Welcome to my 7th annual Secret Santa List. For those of you who are new to the list:

I run this list as a central location to let your Secret Santa know when your (hopefully much appreciated) gift has arrived.

Use this list to record what your Secret Santa sent you and remember to include any comments such as thanks that you want to give your Secret Santa. When you post on this list, you may want to make a note on your profile with a link to your entry so your Secret Santa can easily locate your confirmation of delivery and your reaction. That way your Secret Santa can look to see if you received your gift and you can post any comments you may have about the gift here and you can reply without the identity of your Secret Santa ever having to be released!

Please only make an entry when you actually receive the present! This assists those of us who read the list regularly as recipients are adding their gifts in a chronological order. No placeholder entries, please.

I find it very handy to put a link on your profile page so your Secret Santa knows where you have posted the feedback so s/he doesn't have to sort through 2000 entries to find yours quickly.

To see all previous years' editions of this list and to give the new Secret Santa participants an idea of how this works, look at these links:

"2011 List"

"2010 List"

"2009 List"

"2008 List"

"2007 List"

"2006 List"

Further helpful hints:

IMPORTANT - When you get your gift(s), take the time to "Add Item" to this GeekList rather than place a comment at the bottom of the list. This helps the statisticians out there.

A good example of how to make an entry containing multiple gifts is located at: this entry.

Making an actual entry will also make it easier for your Secret Santa to locate your Item.

If you would like to taunt your "target" while maintaining your secret identity, you can do so using the Santa logon. Just log yourself off and close any BGG windows (if you don't you take the chance of being discovered if the new username doesn't take) and log on using this info:

Username: santa
Password: password

I hope you have a terrific holiday season and enjoy the list!

Today, my doorbell rang and when I opened the door there was a package sitting right in front of me. Ooh, my secret santa gift has arrived! I tore into the box to find a nicely wrapped gift. I briefly thought about saving it until Christmas but quickly decided to open it, finding City of Horror with the Lawnmower promo card! Fantastic!! I am a big fan of a zombie/horror themed game, and I really enjoyed Mall of Horror when I played it. I am very excited to play this one, and I can't wait to play it over the holidays! Truthfully, this has been a very difficult year as my father passed away a month ago. The holidays will be difficult but the Secret santa exchange has been very enjoyable and is definately a bright spot this season. Thank you Secret Santa and have a very Merry Christmas!!

Thank you Santa for my Mice & Mystics game! You already know how grateful I am, but I wanted the whole Geek World to know as well!

Here's the scoop folks:

I did not put this on my wish list because I wanted to just buy it myself as I couldn't wait to get it. Well guess what? Everybody was sold out of it, or the price was way too high. So I decided to add it to my Wish List and get it after the holidays. (I was under the impression from prior conversations that my gift had already been purchased by my SS).

Lo and behold, my box arrived from Coolstuff Inc. which also included the bonus $5 gift certificate toward a future purchase. Ha ha ha.....my SS said, "You can open it if you want....I know it's a little early."

Are you kidding!?!? Wait until Christmas to see what game was wrapped up? I tore that paper off so fast my living room looked like Edward Scissorshands had just left!

I could NOT believe my eyes. It was Mice & Mystics, and I probably had just added it to my Wish List a few days prior.

Thank you, thank you, thank you SS. You are the BEST!

Santa was on point and sent me my gift early this year, despite me not responding to his messages in a timely fashion. Fortunately, Santa deduced what I enjoy about gaming, and sent me gifts hitting some of my favorite themes - space/scifi and H.P. Lovecraft.

Also, he sent me no coal, despite my lack of contact. *whew*

I was very excited to unwrap Core Worlds! I've been looking forward to this one since it's release last year. Santa also included an elder sign-marked dice bag, in order to add some non-Euclidian unpredictability to my random number generation:

An amazing amount of thanks to my Secret Santa this year! Excellent work, and Merry Christmas!

Promoplosion BANG:

Quarriors! Quaxos Promo Cards
Dixit: 2012 Asmodee Special Cards
Fleet: Wharfside Casino
Ascension: Chronicle of the Godslayer - The Rat King Promo

Totally unexpected gifts. I really need to play these asap. thumbsup

Entrance with a bang, impressive SSanta! Thank you very much

UPDATE:
Wednesday I also got a note about a package in the post office. This time it was more heavier box and since I hadn't ordered anything from the Bookdepository lately, I instantly knew it must have been Secret Santa.

What came from the box was Sid Meier's Civilization: The Board Game - excellent! I had previously actually managed to acquire the expansion to the Civ because the price was good at a time and I was confident I would pick the game itself up some day. But now Santa has taken care of that little "todo".

After unpacking I was amazed - didn't remember this game had SO many cards and chits.

Awesome gifts - Thank You Secret Santa!
I'm very much looking forward to playing Civ and all my other gifts too!

My Secret Santa was watching the reindeer employed by the USPS like a hawk because he/she alerted me that my package was waiting at home for me.

I opened the package and saw two nicely wrapped boxes. Two?!?! Woo-hoo!

The first box was Lords of Waterdeep, which I have not played but I've heard great things about. Thanks Secret Santa! But wait, there's more.

As a bonus, the second gift was a copy of Hemloch! Which was not on my wishlist, but my Secret Santa is super smart and saw that I preordered the newest games from Small Box Games (via Kickstarter) but did not have any of their previous games in my collection. That was a very unexpected bonus.

As an extra-special bonus, my Secret Santa also sent me some geek gold! Now I just need to figure out what I'm going to do with it...

Thanks Secret Santa!

This is what my Secret Santa sent me:

First of all I love the Christmas card, what a wonderful touch!! Santa reveals that (s)he lives in Russia

I think I know what the bigger square box may hold. However the smaller one...No idea. It rattles a lot inside, there may be dice and miscellaneous loose bits...

Santa told me it's not food (the Elves ate it up), so your guess is as good as mine. Santa also told me I could open them up now but I'd love to wait for Christmas morning Will I be strong enough?

...Of course I wasn't

BOTH Mice and Mystics and Winter greeted me with a big smile as I unwrapped the paper:

In any case my dear Russian Secret Santa, THANK YOU, THANK YOU and agian THANK YOU for a wonderful present

Spasibo bolshoi Santa!

Take care everyone and

664. Board Game: Mice and Mystics [Average Rating:7.61 Overall Rank:102]
Among the newer games that came out this year, I was very intrigued by Mice and Mystics. I mentioned to Secret Santa that our family's gaming tastes are changing as the kids grow older, and that it was harder to get a big group together. So I listed games accordingly, but was going to hold off on the purchase of this until the summer, when more people are home. But I was nervous about the theme, because of the more adult-like nature of our family. Would adults like it? Was it solely a children's game? Was it a one and done?

That question was answered when Santa delivered a brand-spanking new copy of Mice and Mystics to us this week. What, with dealing with details of a home move (In December? Seriously?), it was only yesterday afternoon that we opened the shipping box, and set up the game.

To say it was an immediate hit was an understatement. The kids loved it! I loved it! Our family enjoys thematic games, and this is just dripping with theme. We have Descent: Journeys in the Dark, but it rarely gets played because of time constraints. After we had finished two sessions, one of my older children said "Sell Descent. This scratches the same itch, with much less time." My youngest loved the bits, and the backstory. My son, a huge Redwall fan, was embarrassed a bit, but finally got into the gear collection element. I was impressed with the tight narrative and short downtime for a dungeon (tunnel?)-crawler. This is an impressive effort by a company I didn't know much about, reminding me of the time I bought Kingsburg from Elfenwerks. I see many of plays of this game over the break, and likely some serious expanding in the future. The only current problem is who has to sit out!

So, in a nutshell (get it?), Santa hit this one way out of the ball-park for us, almost to the parking lot. A great choice for us, and months earlier than I otherwise would have seen it. Thank you very much, Santa, from all of us:

Son: That's just cool!

Daughter: So cute!

Daughter: Thanks for bringing out the fun game, Dad!

Wife: Somebody just gave this to you? And you don't know who? (look of disbelief)

Yes, dear wife, it's true. Our Secret Santa is just one awesome person!

which said the following:

Quote:
Ho, ho, ho...

As Santa was checking his list, he found out that you made the Extra Nice list. This allows me to say "It is my pleasure to let you know that delivery of your Secret Santa Gift item(s) has been expedited." You should expect to see delivery in the next week or so.

However, it is possible that some of my elves were not on the Extra Nice list. Please disregard any shipping invoices, receipts or the such if they are included in your delivery that may reveal Santa's true identity.

Also, if you would be so kind as to post a link in your profile to the Thank You Santa page (if you choose to post there, otherwise a something on your profile), it would be most helpful. It is always comforting to see that the delivery elves have completed their task.

Have a very happy holiday!
Santa's little helper

Prior to this GM my S.O. had been giving me a hard time about not having a Secret Santa, but now the fact was undeniable; I have a Secret Santa! I was gluttonous with joy and anticipation. Then yesterday, after getting home from a long day of studying I found a little package on my door step. My S.O. insisted I waited until finals were over before I opened the package; however I insisted, stating that

would be upset. After many stern looks and rolling around on the floor a la 4-year-old tantrum style, my S.O. conceded and I opened the package. To my surprise, my Santa had gone off my Wishlist, selecting a game I had heard of but had never had the opportunity to play. I look forward to playing Times Square, I think it will make a perfect addition to my gaming arsenal!

THANK YOU SECRET SANTA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh and since I really like pictures of cats and boardgames, here is a picture of my new game with Bailey:

UPDATE!!! Santa had some issues with his sleigh this year, but managed to figure things out after a bit...

In addition to Times Square, I also got:
Lemonade Stand

Animal Upon Animal: Balancing Bridge

Burger Joint

Forbidden Island

WOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Now I just have to find time to play it!

I got a box from CoolStuff on 11/30. I checked the order number on the box to see if it was mine and it wasn't, so I was curious. I opened the package and as soon as I saw Infiltration, I knew it was from my SS. I think there may be another game in the bottom (the box is big enough) but I'm going to wait til xmas to fully explore. I'll post an update then.

So far, Thank you Santa!

Thank you my paleosanta! So generous and such thoughtful choices! We loved your note too!
My wife and I are so stoked to get into both of these games! Our collection has a severe Ameritrash-bias: it's about time the scales were tipped in the other direction. Surely the 'weight' of Caylus will help with this!
In any case, a great collection is a well-balanced collection, and you, Santa, have just made our day!

It was so much fun corresponding with you too! You are a Santa par excellence!

I received my games from Santa last week but I was on vacation at Disney World so I had to wait until now to post.

I received Flash Point: Fire Rescue.

Incan Gold

Power Grid: The First Sparks

& a Coolstuff Inc gift card that I do not know the denomination of yet.

Thank you anonymous Santa. I did not see your name anywhere, but I may have missed it.

My gift arrived at my parent's place around the 15th (I always ask packages to be sent there as our local post office has a bad rep for losing stuff).

My plan then was to leave my gift wrapped until the christmas party on the 25th, coincidentally, it lying at my parents' place also made this a lot easier. However, then I received this taunt from my Santa ...

Quote:
before I pushed your games off my sled, I tore off the shrink wrap from one or more of them and removed one or more components from the box(es) in question. Without that/those component(s), playing the afflicted game(s) will become a bit more... challenging. Like trying to play Carcassonne without the tiles or Ticket to Ride without the map

I'll be happy to send you the component(s) that I've taken hostage later on by ordinary mail.

So now my problem was ... I need to know what component is missing.
Hence, today I picked it up, and opened the outside box already. In it I found a very nicely wrapped gift and a coupon for boardgameshop.eu.

6 hours later I decided I might as well go with Santa's decision and I opened the gift wrapping also.

In it I found:

Blood Bowl Team Manager the Card Game - Awesome. In my thursday game group the miniature version is getting a revival (it's being played now almost weekly), hence it's also the perfect time to introduce the group to this brilliant card game version of the system.

Star Wars X Wing Miniature Game - Nr 1 item on my wishlist.

So it took until after the necessary Happy Dance laugh that I realised the games were still in foil... I seem to have let myself be tricked soblue

Oh well, since they're open anyway, I'll see if I can get them on the table this week in honour of my Santa.

Prettige Feestdagen!

UPDATE:

So my Santa had also been contacting my Geekbuddies to find someone who knows me IRL. Today then one of them showed up at the Outpost Gamecenter with a package for me. A pack of candy (Celebrations minis), a sweet handwritten christmas card (judging by the handwriting I'm pretty sure it's a Misses Claus), and extra dice for X Wing (definitely useful, the lack of a fourth die was the main comment both me and the other guy I tested the game with had)

She really put a lot of work into it. I appreciate it, thank you.

My secret Santa parcel arrived this weekend containing two board game items and three food items, all individually wrapped.

A well-crafted poem sent earlier in the week suggested I wait until Sinterklaas (5th December) before opening the gifts.

Evidence suggests my Santa is Dutch or possibly, unlikely, Spanish.

Comparing box size and my wishlist suggests the first game parcel contains

.

From the poem and shape of the second game item, my guess is an expansion for
Spoiler (click to reveal)

A big thanks to my Secret Santa. Very well played.

A gift from my Secret Santa arrived on Friday. I was at work but luckily for me my wife was at home ready to receive the package. From the information provided earlier I knew that the weight of the package was 5.1. Of what? I rushed home as soon as I could and found a huge box on my gaming table:

The weight was actually 5.1kg and I admit, even 5.1lb would have been impressive! I wanted to save all the excitement to Christmas, but my wife talked me into opening it. And what have I found? The box contained 4 nicely wrapped smaller packets:

Although I am tempted to check the contents just now, I am leaving the surprise to Christmas morning. And even my wife cannot change my mind on this. And to everyone reading this I promise to update this item with my findings some time after Christmas.

This is my first Secret Santa ever and I am fascinated with generosity of my Santa! Thank you very much. I know, I will be delighted with this gift even though I am not sure what it contains! A very Merry Christmas to my Secret Santa, to people who invented this exchange and who administer it and to all the good people of BGG!

Edit:

Well... I thought I have 4 presents from my generous BGG Secret Santa. However, once again I was wrong! The four boxes contained five items: a game and four expansions:

So I received: Dominion, Dominion: Prosperity, 7 Wonders: Cities, Power Grid: France/Italy and Power Grid: Benelux/Central Europe. I guessed the 7 Wonders expansion (however, I thought it was the Leaders) and Power grid additional board (however, I didn't measure the height of the package, so I didn't expect that the package contained two boards). Dominion and the expansion, to be fare, was a complete surprise for me.

I had pretty busy (gamewise) Christmas today, so I managed to only read the rules of Cities. But I expect to try all of them in the near future.

Thank you, Secret Santa! You are too good for me! Merry Christmas to you and to everyone here in BGG.
