Looking for short, good war games for two.

Before you snort - I am not kidding.
This is EASILY the BEST, SHORT, 2 player war game made.

Using the first year scenario and the BPA weather rules, this is a short, EXCITING game. The first year scenario is easily do-able in an evening.
Personally, for the longer game, I like the sudden death victory conditions, which also creates 'shorter' games. (Not as short as this list requires, I suspect.)

I am not sure if you want chit-only or if block games are acceptable, but for a short, fun game (if you choose not to go with ASL
) I would definitely recommend this one.

Another game short enough for an after-work/ after school evening game, or for tourney play. A bit abstract, but lots of excitement!

OK, don't gasp - I am actually referring to the Battle for Little Round Top scenario of TSS. (The picture shows the starting troops.)
Used to play this a lot on a "school night" (meaning an evening where I had to go to work the next day) and always got done in time for a night's sleep. Very exciting.

Battle Cry, Memoir and this one all play pretty quickly. Not being a huge fan of the other 2, I think this one is far superior.

This is an excellent game.
The first play probably took me more than 3 hours (but less than 4). But once you understand the sequence of play, 3 hours is very reasonable.

The scenarios play in less than three hours. (Maybe 2 after a little practice).
This game is easy to learn and really captures the spirit of the war.

Okay, well I'll add this one. Pretty much the best in terms of short, yet meaty, wargames.

I get to be the first to add TA to this list. This game on Operation Market-Garden can easily be finished in two hours or less.

"Clash for a Continent" bears a slight resemblance to "Battle Cry" and "Memoir '44," but apart from the physical similarities, the command and combat systems are different (the game is not card-driven).
Very easy to learn with high replay value, quite evocative of the period it presents. Indians slip through the woods, Leaders plunge in or rally wavering units, Grenadiers stand tough, Militia is, well, militia, and Dragoons have good mobility with which to flee the field. It's just right.

With this game here, then you can even play out just one of either the "Western Front" OR the "Eastern Front" Campaigns, if you can't sit down for the enitirety of it all. There's even the "Patton's Fantasy" BATTLE of 'Red Star/White Star", while at least give this the chance to show its excellent premise where EACH "player" will 'control' BOTH an "Attacker" AND "Defender" for this! Check out its GAME "entry" HERE, for that "Western Front" VARIANT that should've been an integral 'part' of THIS, from the [i]"get go".

Easily my favorite of the quick, easy to learn hex-and-counter variety. Low counter density, clear rules with advanced components that can be left out for streamlining and quick start. Nice map and counters.

Don't know how short you mean, but scenarios in 2 or 3 hours. Variety, offering 1944 or 1940 battles, or a campaign game ( though much longer ). One of the best Quads.

Hellas takes ~45 min, and so qualifies as short for a war-themed game. It's very light, and many folks may not feel that it really qualifies as a "war game."

War of 1812 uses Columbia's famous block system. It has solid history, lots of dice, and it plays in about 1.5 hrs. It's at the light end of the spectrum. Like many of Columbia's games, this game evokes the spirit of the war at a high level using a simple rule set.
