Look at your plays for the month of August, and then check out the games and see if you can find any games where you are currently the solitary logger of a play for August (or if the other loggers were actually in the same game session with you.) Use your common sense in order to make the search faster. Obviously things like Dominion, Magic, etc. will have plenty of people playing them. Note: expansions that only you logged are fine, feel free to add them as well.

Then share any comments you might have. Are we missing something? How could this happen? What is your opinion of the game?

I'm a fan of this "game" as a discussion starter with teens. It's definitely more of an activity, I'm not sure why it's inside the scope of BGG, but as long as it is I'll keep logging my plays.

I have some items to add this month.

Yes, Perfection is lame. There is no way I'd be playing it myself. However, I have two daughters, a three year old and a 16 month old. The play I recorded this month was the first time that all three of us have "played" this game together.

My three year old is at the perfect stage to have a decent shot at getting the pieces all matched before the timer goes off. With the younger sister helping, there was no hope for success, but they both thought it was hilarious when the board popped and all the pieces flew out.

Entertainment value for adults? Zero at best.

Entertainment value for parents with young children? At least as much as any other shape matching toy!

I have one this month! There are 6 plays listed this month - 5 of them are mine, and the other is from my friend that I played with. And I don't think he'll read this. So I'm counting it!

This is a light and fun new game from Susan McKinley Ross that I'll talk more about in my NTY entry. Fast, takes 2 minutes to teach, and a solid price point. I can see this getting regular play in the future for us.

My wife and I are the only ones to record a play for this one. It is a self published game. We met the developer at AnCon where he had entered it into an Indie Developer competition. He won.

It is a fun game that is for 3 players. Last I heard he is retooling it so that it can be played 2-4 players. I believe that he is going to try and get it published by a more mainstream publisher or perhaps do the kickstarter route.

Yep, Yahtzee Junior.

As the image suggests, we have the Disney Princess version. My three year old loves it.

What I loved about the play I recorded this month was this was the first time she understood the concept of keeping some dice back and rolling the rest on the second and third roll. Previously she always wanted to shove all the dice back in the shaker and let 'em rip.

Maybe I'm blowing this out of proportion, but it seems like a huge developmental step. Understanding the specific goal (rolling Cinderellas instead of the other princesses) and making a connection to a course of action (save the Cinderellas that are already rolled and roll all the non-Cinderellas) has applications outside of gaming for sure.

Of course, it also means we're one step closer to family games of Twilight Imperium.

Let the Junior games continue! This game is really not a game - it's more of a preschool assignment dressed up as a game. I like to get it out with my three year old for a couple minutes before moving onto other games.

This game pushes kids to recognize different letters and understand that putting letters together will make words. For example, we spelled "bear" and she picked the "r" out first because she knows that's the first letter of her name.

It's extremely cool to see her start to learn some of the ideas that grownups take for granted!

I feel very blessed to own a copy of this excellent children's game. The board and pieces are delightful to look at and my daughter loves the topic (we simply call this "The Animal Game.")

From a development perspective, this game requires rolling a die and moving that many spaces along a choice of paths - I would describe it as a "non-linear roll-and-move." The goal is to pick up one each of three kinds of food and then take it home to your animal's burrow.

My daughter loves playing as the rabbit, and I rotate between the squirrel, badger, and hedgehog.

Our play this month was a partial - the 16 month old decided to investigate and literally sat on the board. Game over!

After months of seeing others post this game to this list, I finally got it back to the table. There's usually at least one person (of the 7 or 8 playing) who doesn't really "get" the game -- which is a shame.

I think it fits the bumper car theme perfectly -- for every situation, you can relate what physically happens at an amusement park bumper card ride to what happens in the game.

I can't believe this really fun, recently released, mainstream party game is on this list.

My family humors me on long car rides by sometimes letting me listen to Dice Tower podcasts. Tom Vasel mentioned this new party game in a July podcast and my wife said "that sounds fun". Given that she usually just says "you have that game, don't you", I immediately tracked down a copy.

I brought it to our annual summer game event. There are a few players who *hate* party games (e.g. trivia, drawing, acting, etc.). I thought this game might be a palatable party game for them since it didn't involve any of these. It was a big hit!

As Tom Vasel said, the fun of the game is listening to why folks picked the pairs that they did -- ignore the game rules which says you don't have to do this.

This month's list:

Kardinal & König: Das Kartenspiel remains, IMHO, better than the board game from which it was derived. It's not shorter or simpler than the board game, unlike many card game implementations, but is actually a deeper game IMHO.

Arriala: Canal de Garonne was suggested as I enjoy Canal Mania and canals in general. Didn't do much for me, though.

Troia is, IMHO, a fantastically evocative game, and one I love to get to the table. I believe it might be on Brian Bankler's burn-on-site list, though...

Floriado remains a great little two player game, easily my favorite game of the type.

Friesematenten is one of my least favorite games I own; I keep it because it does such interesting things, and having one of the scarce English copies I know that if I let it go, I'll likely not see another. And, to be honest, it is growing on me.

Rocketville is a game that I enjoy, as do many of the folks I play with; it certainly goes over better, in general, than Cubus or Bongo!.

Wow, really short list this month. A lot of games recorded by only 1 or 2 folks, but there are always a bunch of those (and, to a surprising extent, they seem to be the _same_ folks), but only the six, and a good chance of no late additions.

Looks like I am the only player this month for Disney Pictureka.

Played a few games with my four year old son (and a few games where Mommy joined in).

I haven't played original Pictureka, so I can't compare, but from an adult's perspective, it doesn't offer anything too exciting.

It's a race to find the pictured items either before your opponents or before the timer runs out. Some of the cards are simply a picture as in 'find the teacup'. Otherwise, it may be a clue where you may have to 'find 5 monsters'.

This is a bit of a slippage in the game. What determines a 'monster' for instance. My son pointed to the scary cartoony pirates as a monster. I'm not telling him its not, per se, a monster.

I will say, both of us greatly prefer Spot it! to this one.

Anyways is the latest from the Ragnar Brothers (History of the World, Canal Mania, Angola etc.), a word-game that is great Scrabble-training for learning those 2's and 3-letter hooks.

The gist is that - as you might guess from the title, words score in all eight directions. But you can only place one tile at a time!

Steeplechase is the latest from the fertile mind of Gavin Birnbaum, the man behind the delightfully mad Cubiko.

This one is a bit more nasty, though - there's a bit of blind bidding and some outright screwage. Plus, it's a great party game, playing up to 10P in no more than 20 minutes.

Well, I went to WBC this month, which means I got to game with friends I see far too seldom. In the end, we played six games no one else around these parts has logged (not even any of my fellow players):

Cyrano -- I only get to play this in person (PBM don't count in my book) at conventions with these friends. As always, we had a fine time.

It's Anybody's Guess -- Not to be confused with Anybody's Guess, which one other person logged this month, this is some other party game. I'd have to look at my geek list to figure out what the difference is.

The Match Game -- Remember the old TV game show? No, not the one with Richard Dawson and Jaye P Morgan. The one way before that. Well, this was the boxed game, which is much like What Were You Thinking, only with structure (e.g. "Finish the phrase: Forgot to wear his ________").

Mona Lisa Mysteries -- I think this is a great game, complete with bluffing. Sadly, it goes a bit too far by having silly chaotic cards. Take those out and you have a fun, quick game.

Pants on Fire -- Two truth and a lie (alternately, two lies and a truth). You learn some interesting things about people while playing this game (participated in a sex video?).

Pop Belly -- We actually only played a couple of turns of this Klaus Teuber kid game before a table freed up, allowing us to move to a better place and play a game with more players.
