Welcome to my 7th annual Secret Santa List. For those of you who are new to the list:

I run this list as a central location to let your Secret Santa know when your (hopefully much appreciated) gift has arrived.

Use this list to record what your Secret Santa sent you and remember to include any comments such as thanks that you want to give your Secret Santa. When you post on this list, you may want to make a note on your profile with a link to your entry so your Secret Santa can easily locate your confirmation of delivery and your reaction. That way your Secret Santa can look to see if you received your gift and you can post any comments you may have about the gift here and you can reply without the identity of your Secret Santa ever having to be released!

Please only make an entry when you actually receive the present! This assists those of us who read the list regularly as recipients are adding their gifts in a chronological order. No placeholder entries, please.

I find it very handy to put a link on your profile page so your Secret Santa knows where you have posted the feedback so s/he doesn't have to sort through 2000 entries to find yours quickly.

To see all previous years' editions of this list and to give the new Secret Santa participants an idea of how this works, look at these links:

"2011 List"

"2010 List"

"2009 List"

"2008 List"

"2007 List"

"2006 List"

Further helpful hints:

IMPORTANT - When you get your gift(s), take the time to "Add Item" to this GeekList rather than place a comment at the bottom of the list. This helps the statisticians out there.

A good example of how to make an entry containing multiple gifts is located at: this entry.

Making an actual entry will also make it easier for your Secret Santa to locate your Item.

If you would like to taunt your "target" while maintaining your secret identity, you can do so using the Santa logon. Just log yourself off and close any BGG windows (if you don't you take the chance of being discovered if the new username doesn't take) and log on using this info:

Username: santa
Password: password

I hope you have a terrific holiday season and enjoy the list!

Even before I could react to the message of my Santa we received our package. The game was nicely wrapped, so no clue to what game it would be. After a new message from Santa in which we were told we could open it our resolve to keep it wrapped lasted for about 10 seconds.

As I already put in my profile:

Thank you for this great game!!

Our son will absolutely love this game.

Shut the front door Santa! My Santas have been generous the last two years with Puerto Rico and San Juan, then Railways of the World. This year's Santa was no slouch indeed.

Santa sent me a note a few days ago, saying the games should be here before Thanksgiving, and I thought that was pretty cool.

Then, just yesterday morning, I found a huge box from Noble Knight Games on my front porch after running some errands.

I thought it must be from SS.

Little did I know the awesomeness it would contain.

Santa itched a SERIOUS scratch I had with dungeon-crawling. Just in the last year, I've really gotten into Ameritrash. When FFG released the second edition, it went right on the wishlist, and now it's in my possession.

FURTHERMORE, Santa sent:
Cyclades

!!!11!!!
I thought this game was OOP, meaning I wouldn't get for awhile, if ever. Seriously, Santa, you looked at my wishlist, snatched two things I wanted VERY much, and you just made my Thanksgiving that much better.

I hope my target enjoys the games I sent them as much as I will enjoy these (and from the looks of my target's entry...they will..hehehe)

Thanks Santa!

My secret santa is awesome!

I got one of the awesomest secret santas!!!!!

I know it's terrible grammar, but "awesome" is simply not enough to describe how generous & thoughtful my secret santa is!

This is my first year joining the BGG Secret Santa cult, and I'm in awe! I'm still recovering from the shock when I saw these many amazing gifts from my secret santa!!

A big THANK YOU to my dear secret santa ~ I am really, really, really grateful for all you have put into these amazing gifts. And I sincerely hope you will also receive just as much awesomeness from YOUR secret santa, if not more!

P.S. Thank you for giving me permission to open the gifts early! laugh

I take the Metro train to work, and thanks to weekend track maintenance, I was not happy about needing to work on a Sunday. But yesterday I checked my Geek mail and learned that a package was delivered to my work on Friday, which I somehow missed. Sunday couldn't come soon enough!

Imagine my delight when I opened the package and learned that I could take command of the railways!

Steam was a new edition to my wish list, replacing Railways of the World and taking the number one spot. With the expansion (not on my wish list and a delight to receive), it's the perfect addition to my collection.

My wife and I love the two player variant of Brass. Now we can play the two player expansion of Steam while my gaming group and I battle for dominance on the bigger maps.

Martin Wallace and Uwe Rosenberg battle for my gaming heart. I can't wait to see how Steam moves the scales.

Thanks, Santa! You made my day. And I love that you included a luck spinner. I expect many arguments to be resolved with it.

Got the box on Friday and could not resist opening it right away. Heck one side was labeled "open this end". I'm not about to let down a box.

Both are games that I've played before and really enjoy. More importantly both games that I think will be a hit at my weekly game group.

I've got a long history of playing the heck out of Secret Santa gifts and I think this will be another great batch. Thanks Santa!

I apologize to my secret santa for taking this long to report the receipt of my package.

It was excellent timing. It was one of those Fridays where, it was like, "when am I getting to the weekend".

I am pulling into my driveway and I see this large package and I shouted with exhilaration, "Its Secret Santa Time!!"

Anyway, I got implicit directions, not to open, so I convinced my wife to put up our X-Mass tree and the box is the first and currently only box keeping the tree company.

Thank you so much Secret Santa! and Merry Christmas!

UPDATE:
I cracked open my SS gifts on XMAS morning after losing several stare downs over the past several months and my reaction (to steal a line from Darth Maul from Lego Star Wars)

Awesome! AWESOME! AWESOME!

To my gleeful surprise, the first game was Ghost Stories.

Also, to my ever-increasing delight:

Plus!

I'm a big Dixit fan so was extremely pleased to see this as well - especially I didn't have this on my wishlist!

Last, but certainly not least to catch me up on the latest Dominion:

I can't express how blessed we are to receive such generous gifts from our SS. One day, I look forward to spoiling a gamer above and beyond like I was this such.

Thank you so much!!!

This is my first BGG Secret Santa and I gotta say: It's been a lot of fun and my Santa is awesome! Silent and fast: Ninja Claus. A few days ago, this came in. I knew it had to be my Secret Santa gift as it was from Amazon and I hadn't ordered anything from Amazon recently. I didn't receive any instructions on whether to open it or not and I knew I wouldn't be able to wait so I went ahead and opened it. Then the following day, I received another package. Now, I had not expected to get a second gift and I had ordered something from ebay, so I thought this was it. TO MY SURPRISE!

Zombicide

Holy crap! I'm a huge fan of zombies and of co-op games, so good job Santa! Thank you, Santa!

Santa has been very quiet until today, though I love watching this geeklist seeing all the well earned goodies coming in at various addresses.

I was about to leave for doing Santa and other thingies, but somebody rang at the door. I wasn't expecting anything at all. It could be the kids from the neighborhood being naughty again, but shouldn't they be in school now? Or is it today a holiday I forgot?

I saw a man, a courier and his white van, I then didn't know it was one of Santa's elves. He was well in disguise!
I noticed the package was from a webshop I never heard of before, www.brettspieleinsel.de. Then I remembered that I won something in the Irongames contest, so I then was sure it was the Peloponnes goodies I won in the PAX contest. (Thank you Bernd for that!)

But no, I was all wrong again. Upon opening the box I noticed a note from BGG Secret Santa. He told me I was a very good boy this year. He asked me not to open it until Christmas. That is a long time!

Thank you very much for the great surprise Secret Santa! You made my day!

Update 26 November

Santa asked me friendly to confirm whether his elves did a good job, so I had to obey Santa and unpack the game. This is what I found:

I think Santa did a good job studying my preferences, a new game designed by Xavier Georges: Ginkgopolis. Thank you Santa!!!

Santa gave me the following homework in his message:
Quote:
Did they sent the right present?
Are all components in the box?
Is the rulebook weel written?
Is your game playable?

As I am currently between jobs, I can find this out for our beloved Santa.

Update 27 November

I played the game today solo. And actually it is a first time I finished a solitaire game, usually playing solo cannot really bother me. But hey! Enter Ginkgopolis. Awesome game, really fun. I am looking forward to playing it with more as I am sure I then will enjoy it even more!

I played against Hal, I won 51-37. There was one rule not really clear to me. I found help on this awesome forum here.

Awesome game!

Update 30 november
Yesterday evening I played my gift again solo. And this time I followed the rules better than my first play two days earlier.

The game halfway.

At the end of the game, Hall, my virtual opponent, proved to be superior. I lost 42-49. Still, it is great to play.

So Saturday afternoon I was invited over for some gaming at Shire Games and whilst there I was presented with these two fine looking parcels. Even though the message on them gave me express permission to "rip open the parcels and enjoy the games" I exercised an inordinate (for me anyway!!) amount of self control and kept them wrapped. When I got home I excitedly showed my wife my parcels - and more to the point Santa's permission to open them early, but it cut no slack with her and she was insistent they remained wrapped. soblue

But she works on Sundays..... devil
So I opened them both!!

Thanks very much Santa!!

I take back what I said about the Gandalf look in that photo you sent me. I was just kiddin' witcha, honest....

Busy, busy weekend. Saturday, I'm running around like crazy, trying to get my wife out the door to a Girl Scout event, get my middle daughter ready for an outing with a friend, and get myself packed for an overnight trip to Madison for a birthday party for John Kovalic (yes, I just named dropped. Sue me, he's a good friend.) Trying to get out of the back door, and the front doorbell rings. Rasm-frasm who's at the door...ah. Fed Ex. Must be another Tupperware delivery for my wife. Get the box...awful heavy for Tupperware. Hmm. Shipping label from Cool Stuff Inc...I didn't order any...

SECRET SANTA!!!

So I grabbed a knife and ripped into the box (since I had received no instructions as to NOT open it.) Inside I found (amongst all of the packing peanuts) a copy of Spartacus: A Game of Blood and Treachery. Underneath that, I found:

Android: Netrunner

TOO COOL! I grabbed the boxes, and jumped into my car and drove up to Madison, had a great party with some old friends, and never had a chance to look at either of them the entire weekend.

But, it being a slow work week, I brought the rule books with me today, to read through, and we're planning on getting Spartacus on the table tonight.

Thanks again, Santa! What an awesome start to the Christmas holiday!!!

My Santa was awesome this year. Well, actually not.

Santa was drunk as a skunk in the back of the sleigh while Mrs. Claus was stuck doing all the work. She taunted, she emailed tracking updates, she fed the reindeer (and dealt with some gastrointestinal distress on the art of Donner... yuck), she baked the cookies, she cooked the bakies. She even went out of here way to learn about and get gifts for my wife and two sons. She even found time to scold me for falling back into more lurking on BGG rather than contributing. And Mrs. Claus also gave me a game to figure out her real identity. Super fun, and I learned that you can sort games by last month's plays and see who's been playing (yes, Mrs. Claus, I sorted through the 110 games of Blood Bowl: Team Manager to figure you out). All this and my gift got here on Friday!

I have done 4 Secret Santas on BGG so far, and while I have ranged from the silent santa to the ultra-generous, this year's was the highlight. Looking into my family and picking gifts for them as well was above and beyond, and is one of the reasons I love the BGG community. My Santa has been really adding a lot to the BGG community as a whole, and I will let you know who she is if she tells me its okay.

Merry Christmas, all!

EDIT: All the gifts for the family arrived on Black Friday, and as Mrs. Claus had kind of insisted we open them, I totally did! We got a great load of wonderful presents!

Beyond Mice and Mystics (my number one on the wishlist, we got:

Cthulhu Dice for my wife (who happens to really love Arkham Horror)

Forbidden Island for my 8 year old son (who loves cooperative games and games he can teach)

Pirate Plank for my 5 year old son (who is crazy about Legos)

And, as is that wasn't enough, Mrs. Claus got each of the boys a superhero puzzle and a chocolate bar! What a wonderful gift. We've already played Cthulu Dice 4 times, Pirate Plank 5 times, Forbidden Island 5 times, and will be trying Mice and Mystics later today. I guess Santa really hit the mark!

I have had a very silent Santa Claus for my first ever Santa Exchange. Last week I had a Royal Mail delivery note for a recorded delivery package. Today was the first opportunity to collect the package.

My first reaction on seeing it was "Wow! Big!". My second was "Wow! Heavy!"

I'm fairly certain I know what's in this...but do I open it??

Vote Yes or No

EDIT: Took the plunge and got the wife to open it up!

Inside was Tales of the Arabian Night! :-D

Bifford is a very happy bunny right now! :-)

Thank you so much once more to my Santa! ;-)

UPDATE 06/12/12:

So while I have played TotAN before, my own personal shiny copy had not seen the table...until last night!

Four of us played in a mammoth four hour game from 8pm to just past midnight. The report, as written by the hostess, Kaye, follows:

"Tales of the Arabian Nights was played at mine with Milly, Neil and Biff very nearly until the early hours of the morn!

Various nasty things such as being wounded happened early on, Neil fell in love twice but sold/left his loves to go adventuring....when rescuing a caravan from bandits he was offered the beautiful merchants daughter as a prize and bowed to the inevitable and got married. Due to trying to steal everything he could he soon ended up in prison at the mercy of the jailers.

Milly befriended efreets and was shown a wondrous land but was promptly kicked out by a more powerful efreet. She then tried to court powerful princes but was rebuffed and after being pursued by a mob of villagers to find out where she had found some valuable trees she managed to end up in Bagdad with a winning combination.

Biff was seeking treasure but didn't manage to find any and he became my master for a brief period. He was thrown in prison for abducting a destitute sage and spent a while trying to talk his way out of it.

I on the other hand kept trying to use my seduction skill to no avail before then robbing everything I could lay my hands on. I finally was pursued by an evil witch whose lover I had killed...when she caught up with me we fought before we became friends, in doing so the evil witch gave me wealth which gave me a winning combination and she also transported me to Bagdad to tie with Milly at the end!"

So thank you once more to Santa for the awesome gift. This is the first of many plays I hope.

Seasons greetings to all!

Bifford

When green is all there is to be, it could make you wonder why. But why wonder? I'm green, and it'll do fine: it's beautiful, and I think it's what I want to be.

Returned from BGG CON yesterday to discover a box package from Funagain had arrived.

Crap! I thought I cancelled those Essen pre-orders...

...wait, I didn't order these games...

The jolly one delivered!

Hive: The Ladybug - Yay! I've been hoping for this nice little expansion for a couple of years!

Martian Dice - Yay again!! This will be a great game to play with the youth groups!

Mercurius - Biggest YAY happy dance!! I discovered this game during my pre CON, Essen research, and it was one of the games I didn't get a chance to try in Dallas. Thank you, Santa! You've made this frog very happy!

Got into work today, and found I had a package waiting for me. I opened it up and couldn't be more happy. Thanks Santa! I actually just played Eclipse for the first time last week, so I'm excited to own it and get it to the table again.

And in addition to Eclipse, I got two expansions!

Catacombs: Horde of Vermin

It will be interesting to try this out. I have to admit catacombs doesn't get a lot of play time, but I've recently started playing with a new group, so this is a great excuse to bring it out again and try it some more.

and

Cosmic Encounter: Cosmic Conflict

Cosmic encounter is on of my top games, so I'm really excited to try it with the expansion. It looks like it should add some interesting scenarios. And on top of that, the extra player will be nice. I often get 6 people at game nights, and it is hard to find a game that accommodates everyone, and isn't excessively long.

Once again, thanks santa, I can't wait to get playing.

A parcel arrived at 7am via Royal Mail. (Yes. Royal Mail can get their collective finger out once in a while.)

Inside the parcel wasn't a large quantity of Fantasy Flight X-Wing Expansions but two wrapped gifts and a card. My thanks to BoardGameGuru for the seasonal touch.

On Christmas morning, I unwrapped the two parcels:

the first was

and the second was

Dixit 3 was on my wishlist, but Snowdonia was a complete surprise. I saw it at Essen, but did not get to demo it. I look forward to trying Snowdonia out at some point.
Thank you for the games and best wishes of the holiday season to everyone, but especially to my Secret Santa.

My secret Santa vastly exceeded my expectations with a huge box (and the promise of another smaller one on the way containing Christmas goodies)!

First out of the box was a shiny new copy of Seasons, followed by

Next was a copy of

And buried down at the bottom was

All in all it was an amazing box that knocked four games off my wishlist. I've always wanted to try a TTR game and I can't wait to give these other games a try as well. Thanks Santa!

My Santa has been taunting me via Geekmail for a few weeks now and has (reportedly) placed a hidden message or clue within his Geekmails. I've yet to decipher this, but he did ask me to post here, so I assumed that the mysterious package that showed up on my doorstep this past weekend was OK to open.

In addition to the TIE Advanced I used for this entry, this included all of the first-wave single-ship boosters for the X-wing miniatures game as well as the extra dice pack:

Star Wars: X-Wing Miniatures Game – Y-Wing Expansion Pack

Star Wars: X-Wing Miniatures Game – X-Wing Expansion Pack

Star Wars: X-Wing Miniatures Game – TIE Fighter Expansion Pack

So... Thanks Santa! I already had two of the starter set so this gives me enough to work with to build some more interesting squads for both Rebels and Imperials.

sent out an awesome package, which I opened before realizing it was sleigh goods. Inside was not only this box of hot fireman, but The Resistance.

Sweet, right?
