While looking over the offerings on Regai's Junk Math Trade list, I was struck with horror at the disembodied horse heads pictured for one of the games. This got me thinking about all the other potential nightmare fodder lurking in game boxes.

I'm not talking about game bits that are simply unattractive, or of substandard quality, or vaguely annoying. What games have bits that give you such a wiggins that you fear to see them when you close your eyes?

Not only that, but they don't appear to be uniform in their depiction. While the brown one is clearly meant to represent a detached "bust" of a horse, the two on the left just kind of melt down into the base like a quickly-sketched Lovecraftian image.

It determines movement and storms (which fits reasonably well thematically; one can imagine headwinds or tailwinds impacting speed, and storms stopping progress). It's actually rather clever, because it's a randomization device that can easily be tuned for the number of players.

Here's a little clown story:

Our local Little League held its Opening Day ceremonies where they have a cookout, parade, raffle etc. The highlight for the kids is to have the announcer say their name when they run out onto the field.

This year someone had the idea of hiring a Clown to make it even more festive.

The Clown stood at the gate to the field and when the announcer said the kid's name, he or she had to run by the clown and give him a high five to get onto the field.

I wish I had a picture of the line of kids waiting to go onto the field--I'll never forget the look of fear and dread when they realized they'd have to pass by that clown.
