one was going to be another one of those, so I drew a card using Gleowine, commited just enough to the quest and played the Lure of Moria to ready everyone but poor Gleowine... On the next exhaust phase I got the 4th counter - but not before I used the end of the last round to double sneak attack Gandalf to lower the threat to 25.

Afterthoughts

Was surprisingly easy - got a bit lucky again I guess... Henamarth is a livesaver - gotta get another and maybe even 3rd of him to the deck.

The Redhorn Gate

Started with a song on Gloin and Gleowine to table. Everyone but Dain and Gleowine quested. Rocky Crags damaged Gloin and gave resources, while Gleowine drew a card - yet the quest failed by 2... Three locations on the staging area. On the next turn I got another Song, for Dain this time and two cheap dwarfs to quest. Everyone but Dain and Gleowine went forth again.

Black Uruks came to snoop around, but it wasn't going to get attacked because of the Turbulent Waters. After some rounds of pointless questing with slow progress Dain got the Stewardship again and the Uruks attacked finally.

Few turns passed and the band got new members from Faramir, Minstrels and dwarfs of whom some died on the journey. After a long and tiresome questing band finally reached Caradhas and got just enough to travel over it... Mountain Wargs attacked and just to be sure I had to Sneak Attack Minstrels to defend - I didn't want to lose Dain to bad shadow effect...

On the next turn I had nine questers, Dain and Faramir so it wasn't too hard to make it to the end.

Afterthoughts

Questing is easy, but combat still needs something... It's frustraring to realize, that to strike 5 on one turn, I need to drop a lot of questing power... Gildors might really be good here.

Road to Rivendell

Started off with Legacy of Durin and made 5 progress with an irrelevant encouter card. Next turn Faramir and Dunedain Watcher joined the band and the regulars stayed back to deal with possible problems. Questing went with breeze and a lot of dwarfs joined the band.

Goblin Taskmasters kept harrasing the band, but Gandalf killed one of those and onward they went. Gandalf killed another Taskmaster later on, before it was damaged by an Orc Slayer. Soon it was time to Approach Rivendell and forget all about the monsters that were engaged with the band - Dain stayed back to boost the band of 12 heroes and allys, Faramir gave the little extra and ultimately it wasn't even close.

Luckily I avoided the worst treacheries and especially the shadow cards and made it relatively easy - much easier than on the first try with two decks...

Afterthoughts

I didn't think I would win this before the game - was so hard with 2 decks, but with a luckyish draw it wasn't too hard after all. Got a lot of dwarfs and the utility cards early on.

The Watcher in the Water

For this one I swapped Bifur to the true Steward of Gondor, Denethor - it would be too random without him.

Started off with Snowbourn Scout and Song of Wisdom on Gloin, because of the Grasping Tentacle on the water near by... No one cared to quest and the threat rised 2 because of the tentacle and 5 because of the treachery... Tentacle stroke through and Scout and Gloin slayed it, with Scout getting a meaningless attachement.

Two next turns were very good! Dunedain Watcher, Miner and healer joined the gang together with a map-maker. The only problem was the very slow progress on the quest due the hardish locations... Gandalf Sneaked on a tentacle killing it. Then, the next card was going to be a attachment, that could be removed by another hero - everyone with any willpower but Dain and Denethor quested and made it to the end. Watcher killed the Scout and they were set. Denethor showed a Grasping tentacle so Gandalf was good to open the door!

Watcher was snared just for humiliation and everyone quested to make it easily through. Thank you Denethor!

Afterthoughts

A bit slowish with two heroes holding back, but Denethor ability is just insane, especially in this scenario.

That's it

This is all the expansions I currently own and unfortunately I can't go forward before I get the missing expansions. Here are some stats from the games:

Played: 15
Won: 12 (80%)
Lost: 3 (20%)

Best score: 2 (Hills of Emyn Muil)
Worst succesful score: 42 (Into the Pit)
Dead Heroes: 0 (apart from the ones in the lost games)

Card swaps: 4 (3 for one scenario, 1 full time)
Hero swaps: 1 (Bifur->Denethor for The Watcher in the Water)

So, what do you think? I had blast doing this and it took me a whole day. In the end it was a bit tiresome to write down the actions so I took only the most important parts. Hope you enjoyed it!
