Welcome to my 7th annual Secret Santa List. For those of you who are new to the list:

I run this list as a central location to let your Secret Santa know when your (hopefully much appreciated) gift has arrived.

Use this list to record what your Secret Santa sent you and remember to include any comments such as thanks that you want to give your Secret Santa. When you post on this list, you may want to make a note on your profile with a link to your entry so your Secret Santa can easily locate your confirmation of delivery and your reaction. That way your Secret Santa can look to see if you received your gift and you can post any comments you may have about the gift here and you can reply without the identity of your Secret Santa ever having to be released!

Please only make an entry when you actually receive the present! This assists those of us who read the list regularly as recipients are adding their gifts in a chronological order. No placeholder entries, please.

I find it very handy to put a link on your profile page so your Secret Santa knows where you have posted the feedback so s/he doesn't have to sort through 2000 entries to find yours quickly.

To see all previous years' editions of this list and to give the new Secret Santa participants an idea of how this works, look at these links:

"2011 List"

"2010 List"

"2009 List"

"2008 List"

"2007 List"

"2006 List"

Further helpful hints:

IMPORTANT - When you get your gift(s), take the time to "Add Item" to this GeekList rather than place a comment at the bottom of the list. This helps the statisticians out there.

A good example of how to make an entry containing multiple gifts is located at: this entry.

Making an actual entry will also make it easier for your Secret Santa to locate your Item.

If you would like to taunt your "target" while maintaining your secret identity, you can do so using the Santa logon. Just log yourself off and close any BGG windows (if you don't you take the chance of being discovered if the new username doesn't take) and log on using this info:

Username: santa
Password: password

I hope you have a terrific holiday season and enjoy the list!

Woo-Hoo! Thank you, Santa!

I've been wanting to get this one for quite a while now. My wife is the purest definition of 'non-gamer' but she used to read the choose your own adventure books and I think I might be able to tempt her into a game or 10 of this one.

I also got:

Ticket to Ride Map Collection: Volume 1 – Team Asia & Legendary Asia

completing my Ticket to Ride collection which is currently the only game my wife will play.

Thank again, Santa! cool

Yay, the first of my packages arrived!

Now, I'm in four (!) Secret Santa exchanges this year, so I may be in this list a bit... But let's get things started, shall we? This one is from my Alternative Santa, that being an exchange where multiple games are involved (one big, one small, at the minimum). So what did my Alternative Santa give me?

YINSH!

Biblios!

Roll Through the Ages: The Bronze Age!

I've only played the last one so far... And I was sleep-deprived and managed to fumble and damage one of the cards in Biblios as soon as I took the plastic off modest but I've got a replacement on the way already.

Thanks, Alternative Santa!

i returned from vacation to see a package waiting for me. santa has come quite early this year!

i opened the box and found this game. nice! i got the base game from last years bgg secret santa, so if wizkids keeps putting out expansions maybe this will become an annual event.

the box was quite big though, so i figured there must be something else.

War of the Ring: Lords of Middle-earth

another expansion for a game i love! in fact, this is my #1 game.

but it turns out there was more.
Star Wars: X-Wing Miniatures Game

i definitely wanted to try this game out, so this is a pretty good start.

except... it turns out my santa is much too generous.
Star Wars: X-Wing Miniatures Game – TIE Advanced Expansion Pack

Star Wars: X-Wing Miniatures Game – Y-Wing Expansion Pack

Star Wars: X-Wing Miniatures Game – X-Wing Expansion Pack

wow! what a collection of gifts! many thanks to my secret santa!

Received the box and waiting until Christmas morning to open it.
Thank you Secret Santa! I can't wait to play my new game.

Oh hot damn, I just couldn't wait so I opened it.

I think Santa might know my naughty side just a little too well...

I can now only assume that Secret Santa has been replaced with his evil twin Secret Satan.

Got it in the mail this weekend and just had this chance to post...

Mage Knight Board Game

I always tell my Secret Santa that my wishlist is a guide and that they should feel free to send me anything they think would be cool.

This one is damn cool.

Thanks Secret Satan Santa!

Secret Santa just sent me a little teaser...

Around the busy holidays, it's crucial to have a little quick-playing game, especially for the kids, so this was a perfect selection from Secret Santa!

I also just received an email indicating that SS would be loading up the sleigh soon and that I should anticipate his arrival again soon...I can't wait.

Thanks Santa!

Santa arrived early in Portugal this year!

I have no ideia of what's inside but it's heavy (3kg)! I won't open it unless Santa confirms that is wrapped in paper.

I don't have yet my Christmas Tree but I already put the package where it will be, marking the spot!

Thanks so much Santa for everything!

I'll update my post with more pictures when I open it!

UPDATE WITH HAUL!

Virgin Queen and also a game for the girls! Very very niiiiiiiiiice! Couldn't ask for more! Everyone got thrilled!

As you can see in the image above on the day right before Christmas I've received a padded envelope, from New Zealand (a great beach landscape) the land of my Secret Santa, with a written Card and also 4 packages well wrapped for all the family!

I've managed to keep everyone waiting until the Christmas day to open it and here are the photos of other things I've received from my Secret Santa.

For the girls 2 lovely Christmas Tree decorations

And also for my Wife some New Zealand Chocolate and a Calendar with landscapes that allow me to travel through NZ.

I wish I could express in person the gratitude I feel for all your generosity! Please accept our best wishes for you and all your beloved ones.

Obrigado!!

Thank you very much!

As you can read, I checked out Walnut Grove from the bgg.con library but didn't manage to play it; at last year's I finally managed to play once. I'm looking forward to playing it with my group, and to trying Hawaii, I like the location. http://jerusalemstrategygames.wordpress.com

Alright, so it's here. First off, THANK YOU SANTA! WOOHOO!

We're in 3 secret santas, although we have not heard from the Wargamer nor the local one, so we're going on the assumption that this is from our BGG SS (he/she/elf contacted us via the Secret Santa, so that's probably a safe assumption).ninja

We are waiting until Christmas, even though we got permission to open early.

Here are the reasons and the "Tale of the Tape":

- We just got into the hobby in September with 6 games. The pic above is now our collection, minus our huge Heroscape collection. Needless to say, we have plenty of unplayed games to last between now and Christmas

- The Washington's War is used only for scale.
- It was shipped from TimeWellSpent Games. We know the owner, Dave, as it's our FLGS. He's a really great guy, but he doesn't gift wrap, so we can't open the box.
- The hint given was to the effect that we'll "need a long handled shovel" when the game arrives.
- Is very...loud when gently shaken. Sounds like a plethora (Jeffe) of items in there.
- Has a scent of cardboard, along with a hint of Kirkland's brand snack mix (which was in Dave's office last week when we went by there). Underneath that, is a just a faint reminder of mushrooms. Take that as you will

You all now know all that we know. So...what is it?

eta: Better uploaded the pics.

eta2: YAY!!! Opening up our gifts, we opened our BGG SS gift and it was Dungeon Petz! It is really high on our wanted list, so this was awesome! Thank you so much Santa!

PS. How ironic that our secret santa, whom could have been from anywhere on the planet, ends up being just down the road in Colorado Springs?laugh

My Secret Santa was very nice to me! He bought me one of my favorite games, In the Year of the Dragon, for me that I wanted to add to my collection. On top of that he bought me this:

Call of Cthulhu (6th Edition)

I am very fortunate!

Santa messaged me directly and we have been talking ever since. I hope we become good BGG buddies.

Heh, I'm behind the 8-ball a little this year, such as it is, when I come on to BGG and find four messages from Santa desperatly making sure his care package was delivered saftly.

I got the package last week, but have been so hectic this is my first chance to do anything about it.

This year I recieved the power of Innovation, and

Stone Age; Style is the goal,

(which I had bought just the week before, but as I was away from the computer, hadn't updated my Wishlist yet )

Cheers!

ooooh.... After some good quality, koskenkorva-befuddled, taunting, my secret santa package was delivered to my door this morning!

Fortunately, I was home from work this morning keeping an eye on my little girl who'd been to the vets for surgery yesterday. She can been seen above along with her Ikea fox as a reference for the box size ;-)

Now, I'm under strict orders to wait until after I've finished my Finnish Xmas dinner on the 24th before I can open it, and I don't know whether it's gift wrapped, so I'll have to wait until my wife gets home later to post any more update pics!

Thanks Santa!!!

(Who wants to start the speculation on the box contents?)

Edit:

My wife had opened the package, declared there to be TWO games present and that they look like "man games" and whisked them away to be wrapped... Exciting

Edit 2a:

And now I get a phone call from my wife saying that a parcel has arrived for me from Finland! The Korvatunturi workshop appears to be working overtime wow

This is what I found in the package:

And, I was given permission by a higher power (;-)) to open this package! And wow! Look what I found inside!

That's a lot of Finnish chocolate, lakrits and salmiakki plus a Santa made variant of Biblios! Bonus game-tastic! And if that wasn't enough, there's also some treats for Poppy the dog!

Kiitos Paljon Joulupukki!!

And with Xmas day comes the unwrapping, and what do we find but:

Small World
&
Spartacus: A Game of Blood & Treachery

Unexpected brilliance!!!!!

OK, so my Secret Santa contacted me last week informing me that he was sending me Russian Monopoly. I posted a gulp on one of the Secret Santa threads, which my stalking Santa saw. Santa put me on a little guilt trip for that but informed me that the elves made a mistake and he would send a couple of other packages to make up for it, with the third coming from Santa's home country. So I waited and waited for an entire week, not hearing from Santa and not seeing anything in the mailbox or on my front porch. By Tuesday and Wednesday, I was peeking outside every couple of hours to see if a package had arrived yet. But nothing.

By Wednesday evening, I had given up for a couple days, figuring that nothing would be delivered on Thanksgiving, so I would have to resume my anxious anticipation on Friday. I got up Thursday morning and hopped onto BGG to see if I had any new messages from my cousin who I was planning on gaming with that evening, and was surprised to see a message from Santa! Santa said that he noticed my first present had arrived, and he was really excited for me to open it. What??? It's Thanksgiving - no postal service! Nothing arrived Wednesday. How could my gift have arrived without me knowing? I was starting to worry that maybe I had made a mistake with my address or something. But I decided to peek outside just to make sure. And sure enough, there was a brown FedEx package with my name on it sitting on the front porch!

What a surprise! The box was square, definitely not shaped like Russian Monopoly, so that was a great sign! One corner was somewhat bashed in, so I was a little worried about the contents inside. I shook it, and couldn't make out much from the muffled sound (oh yeah, packing peanuts). I was considering setting aside everything until Christmas, but Santa really wanted me to open it and I couldn't let him down.

Despite the damage to the shipping box, the wrapped gift inside looked unharmed. And there was a greeting card attached. What did it say?

An expansion for a game I don't have... or do I? And advice not to do anything rash that I might regret. What might that be suggesting? Is Santa hinting at what the next package might contain, or is he hinting that if I'm naughty I might end up with something like Russian Monopoly after all instead of the base game for this expansion? And what game does this even expand? It seems like half of my wishlist is expansions, but only a few are for games that I don't own yet. So I unwrap the gift and find...

Yes! Fresco has been high on my list for a while now, and it was basically a tossup between that and Agricola as to which game would be #1 on my wishlist. I can't do a whole lot with an expansion and no base game, so I'm crossing my fingers hoping that Santa isn't naughty and ends up giving me the base game as well. Of course, it would also be really funny and I'd probably deserve it if he left me high and dry.

I'll have to wait a few more days for package #2. And Santa says that package #3 will be a "national game" that he is having a hard time finding, so it will probably not arrive until after the holidays. I wonder what it could be?

11/23/12

So I got another message from Santa this afternoon informing me that the second, much larger package was on my front porch. I checked outside and saw nothing. I kept checking for a few hours before giving up, thinking that it might be a naughty, fake Santa taunting me. Santa sent me another message asking if I got the gift, so I did a little investigating and noticed a package on my neighbor's front porch. Their address is just one digit different than mine, so I decided to sneak up to their doorstep and make sure there wasn't a mistake. Sure enough, the FedEx man delivered my package to them! I hope nobody saw me suspiciously swiping a large package from my neighbor's front porch...

The package was twice as tall as yesterday's. And Santa sent his elves to do a little shopping at CoolStuffInc both times. Did Santa follow up his first package with Fresco? I opened it up and saw...

Santa took the effort to read my entire profile/Letter to Santa and made some suggestions of a few co-ops that my parents might enjoy. Forbidden Island was not originally on my wishlist, but jumped up there after Santa's recommendations.

And underneath Forbidden Island, I saw...

Sure enough, Santa only left me hanging for a day and sent me Fresco.

I figured two full games in that package and one large expansion from the first package was more than enough, and definitely more than I deserved. The box felt empty, but I figured it would probably be a good idea to run my hand through the packing peanuts just to double check. Good thing I did, because my hand brushed across something about the size of a deck of playing cards...

Hurray! The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game – The Battle of Lake-town - the only Lord of the Rings LCG adventure pack that I did not yet own.

What a generous Secret Santa! I ended up with Fresco, Fresco: Expansion Modules 4, 5 and 6, Forbidden Island, and The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game – The Battle of Lake-town, and there is still the one package left that will arrive some time next month or so.

Thank you, thank you, thank you Santa! And Happy Holidays everyone!

Update

So I hear a knock on the door today and answer it expecting something I ordered for the family. It is the postal carrier holding a medium sized envelope and needs me to sign for it. I figured it must be international, but thought it was something from Germany. I was surprised to see "Secret Santa" as the sender.

Wow, that was fast! Santa told me he went to every game store in the city to find the gift he was looking for - talk about commitment! He said it would take 2-3 weeks to get here. Well, it took less than a week and a half!

That sure is a lot of stamps! And Santa is from Brazil - quite a bit warmer than the North Pole! I checked the address on Google Maps, and Santa lives just a couple blocks from the beach in Florianopolis - "The Best Place to Live in Brazil" and "2009 Party Destination of the Year". I don't know if I was more excited to try and figure out who Santa was or what the gift was. I think I have a good guess or two!

So I opened the envelope to find...

Mafia - Santa says it is the Brazilian equivalent to BANG!. I'm looking forward to giving this a try since Bang! is one of my favorites. There was also a short letter inside the game box written in calligraphy. I love the personal touch.

Thanks again, Santa! You are the best!

This morning, I found a box waiting for me in the hallway. Inside, I discovered a note from my Secret Santa and a beautifully wrapped package.

I didn't receive any instructions from my Santa on whether I was allowed to open it or not. I considered asking him/her for permission first, but the shape of the package gave away its contents...

So then I said to myself that I might as well open it, since I already knew what I was going to find inside anyway whistle
I hope my Santa doesn't mind! modest

Inside, there was:

Evolution: The Origin of Species

its expansion Evolution: Time to Fly

and String Railway

Thank you so very much, Santa!

You made me very happy and I'm sure that these games will be played lots and lots of times!

Wow! My silent but awesome Secret santa came through in a great way!

I had been looking for games that are good with less than 4 players (ideally 2) and as such have already managed to scrounge up Battlelore, but this was very high on my wishlist!

Sadly it took longer for the game to reach me after is was delivered than it took to ship it from Amazon. (My local postman thinks it's a good idea to deliver packages at the shop across the street if a person isn't at home. Sadly this shop closes at about 6 which is, given the fact that I tend to be at work or commuting at that time, not ideal. )

Anyway, i finally got my package!

Even Ross Noble seems intrigued!

Thanks Secret Santa, I will try to get a game in later today!
So excited!laugh

I received a geek mail from my Secret Santa a day or two after the targets were assigned. Right before the Thanksgiving break, I received a package from the Amazon elfs. Inside were three wrapped packages. WoW! Thanks Secret Santa!

EDIT:
Merry Christmas! Thank you so much Secret Santa. Attached to the gifts were some gift tags with hints as to what was inside:

"To go on a train-ride, the reindeer lugged this one aaaalll the way from the North Pole"
Ticket to Ride Map Collection: Volume 2 – India & Switzerland

"For Wizards, this one was sent by Santa."
Castle Panic: The Wizard's Tower

"Don't take the title of this one literally. Enjoy, your Secret Santa."
Smash Up

Thanks a bunch Secret Santa. Looking forward to playing these with my family and game group!

Thank you Santa!

After our serious discussion this morning, considering cookies and all that, I feared for the worst.

What if I had wronged Santa, with my japes about the lack of cookies in our house, trying to see if he prefered salad.
I was a fool, a foolish fool.

For it was not 30 minutes after I had send him pictureproof of cookies in our house that the doorbell rang.

Could it be?

YEAH!

A rainsoaked package at my doorstep, what could it be...

ZOMG! It's from Santa!

AWESOME! A few acres of snow! That has been on my whislist forever, love the game, I am over the moon with this one!

And what is this? Something extra?
Brawling Barons

Amazing! I never heard of this game, but after taking a look it looks like just the thing I like! Really, really cool. Thank you Santa!

I'm so happy. And a bit humbled by such generosity. Thank you Santa, and a merry Christmas to you and your family!
